4. Hypothesis
 I think that the Pink Batts insulation will
keep most of the warmth in the container
because it is used to insulate houses.

5. Variables
 Independent variable- Type of insulation
-Pink Batts
-Tin Foil
- Sponge.
 Dependent variable – Temperature
 Controlled variable
-Type of container.
-Time taken between temperature measurements.
-Same type of thermometer.

6. Equipment
 4 ice Cream containers.
 200ml of boiling water per ice-cream container.
 200ml of cold water per ice-cream container.
 4 thermometers.
 1 stopwatch.
 Sponge (enough to cover ice-cream container)
 2 layers of tin foil (enough to cover ice-cream container)
 Pink Batts (enough to cover ice-cream container)
 PVA Glue

7. Procedure
 1. Drill a thermometer size hole in the top of all the
containers.
 3. Put the insulation on the top of the lid and around it.
 2. Fill all the containers with 200ml of hot water.
 5. Put the thermometer in the hole.
 6. Record temperature after every minute that passes.
 8.Then repeat with cold water.

11. Conclusion
 During my experiment I found out that
Pink Batts is the best form of insulation
because it kept in the most heat with
hot water and kept the cold water the
same temperature. It was interesting to
find that my control experiment with no
insulation was the second most effective
in keeping the cold water cool.

 This experiment helped me understand
why we do have insulation in our houses
especially during the cold winter in New
Zealand.
