Paul and Bruce are friends who live across the street from each other. They decided to take their scooters to school with Bruce's little brother Max, who was starting his first day without his mother. While riding to school, Bruce and Paul helped Max safely cross streets and ignore a barking dog, arriving at school just in time with the help of a crossing guard. Max felt proud to be a big school boy after his friend Fred showed him to the right classroom.

2. Paul and Bruce are great friends. They do everything together.
Paul lives directly across the road from Bruce and his little brother Max.

3. Today is Max’s first day going to school without his Mum. He
is going to school with his big brother Bruce.

4. The boys were talking to each other. They decided to get
their scooters to ride to school.

5. They got their scooters out of the garage.

6. Max and Bruce went to the end of the drive. They met Paul
and walked to school.

7. Along the way to school they had to check for cars coming out of driveways.
Bruce and Paul remembered to keep Max safe.

8. Stop, look
and listen.
Get off your
scooter to walk
across the road.
Max was a bit scared of crossing the road but
Bruce helped him.

9. After they had crossed the road Max was talking to Bruce about how his
character looked on Mathletics.

10. Suddenly a dog barked loudly at them through a fence….
Woof,
woof.

11. ...but they ignored it because it couldn’t hurt them through the fence.

12. Max, Bruce and Paul crossed at the school crossing
into school just in time!
“It is safest to cross here, the Road Patrol helps you
cross,” said Paul.

13. When he got to school he didn't know which class to go in to.

14. Max saw his friend Fred and ran over to him. Fred showed him to class.

15. Good morning, Mr Walker
Good morning Max.

16. Max felt like a big school boy!
He knows how to keep safe on the way to school.
