ICREDIBLE
INSULATION!!!
Science Experiment
 By Matthew Jones
HYPOTHESIS:
• I think that ..black paper [or possibly
material] would be the best form of
  insulation because black [the colour]
absorbs energy I also believe it will
  work better because the other
materials are fabrics which are made
of thin threads of fabric that will have
small holes that might let the
  temperature escape more quicker. 2
AIM:

                        AIM:
To find the most efficient form of house insulation
so that people stop using electric heat pumps
which needs electricity that needs to be made
with fossil fuels which are a finite resource.
WHY INSULATE
               in the first place?
• Insulating your home will save warmth, electricity bill money
and would provide a healthier and more cosy nice indoor
family living area. The heat captured from the sun needs to be
stopped from escaping through walls, ceilings and floors.
Insulated houses are warmer than houses without insulation. So
damp ,yucky condensation is less likely to form in your home
so you are less likely to catch illness. In summer, insulation
will keep the heat out, making your home nice and cool.
Insulation will help provide a more even temperature all year-
round. Also you won’t need to buy big ,bulky, expensive heat
  pumps that uses electricity.

                                                        4
MATERIALS
1: (5) Thermometers.
2:(5) Different forms of Insulation.
[Below is the form of insulation I tested
Since I was in a group who tested sponge, pink
bats ,cotton wool and a wooly sock].
• Black paper.
3:(5) beakers [ with either boiling or cold water in it]
4:timer [to record the minutes.
The Experiment
1. I placed thermometer in a beaker.
2. I wrapped the beaker with black paper [my insulator].
3. I poured 200mls of hot water into beaker and
measured starting temperature with a thermometer.
4. I set a timer for a minute and when it went off I
measured temperature I repeated that for 15 minutes.
5: I did the exact same thing but with cold water
     from the fridge.

Application:
• Using insulation means you don’t need to
buy expensive heat pumps which uses
electricity and electricity in order to be
made burns fossil fuels which are finite
rescources and once they are gone they
  are gone for ever,ever,ever...

                                       9
CONCLUSION
• In the end the fluffy sock won as the best
insulator of hot water and the black paper
lost out of 5 insulators the exact opposite
  of my original hypothesis.
• But in cold water tin foil won as best
insulator which i’m not that suprised
because tin foil does not have holes.
