This document discusses machismo and violence against women. It defines machismo as "the attitude of the power of men over women" and identifies its forms as both physical and psychological. The causes of machismo are then listed as sexist education, religious teachings that discriminate against women, discriminatory laws, the division of labor, portrayal of women as objects in media, and male-centered education from schools and families. Violence against women is said to begin in childhood and the family, with at least one in third of women worldwide suffering domestic violence. November 25th is identified as the international day for non-violence against women.
