The lymphatic system is part of the circulatory system and plays an important role in immunity. It is composed of a network of lymphatic vessels that carry lymph fluid away from tissues and toward the heart. The main functions of the lymphatic system are to remove excess fluid from tissues, transport white blood cells and antigens throughout the body, and provide immune responses in lymph nodes. Diseases that can affect the lymphatic system include lymphadenopathy, lymphedema, cancer, and lymphangitis.
