The Cherokee lived in the southeastern United States, primarily in Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Kentucky and Tennessee. They had traditional family structures with men leading hunting, war, and diplomacy efforts, and women leading farming, property, and family matters. Today, traditions have evolved with women now able to become chiefs and men sometimes taking on farming roles. The Cherokee practiced agriculture, growing crops like corn, beans, squash, and sunflowers, and also gathered wild foods. They crafted items like pottery, baskets, and pipes.
