Lord Of The Flies Passage Analysis
Lord of the Flies Passage Commentary The passage beginning with "Piggy handed Ralph his
glasses...", which is written in the novel Lord of the Flies, portrays the progression of the novel's
story line. At first, the children are struggling to start a fire; they become desperate to light a fire for
warmth and safety. However, eventually by some miraculous way, the wood lights on fire, causing a
relieved tone in the children. Golding incorporates sensory image and repetition of an action to show
how the children are struggling. The author then uses symbolism and tone as the literary devices that
progress the story line into the final stage. The children eventually manage to light up a fire;
Golding uses visual imagery as well as a relieved tone in the children to demonstrate that. In this
excerpt from the novel Lord of the Flies, Golding uses many different types of literary devices to
show the progression of the children aiming to light a fire that could keep them safe and warm at
night, as well as maybe a way of getting rescued. When the children first attempt to light a fire,

The author uses visual imagery, as well as a relieved and uplifted tone to demonstrate to the
audience the final attempt at lighting a fire in which the children are able to succeed. Golding writes,
"Eric breathed on the wood till it glowed and sent out a little flame. A billow of white and yellow
smoke reeked up"(lines 9–11). In this quote, the author uses visual imagery to portray the children
succeeding in starting a fire. "Piggy took back his glasses and looked at the smoke with pleasure"
(lines 12–13). In this sentence from the excerpt, Piggy demonstrates a very relieved, uplifted and
positive mood after the children achieved what they were struggling with for a long

College Admissions Essay: The Figment Of A Father
The Figment of a Father I was indeed a victim of childhood ignorance. It was an invisible ailment, a
disease I did not realize I was suffering from until the facts of life finally cured me. People claim
that ignorance equates to bliss, and maybe that statement holds some truth, but my memories
disagree. I remember a little girl that believed in so much, until one day she reached a point where
she struggled in finding the trust to believe in anything at all. My father lived in a fairly small
apartment. Of course as a child small things always appear a little bit grander. I shared a bedroom
with my older brother; however, that term somewhat exaggerates its appearance since it included no
beds. Instead we slept upon two mattresses on the ground. A situation that to a little girl basically
means a slumber party. Responsibilities rarely existed at his apartment. He almost never compelled

Just like me, his apologies were empty. A place in my heart left hollow, ripped out by the poisonous
syllables that pounced out of his mouth. Everything changed that night. I truly thought I loved my
father, but I only loved a figment of him. I loved the fantasy created in my head. That night poisoned
every memory that included my father's presence. Or maybe that night cleansed the memories of my
ignorance? I suppose it depends on your perspective. That night I realized the meaning of a broken
home because something in me broke. I understand why my mom and brother shielded me from the
truth about my father, but I think their protection made the outcome worse. They let him deceive me
into loving him, into trusting him, into respecting him. Loving him blinded me. My brother and I
participated in all those fun things due to my father's irresponsible actions and the fact that he often
wound up too deep in a bottle to discipline us, not because of his cool parenting style. None of his
actions earned him the title of a

Compare and contrast the poet’s relationship with their...
When comparing and contrasting two poems one must remember that even though there can be
similarities between the two poems, they are however separate entities that express their own
thoughts. The primary similarity is that both poems of Heaney and Thomas reflect the in depth
relationship in which they share between their fathers whom they have held a constant respect and
hierarchy for; the difference is that Heaney has changed his role as he becomes the leading figure
and Thomas is trying to salvage his father's life.
When first glancing at Seamus Heaney's "Follower," the title connotes one who follows in another's
footsteps; who is not original in his decisions. After assessing the poem itself, it can be deduced that
the title is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Heaney's poem incorporates the rule of three several times throughout the poem in descriptive
examples such as, "nuisance, tripping, falling." By having the rule of three, there is a constant rhyme
scheme as well throughout the poem. There are eight syllables per line, thus making it an iambic–
tetrameter. It has a constant rhyme scheme and therefore is not a free verse.
The connotations and attitudes that are present in both poems allow for an atmosphere to be created
in which the poets can express their ideal theme present; father–son relationships. In "Do Not Go
Gentle Into That Good Night," Thomas is not just the poet; he is also the speaker of the poem, which
allows for a personal relationship to be established with the poet and subject of the poem. Thomas is
extremely passionate with the concept of not giving up on life throughout his entire poem especially
when he crescendos the poem at the end with him pleading with his father to fight death. As readers,
we feel great sympathy for this poet as we've formed an emotional connection to his subject matter.
Thomas used repetition to emphasize his concepts with the two lines that are restated in several
stanzas, "Rage, rage against the dying of the light" and "do not go gentle into that good night."
Thomas uses connotations to light which refer to death such as the "dying of the light," meaning the
coming of death "good night" that implied dying. When

A wise man does not want to die without his words of wisdom making their own mark on this world.
By the third stanza he uses an image of the ocean as a symbol to describe last generation of men that
dieing. By using the ocean he shows that by the waves crashing against rocks it is giving life in a
green bay.
By the fourth stanza brings in another type of person that don't allow themselves to fade into the
night without fighting back. This is the person that have lived and captured the world in their own
imagination only to begin to see it die and diminish as they enjoyed it when he states "Wild men
who caught and sang the sun in flight/And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way." As for the fifth
stanza, Thomas gives the image of meteors as a symbol that no man should go out quietly but only
go out with a big bang when he states. In the sixth and final stanza Thomas begins to make the poem
feel personal by bringing in his own father. The writer begins to give the image of his dying father in
his final moments. The final moments in which he is begging his father not to go gently into the
night and fight and defy death by bringing back the line from the first stanza in the poem " Do not
go gentle into that good night. By using these images, Thomas helps create a specific tone

Southern Night Figurative Language
Have you ever listened to the song "Southern Nights" by Glen Campbell and wondered what it was
about? When you listen to the figurative language and the tone you will begin to understand what
the purpose of the song is. The format of the song also helps the listener tune into the shifts of the
song. The song is about a person from the south who is trying to persuade others to visit the south,
so they can experience the peaceful and joyful feeling of the winds and skies. The person starts off
by telling the audience how they would spend their time if they were to visit the south. This is
expressed when the person sings "Whistling tunes that you know and love so" The person goes on to
express the feeling of the southern skies. "It's rich precious beauty/It goes running through the soul".
The speaker then tells a story told of old as an analogy to the feeling of the southern skies. "Old
man/He and his dog that walks the old land". The speaker goes on to wish the world was as peaceful
as the southern skies. "Wish I could/Stop this world from fighting". Finally the southern person
sings of how the Southern Nights are mysterious by singing "Mystery... In the southern skies". ...

On the second stanza, the song goes "It goes running through the soul/Like the stories told of old".
This is an excellent example of a simile. On the fourth stanza the song sings "Mystery/Like this and
many others" which is another simile because it uses the word 'Like'. The final example of a simile
is in the third stanza, however this time the song uses the word 'as' instead of 'like'. "Every flower
touched his cold hand/As he slowly walked by/Weeping willows would cry for joy" The final
example of figurative language in "Southern Nights" is the use of personification in the third stanza.
"Weeping willows could cry for joy" is personification because the song is giving willows a human

It's game night for the young Drake Taylor. Overwhelmed with nervousness, with a cold sweat
running down his forehead. "Tonight's the night", Drake said to himself, "tonight's the night of the
game that means everything." For a kid with no confidence, he was pumped to show off his skills.
The bounce of a knee to his favorite motivational song helped him get an edge and focus on his
game. Through all the chaos he waits. Finally getting to the rink from what seemed like a never
ending car ride. Pulling his stinky bag and sticks out of the car he called home for the last three
hours. Stumbling into the ice cold rink, atired with a suit and tie. Looking everywhere for the team

Night by Elie Wiesel and A Spring Morning by Ida Fink
Dehumanization With an overwhelming amount of power, humanity becomes lost in the desire to
control. In the novel Night by Elie Wiesel and the connection "A Spring Morning" by Ida Fink, both
authors demonstrate a common theme of dehumanization by using literary devices such as: specific
diction, symbolism and tone. Throughout the novel and connection, specific diction is used to
express the hatred the Germans felt towards the Jewish during the Holocaust. In the connection "A
Spring Morning", the author uses words such as: "cruel", "torment" and "murder" to show how the
humiliation and fear within the Jews. Each of these words demonstrates a sense of inhumane acts of
terror, for example, to be cruel to someone/ something means to be unnecessarily mean or evil. Fink
also portrays the Jews as becoming dehumanized emotionally. The Jewish are "terrified" and in
"despair" of the German officers and do not know what will become of themselves once they are
taken to the camps. The Germans have the Jewish detained and frightened, like caged animals,
making them feel more animalistic than human. In the novel Night, Wiesel describes his journey
through the Holocaust as "inhumane" and "cursed", further showing how the Jews were treated
poorly due to the Germans undeniable hatred towards them. The novel shows how the Nazi's took
advantage of the power and control they had over the Jews, making them unaware to the torment
and hazard they were causing the Jews. Wiesel uses the word

The Twelfth Night: A Happy Ending? Essay
There is a certain degree of expectation with the genre of comedy that despite whatever difficulties
appear within the play, by the end these will be resolved and the play will have a traditional happy–
ending with a marriage or a celebration in the final scene. The "Twelfth Night" is no exception to
this rule. Despite problems of confused identities and sexualities, the play ends with marriage for the
major characters because they "have learned enough about their own foolishness to accept it wisely,
and their reward, as it should be, is marriage."(Schwartz 5140). There is a resolution of harmony to
a certain extent and an endorsement of romantic love yet despite the happiness evident in the last
scene, there are many elements in the play ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Much of the first half of the Twelfth Night is about disguised identities and general misconceptions
about who is actually who. The play opens on a note of melancholy and death, Orsino grieving
because Olivia refuses to love him and Viola and Olivia mourning the deaths of their brothers. It is
following a shipwreck that Viola disguises herself as a male, ensuring that confusion will be part of
the plot. The idea of masquerading as a member of the opposite sex is a familiar device and the
"complications, artificial as they may appear, are an essential part of the play's complete
development." (Travers 308) It is interesting to note that unlike other comedies such as "The
Tempest", Shakespeare does not create an older generation who prevent the young lovers from being
together; instead it is the perplexity about gender and that keeps them apart. Sebastian, Viola's
identical twin, is the solution to all of the problems, though his appearance does add to it for a short
while. Viola, dressed as Cesario, is mistaken for Sebastian by Antonio, and is asked for the money
that he gave to Sebastian. However, this type of confusion adds to the comic nature of the plot as the
audience is aware of the concealed identities. Order eventually comes from the chaos, disguises are
shed and identities are revealed. The appearance of Sebastian ensures that the marriage will be
possible for the main characters; Viola is free to marry Orsino and Olivia marries Sebastian,
although she

An Informative Essay On David Letterman's Journey
David Letterman has been a household name for many of the years of his outstanding career. Many
individuals, especially in the Baby Boomer generation, have looked forward to watching his show
every night. His historic career led to an emotional and bittersweet end as he said goodbye and
goodnight for the last time of his wonderful career. Although I did not watch the show regularly, I
was aware that he was saying his final goodbye a few days before it actually happened. I believe
that this was due to the fact that Letterman was a pioneer of late–night talk shows. He paved the
road for others like Jimmy Fallon, Stephen Colbert, and Jon Stewart for a comedic talk show. On the
night of his goodbye speech, Jimmy Fallon spoke about Letterman and

Vacation Experience Essay
Have you ever been on a vacation to paradise that turned out to be a nightmare? That was the
experience we had on our first foreign vacation as a family. We had been to Florida's wonderful
beaches many times during my childhood but then decided that we wanted to change things up a bit.
We pondered where we wanted to go for our vacation and decided that it was a good idea to go talk
with a travel agent. She recommended many destinations, but we decided on Cancun, Mexico. We
looked over the booklet that the travel agent gave us and saw many resorts that looked nice. As a
family, we discussed the resorts and decided on one. It was an all–inclusive resort called the
Iberostar. The Iberostar was rated a six star gold resort, which is the highest rating that it could get
from Apple Vacations. It was also a little bit cheaper, which was appealing to us. We booked the
vacation with our travel agent for early July and began to get excited about it. July 1st came around
fast and we were packed and ready to go. Our nonstop flight was scheduled to leave early morning
on July 2nd, at least that's what we thought. We arrived at the airport 2 hours before our flight's
scheduled departure time and stood in the check–in line for over 45 minutes. We flew with a budget
airline, which turned out to be a mistake. Once we got to the check–in counter, we were informed by
the attendant that our flight was delayed two hours. This did not make us happy, but there was
nothing we could do about

What Is Structural Change In Post-Production?
Because Liam had out project drive and his idea was still evolving, even into post–production, he
functioned as our primary editor, though Brielle and I met with him both in and out of class many
times to both help creatively, such as going through out audio interviews and selecting which
segments best fit our theme, and technically, actually working in Adobe Premiere Pro. It was during
this phase in the production that the guest director sat in and viewed one of our rough cuts. Their
insight into the film as encompassing the primary theme of obsession, was a major breakthrough for
our group, which up until that point was getting frustrated with the plethora of footage and audio

However, we agreed that the final sequence at that point already served as a conclusion, because it
showed the sunrise, students scrambling to get work done and then a timelapse of the sky growing
brighter and bluer and a streetlight turning off and that adding a morning sequence would take away
from the night in Ann Arbor focus of the film. Furthermore, we did not have enough shots to
properly pull off the new sequence. We confronted Liam about it and he agreed, thanking us for
reining him in and helping us to avoid extra work for a sequence that we all agreed would have been
cut. Due to some technical issues at ISS Brielle and I were not able to finish the final fine cut, by the
time that we originally planned, but we were able to finish it the next day working in pairs, first
Liam and Brielle, who fixed some pacing issues and specific shots, and then Liam and I, where we
focused on fixing some audio issues. The final cut was the most collaborative part of post–
production. Though we were not all able to meet at the same time, we all got a say in the specifics of
audio and visuals that Liam compiled for the rough cut and I think we are all happy with the work
that we put into it and the finished product. WHAT WORKED AND WHAT DID NOT Though our
film evolved a lot from our original idea, an idea which I already loved, I am very happy with our

My Love Of Football-Personal Narrative
I had always been told my entire life that I should play football. Always the biggest kid in all of my
classes. People would ask me all the time what position I played, I had no idea what they were
talking about and they were always surprised when I told them that I had never played football, and
that I had never planned to. But the older, bigger, and stronger I got and the more encouragement I
got, finally I decided to play my sophomore year of highschool. There was one game I will always
remember that really kick started my love and passion for the game.
It was an away game, at Valley Center, we had been doing good the entire night. I played on the
offensive line, left tackle, and was excited to be in the action. We were up the whole game and the
fourth quarter was approaching fast, and that was a good thing. I was beginning to get tired from all
the playing, trying to catch my breath in between plays seemed like a Herculean task at the time, but
I continued to do my job because it's what I had to do.

Lilith laying on the ground helplessly on the side of the road had just woken up from an eventful
night. But the problem was, she has no clue what happened. Beep! "Ahhhhh... where am I, and why
am I lying on the ground?" she said puzzled. Getting up slowly she pulled out her phone and called

The car ride was long, In the meantime Lilith tried to remember what happened last night, but her
mind was completely blank.. When Lilith got home she sneaked through her bedroom window and
to her surprise there was a note. She read the note and was terrified, the note was devious. It said,
'you might not know what happened last night but I do. Follow my clues or you will be used. See
that map on your dresser, follow the red dotted line to your next clue. May the odds be in your

The Effects Of Nazi Policies On European Jews
Analyse the effects of Nazi policies on European Jews between 1933–1945 The Nazi Policies were
deliberately directed towards European Jews between 1933–1945. They were strictly enforced to
persecute Jews, limit their freedom, rights and opinions. These policies include Aryanization, The
two Nuremberg Laws and The Final solution which led to serious consequences making it one of the
greatest tragedies in history. The result of these policies were overt and deliberate persecution,
imprisonment, torture and death of around six million Jews. On September 15th 1935, during an
annual rally, Hitler released The Nuremberg Laws which consisted of two policies which were
purposefully enforced to exclude Jews from German life. There were two major policies which were
enforced where, "The Law of the Reich Citizen" and "The Law for the Protection of German Blood
and German Honour". Each law was designed to effect German Jews in a certain way which were
all a part of the anti–semitic Nazi regime's plan. The first law being "The Law of the Reich Citizen"
was designed to deprive Jews of their German citizenship, a secondary source outlines the effects of
this law, "the one denied them civil rights and even German citizenships, despite the fact that many
German Jews had ancestors in Germany going back centuries." The Law of the Reich Citizen was
particularly designed to exclude Jews from Germans, almost as if to label them as a threat and
outsiders, stripping away their value as humans.

Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night Essay
Many have heard the saying, "For of all sad words of tongue or pen, The saddest are these: 'It might
have been!'" Regret is often defined as a feeling of sadness or disappointment over something that
has happened or been done. When a person is full of regret, he usually expresses it by showing signs
of repentance, and he often reflects on the choices and decisions that has led him to the point he is
at. Regret and reflection are among one of the most common themes in literature and poetry. In
Dylan Thomas's, "Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night," the speaker is the one who portrays this
idea of regret, as it is a main theme which is displayed through the speaker's interaction with other
people and the reflection that occurs during their last moments of life.
Thomas's poem begins with a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These men lived life, but not the way everyone told them to and most definitely not the most

portrays as being full of regret during their final moments are the Grave men. These men with "blind
eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay" (1. 11) will look back on their past with sorrow, because
they are also overwhelmed with the feeling of regret. Lastly, the speaker chooses to use the
metaphor in which day represents a life cycle, but the sun also becomes a symbol of all that's
beautiful, wonderful, or amazing in the world. The sun stands for all the amazing things in the world
that artists and poets might want to celebrate in their work, but sadly, most men still have the last

Holocaust Theme Essay
Holocaust Theme Essay
The Holocaust was a colossal systematic extermination and murder of about 6 million Jews in
Eastern Europe under the criminal hands of Nazis and SS troops during World War II. It started from
1933 and ended in 1945, when the war in Europe finally ended. The whole genocide was organized
methodically by the leader of Germany at the time, Adolf Hitler. His command of the operation
quickly sprung to action after procedures took place. At first Jews were persecuted, stolen of their
citizenship, then moved into ghettos, and quickly into concentration camps. The evil plot developed
and grew and what started out as hatred turned into a scheme of mass murder. The resources that

In Schindler's List the little girl in the red jacket who died during the Holocaust was a great symbol
for innocence lost. During the Holocaust, mercy wasn't granted to children which broke the
innocence in the extermination process since to the Nazis they weren't useful to work. Another
example is in the quote from "Night", "Infants were tossed into the air and used as targets for the
machine guns" (6 Night). Unfortunately, even babies weren't important and useful enough for Nazis
and were, like many Jews in the Holocaust, subjected to murder with no innocence in consideration.
Additionally, a critical example of the "Nuremburg Trials" is, "Very frequently women would hide
their children under the clothes but of course when we found them we would send the children in to
be exterminated" (291 Nuremberg). Again, the innocence lost in the Holocaust doesn't pardon any
prisoner, any child, any Jew. It was a hateful, wicked strategy to destroy the Jewish race and even
the innocence of people and children would not stop Nazis plans of extermination in the Holocaust.
In conclusion, my impression of the Holocaust is outraged by the events that underwent during the
Holocaust. Personally, the part with the shooting of babies for target practice in "Night" makes me
sick. It makes me wonder how people can live with themselves after tricking themselves to believe
innocent Jews are the enemy when they've done no crime to deserve a

Takeaways Analysis
On Sunday night, the Golden State Warriors defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers 132–113 in Game 2 of
the 2017 NBA Finals, taking a commanding 2–0 series lead. Even though Cavaliers' superstar
LeBron James notched his eighth NBA Finals triple–double, tying him with Magic Johnson for the
most in NBA Finals history, it was not enough to overcome the offensive firepower of the Warriors.
Just like in Game 1, it was once again the Kevin Durant and Stephen Curry show.
Here are three takeaways from Game 2:
1. Kevin Durant is on his way to potentially being named Finals MVP
After his phenomenal Game 1 performance, many people wondered what Kevin Durant would do
for an encore performance in Game 2?
To answer that question, Durant did not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Despite his stellar perimeter defense, the Warriors needed Thompson to find his shot again and give
them an extra offensive boost in Game 2.
Thompson did just that as he pitched in with 22 points and seven rebounds, plus knocked down 4–
of–7 from three–point range. Give Thompson credit though, he is an outstanding shooter and when
you are a shooter like him, you need to have a short memory.
A missed shot will not make or break you. Thompson was knocking down shots inside the arc,
putting the ball on the floor, and dialing it up from distance.
The Warriors will need him to continue to shoot the ball like he did on Sunday night, especially if
they want to win Game 3 on Tuesday night and take a commanding 3–0 series lead.
3. LeBron James is still the greatest player in the world but he cannot do it all
Once again in the NBA Finals, LeBron James gave us another special performance. As I mentioned
earlier, James posted his eighth NBA Finals triple–double consisting of 29 points, 14 rebounds, and

Early in the game, James was playing like a man possessed. He was controlling the tempo, attacking
the basket with force and tenacity, while also getting his teammates involved. He also threw down a
powerful dunk on Andre Iguodala, who was at the wrong place at the wrong time.
However, James' teammates could not reciprocate the favor and help him out. Just like in Game 1,

Methods For Creating A Program
As the focus and scope of the project evolved, so did the methods used to find a solution to the
scheduling problem. The approach to creating a program had several stages, including a method to
define several distinct weeklong schedules to combine, a method taking into account non–
standardized class schedules, and a method combining consistent schedules with additional
constraints. These approaches were each based on the current understanding of the scope and
requirements of the project. In the first stage of the project, the focus was on creating several week
long schedule blocks, composed of mixed shift lengths, that could be combined together over the
entire year to achieve a schedule complying with the ACGME. These schedule blocks would be
grouped by their intended use, such as which day a clinic session was on, day shifts or night shifts,
specific educational blocks like the GPC, and split between first and second/third year residents.
This schedule would be implemented on top of previously assigned educational units and clinic
sessions, and optimized for the correct number of residents during each hour of the day. Figure 3A
demonstrates the schedule blocks, showing the hours assigned by each block over the course of a
Wednesday. This method also included an implementation of the previously defined linear program,
allowing scheduling blocks to be efficiently created for each of the situations required by the
method. As more information was gathered, it became clear

Peer Mentor Reflection
At the beginning of the semester, I wanted to get to know my students in order to understand how I
could utilize my role as a peer mentor, so I decided to have one–to–one meetings with each student
during my office hours. This meeting allowed me to become familiar with all of the students in the
course. It also allowed the students to meet me in my office hour location, which would then make
them feel more comfortable to come for help. I feel as though I have established a positive
relationship with my students where they feel comfortable enough to ask for help when it was
needed. Another important event that made me feel utilized is currently in process as my students
prepare for their final. The students do not have a typical final; they are expected to prepare a

I have attempted to meet with this student multiple times outside of class however, we only had a
chance to meet once. During our meeting, we discussed the amount of effort that they put forth in
class, the attendance policy, and how we could work together to improve their grade. Unfortunately,
the student was dismissive and did not see anything wrong with their performance in class. The host
instructor and I have had many discussions on how we could help this student, but we finally had to

to this student that I will always be willing to help if they ever change their mind, but I cannot help

The Odyssey Entry Of Homer's Odyssey
Odyssey Entry #3 This journey is not one that is comparable to the odyssey, but it is a true account.
This journey started during fall break of this school year. The whole marching band would be
travelling to St. Louis for a contest that was dear to our hearts. Everyone was to meet at the high
school early the night before contest. We were all tired, but excited to be going to St. Louis. The trip
there was a lackadaisical one filled with sleep and lounging around. The only dilemma that occurred
was when everyone but a 3 boys on the bus were sleeping. The three boys decided that they would
play monopoly with one another. Everything went smoothly until they started becoming loud.
Everyone in the front half of the bus tried to ignore them and

Macbeth Quotes From Banquo
Character: Banquo
Partner: Macbeth
Quotation #1: "All's well./ I dreamt last night of the three Weïrd Sisters./ To you they have showed
some truth" (Mac. 2.1.24–26).
Translation: All is fine. Tonight I dreamed of the Weïrd Sisters. They have showed some truth in
what they foretold about you.
Fighting for: Banquo is fighting to calm Macbeth. Banquo does not know why Macbeth is awake,
but as his friend he wants to ensure that Macbeth is fine, able to relax and return to sleep. Banquo is
also explaining why he is awake. Banquo strives to convey his worries over the Weïrd Sisters and
their encounter with them.
Circumstances: Banquo is awake because his thoughts are troubled over his encounter with the
Weïrd Sisters. The Weïrd Sisters foretell that Banquo's children will become kings. In order for this
to occur, one of Banquo's sons would have to commit a regicide. This thought is so terrifying that it
is preventing Banquo from sleeping. Meanwhile, Macbeth is about to commit a regicide and pauses
on his journey to converse with Banquo.
Poetic Device:
The second line scans in iambic pentameter, whereas the third line does not scan. There is assonance
on the long "e" sound of three, and Weïrd. There is alliteration on the "w" of well, and Weïrd. There
is consonance on the "d" sound of dreamt, Weïrd, and showed, on the "r" sound of three, Weïrd,
Sisters, and truth, and on the "t" sound of dreamt, last, night, Sisters, to, and truth.
Conclusion: Night is used to explain when Banquo thinkings about the Weïrd Sisters. The words
imply that they are in the back of his mind constantly and present enough for him to dream about
them. The night is when Banquo subconsciously ponders their mysteries. Night also signifies that
this though happened recently and the time was important.

Sophie Scholl the Final Days
It has become quite ordinary to not think about the past. Sure it gets taught and everyone knows it's
there but people never want to look back. Out of shame? Fear? In today's day, we respect the past
but rarely delve into it except for certain days. Elie Wiesel's book Night is the self–account of
Wiesel's life in the Holocaust. It reflects back to the time through the eyes of a Jewish boy living in
the awful conditions. It tells the story from the first few steps that Hitler takes, to when the camps
was liberated. Wiesel delivered a powerful message "of peace, atonement and human dignity" to
humanity.

In elie Wiesel's Night, a story about the author and his personal connection to the holocaust, the
meaning is little muddled up as it is a memoir so it does not need a very clear meaning. Throughout
the whole book Elie deals with faith issues and self–problems. There is also a theme of constantly
fearing death. Death is always looming over the characters as it is the Holocaust. Although the samr
thing is looming throughout the Final Days, it is a lot different. The death that is shown in Night is
the death of many and the life of few. In The Final Days, it is the death of few and the life of Nazi
Germany. The audience knows she will die, all it takes to know that is a quick google search, but
there is still always a slight glimmer of hope which Night does not have. Hope is definitely a theme
in The Final Days that is not really shown in Night. One possible reason for that is that Elie gives up
fairly quickly. He loses hope and therefore loses faith.
In conclusion, these media pieces both show a lot of the same ideas, but they are quite different on a

Analysis Of Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night
In Dylan Thomas' poem "Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night," the main theme represents
approaching death and how life should be lived to the fullest with no regrets. As for the technical
aspects, there is a constant use of repetition, an ABA rhyme scheme, and no apparent shift. As for
poetic devices, there are a lack of hyperboles and metaphors. The format of the poem is a villanelle,
meaning it has a total of 19 lines with five tercets, followed by a concluding quatrain with 6 stanzas
in total. The speaker is able to display the abstract concept of the poem through symbolism,
structure, and tone. The speaker of the poem uses constant repetition of the lines "do not go gentle

The Final Climatic Scene On Prom Night
The most prominent separation between the two adaptations is the final climatic scene on prom
night. The two major distinctions are Carrie kissing Tommy and killing her gym teacher in De
Palma's version. Carrie kissing Tommy is significant, because it is an act of betrayal against Sue, a
fellow female. In Peirce's version, Carrie also gets swept up in the moment and is about to kiss
Tommy, but stops herself as a gesture of respect for Sue. In De Palma's version every woman is for
herself and ready to terrorize or betray any woman to get what she wants. The lack of diversity in
female characters leads to a message that all women are innately selfish and destructive people.
Even as an adult, Ms. Collins laughs at the pig's blood being dropped on Carrie. Although it is
highly unrealistic that an educator, who has been supportive and protective over Carrie, would laugh
at such a childish and reprehensible act, De Palma includes the gym teacher's betrayal and
consequential death by Carrie. The adult female is then labeled as the same antagonist as the
adolescent girls, cementing De Palmas message of the horror of femininity. Peirce's version
circumvents this portrayal and shows a concerned Ms. Desjardin. Carrie in her anger is about to
strangle Ms. Desjardin, but she realizes her genuine friendship and spares her life. Through the
chaos and destruction it is a moment of kindness, which mirrors Peirce's adaptation in general
incorporating moments of kindness and respect between

Similarities Between Night And Night Michelangelo
Michelangelo did not only restrict himself to depicting men. Many pieces like the Night, where
women were the main focus, could be found detailing his career. This sculpture can be found in the
Medici chapel in Rome. It was a monument erected as a final resting place for the last members of
the final main branch of the Medici family, in honor of Lorenzo de 'Medici and his brother Giuliano.
Though the initial plan had been to place the tomb in Florence, it was ultimately moved. Two
sculptures were placed in front of the one of Giuliano de 'Medici, they are the embodiments of night
and day. They were chiseled out of marble and although the depiction of the night was ultimately
completed, the counterpart was left unfinished. There is an interesting allusion to Greek and Roman
mythology displayed in the image. Two deities in charge of the circulation of day and night, are the
depicted here. The night and day were believed to come around when Artemis, goddess of the moon,

What is quite interesting was that during this time, it was unbecoming of women to pose for these
images, hence many anatomical ideas were created from the figure of man however imbued with
breasts and a softer kinder face while cadavers were used as reference for the more unique features.
"During the Renaissance, artists portrayed the nude male proudly and lovingly [Michelangelo's

detached and loveless," says Prof. Antonio Paolucci, a former Italian minister of

Cinderella Monologue

So here's how it goes. I live in a really big mansion. My father is a business person but I don't really

but our personalities are completely different. I"m really nice, loved to talk, little spoiled––of course
I'm spoiled we're rich. Cinder is rude, mean, and she doesn't want to help or do anything. My two

The Bell Jar Summary
Sylvia Plath subjects the main character of The Bell Jar, Esther Greenwood, to a wide array of
events in the ninth chapter of the novel. Esther experiences sadness, depression, relationship
violence, and a fight for purity in the timeframe of a single day. This odd plot combination seems
from a distance like a jumbled series of unfortunate events. However, each occurrence, along with a
common emotional background of genuine sadness, proves that Esther has begun to distance herself
from her reality and her future by matters that only she can control. The plot of the ninth chapter
focuses on Esther Greenwood's final day in New York City. She begins by walking to her final photo
shoot with another female in the internship program, Hilda. They discuss their feelings of the
Rosenberg execution, which is set to occur that night. At the photo shoot, Esther is the final woman
to have her picture taken. She poses with a paper rose, and bursts out in tears before the
photographer and her boss, Jay Cee. Later that evening, Esther begins to pack for home, ... Show

with an abusive man falls short of this desire, and Esther is ultimately left with nothing for her time
in New York City. Without any purpose derived from a once in a lifetime magazine internship,
Esther's lightly stated future goals of becoming a poet or a publisher are crushed when she realizes

Hockey Ice Short Story
It was the twenty–fourth day of February. What had already been a frigid Minnesota winter day was
about to become the epitome of one. The biggest snowstorm of the winter was coming to leave its
mark on central Minnesota. This storm was of trivial meaning to me though, as I had much more
important things to prepare for that night. I was about to play the most meaningful hockey game of
my entire life. My team was going to square off against one of our biggest rivals, the Alexandria

I was getting eager to get on the ice with my teammates. The first period of the game was what most
had expected out of the game. Stingy defense by both teams led to no score at the end of the time
frame. Coach came in quick talk in the locker room while the ice was being resurfaced, and a few
minutes later we were back on the ice to start the second period. After what seemed like a good start
to the period, things started to fall apart quickly. Alexandria had scored about halfway through to
take the one–zero lead. Before we were able to forget about it and move on, they scored again. In a
matter of less than thirty seconds, Alexandria had doubled its lead over us. The second goal felt as if
we were trying to recover from an initial punch and they threw another before we even knew what
was going on again. Trying to not be too discouraged, we headed back to the locker room for the
second intermission. This is when the facts really hit me hard. I realized that the upcoming period
could potentially be my last. I fought relentlessly to hold back the tears and told myself that there
was still hope. That we still had one more period to go win the game. I also promised myself that I

Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night
Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night Finn Andersson Dylan Thomas Do Not Go Gentle Into
That Good Night by Dylan Thomas explores death and how those facing it should fight for their
lives because death is a heartbreaking subject to him. The writer is addressing his father and pleads
him to resist the power of death as it would be devastating if the father was to die from the writers
perspective. Throughout the poem, Thomas writes about different traits of men. Some aspects
include wise, wild, good and grave which helps create a poem that covers all aspects of a person.
The first stanza is addressed to 'old men' and how they should not simply slip away and die quietly,
they should fight death until the end. Poetic techniques ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
"Dying of the light" is also a symbol for death. The second stanza is addressed to 'wise men' who
know they cannot hide from death and it's inevitability. Poetic techniques used in this stanza are
metaphors, rhyme, symbols and repetition. The line "words had forked no lightning" is a metaphor
because words cannot actually fork lightning. This line suggests that the men hadn't made an impact
on the world, nor accomplished all they wanted to in life. Rhyming is also a technique used in every
line, 'right' and 'night' are rhyming words used, and 'they' in the second line rhymes with 'day' in the
previous stanza. So 'night', 'light' and 'right' rhyme, and 'day' and 'they' rhyme, hence the ABAABA
rhyming pattern. The third poetic device used in the second stanza is symbolism of 'dark' in the first
line, which represents death. Repetition of "do not go gentle into that good night" is repeated every
second stanza as the ending line, 'night' in the final line also symbolises death. The third stanza is
addressed to 'good men' who regret their choices in life and think of how much they could have
achieved, if they had only had lived longer. Poetic techniques used in this stanza are personification,
symbolism, repetition and rhyme. In the second line, we see the use of personification when Thomas
writes of how "their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay", referring to the 'good men'. This
line paints a picture of how the frail

When Reading “Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night” By
When reading "Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night" by Dylan Thomas, "Acquainted with the
Night" by Robert Frost, and "Sestina" by Elizabeth Bishops, the authors use unique imagery,
symbolism, and metaphors to demonstrate a dark atmosphere during the poems. Each poem deals
with dark tones such as depression, sadness, and death. By using imagery, symbolism, and
metaphors, the authors are able to intensify the overall mood of the poems. Thomas uses metaphors
to show different settings of his poem throughout the days and Frost utilizes metaphors, symbolism
and imagery to represent the local setting and distant surroundings. In "Sestina", Bishop uses
imagery and metaphors to enhance the details of her poem.

The poem has a balanced rhythm and the first line rhymes with the third and final line of each stanza
until the final stanza. The final stanza completes the circle and repeats the initial line of the poem. In
addition to the rhyming within each stanza, Frost wrote this poem to consistently throughout where
each stanza had exactly ten syllables and every other word was stressed while reading. This poem
also uses night as a metaphor. Throughout the poem, darkness is represented by the night. It doesn't
represent death, but it is more of a metaphor for depression or sadness. The poem tells of a man that
is walking alone at night through a city. The narration of the poem not only uses night as a
metaphor, it also uses imagery and symbolism to enhance the depth of the poem. In the poem, the
man hears a cry "far away"(Frost 503) and he is said to have "outwalked the city light."(Frost 503)
This symbolism is used to depict the man as being alone and not around anything. He has walked
away from all the lights of the city and is in the darkness of the night. No one else is around and
people would have a hard time hearing him from where he is. When the man passed a watchman, he
"dropped my eyes."(Frost 503) He seemed shy and distant and refused to make any sort of contact
with other individuals. In addition to the darkness, Frost writes that it is raining as the man is
walking alone at night. The poet uses the dark setting, the

Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night Analysis
The poem do not go gentle into that good night by Dylan Thomas is filled with different themes,
symbols, literary devices, and imagery. It shows the theme that you should not give in to your death
and should try to stay alive for as long as possible through imagery. This poem also shows the theme
of how you should never waste your time in the world through literary devices. One final theme that
is in this poem would be how important family is, this is shown through symbolism.
Fighting against your death and not giving into it is one of the main themes, this theme is shown

why you should not waste your time on earth is because you want to prosper more: "their words had

is constantly repeated throughout the poem to prove he feels they should fight against dying

The Ending to Eugene O'Neil's Long Day's Journey Into Night It is understandable that so many
people in our class did not find the last act of Eugene O'Neill's Long Day's Journey Into Night a
satisfying one; there is no tidy ending, no goodbye kisses or murder confessions; none of the
charaters leave the stage with flowers in their hands or with smiles on their faces and none of the
characters give explanatory monologues after the curtain falls, as we've become accustomed to by
reading so much Shakespeare. O'Neill, though, isn't Shakespeare and Long Days Journey Into Night

woman man. In the end, he will propose, and she will say yes. The Bachelorette premiere is almost
here, and People shared that these guys show up to win JoJo over with some pretty crazy stuff in
their suitcases. Chad Johnson shows up with a bag full of protein powder and about $7,000 worth of
clothes. Chad wanted to win over JoJo, but it obviously didn't work for him. Luke Pell brought in
multiple cowboy boots, and Ali couldn't forget his favorite sweater that he likes to wear once a
week. Are you shocked to hear that JoJo Fletcher and Jordan Rodgers were talking before the show
ever started filming? Do you think that these two can make it work? Sound off in the comments
section, and don't miss The Bachelorette 2016 when it starts airing on Monday, May 23 on

Personal Narrative-Kabbalat Shabbat
Naomi
Bruchim habaim Woodlynde School. Which means welcome Woodlynde School. Just about eight
short years I ago I was asked if I was ready for the experience of a lifetime, by my parents. I said
yes. It was only the summer before fifth grade that I went on a journey which was attending
overnight camp at Camp Ramah in the Poconos. Before I arrived, I was happy as can be. But, when
I arrived at the most meaningful place in the world, 2618 Upper Woods Road, Lakewood PA I
constantly balled my eyes out. I was a mess because I was deeply homesick. It was a new
environment. Throughout the experience of my initial summer I continued to be deeply homesick,
but somehow with the friends I had made and the incredible counselors I had enjoyed the summer.
Surprisingly, out of the four weeks of being a wreck I ended up loving Ramah, and made the choice
to continue to be a camper the following summer which was the best choice I ever made.
Ramah isn't just an overnight camp that I found out about out of the blue, but it is a camp that ...

Kabbalat Shabbat is Friday night services the start of Shabbat. Shabbat is a Jewish holiday that
happens every Friday night through Saturday until sundown. The final Kabbalat Shabbat as a
camper for me was the most meaningful. My age group had our chance to perform each dance from
our past summers. Each summer the age group has to learn and perform a dance on a Friday night.
On the final Friday night my age group performed all of our dances that we learn over the pass
summers. I had the feeling of the complete devastation since it was the final day of camp. Another,
meaningful part of Shabbat is when we have tish. Tish is when campers will chant songs in Hebrew
it is when everyone shows their happiness that Shabbat has arrived. The final Tish that I was a part
of I had the opportunity to hand down a song that I lead throughout the summer to a camper who is
a year younger than

Lord Of The Flies Passage Analysis

  • 1. Lord Of The Flies Passage Analysis Lord of the Flies Passage Commentary The passage beginning with "Piggy handed Ralph his glasses...", which is written in the novel Lord of the Flies, portrays the progression of the novel's story line. At first, the children are struggling to start a fire; they become desperate to light a fire for warmth and safety. However, eventually by some miraculous way, the wood lights on fire, causing a relieved tone in the children. Golding incorporates sensory image and repetition of an action to show how the children are struggling. The author then uses symbolism and tone as the literary devices that progress the story line into the final stage. The children eventually manage to light up a fire; Golding uses visual imagery as well as a relieved tone in the children to demonstrate that. In this excerpt from the novel Lord of the Flies, Golding uses many different types of literary devices to show the progression of the children aiming to light a fire that could keep them safe and warm at night, as well as maybe a way of getting rescued. When the children first attempt to light a fire, Golding uses sensory image and repetition of a certain action to demonstrate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The author uses visual imagery, as well as a relieved and uplifted tone to demonstrate to the audience the final attempt at lighting a fire in which the children are able to succeed. Golding writes, "Eric breathed on the wood till it glowed and sent out a little flame. A billow of white and yellow smoke reeked up"(lines 9–11). In this quote, the author uses visual imagery to portray the children succeeding in starting a fire. "Piggy took back his glasses and looked at the smoke with pleasure" (lines 12–13). • 3. College Admissions Essay: The Figment Of A Father The Figment of a Father I was indeed a victim of childhood ignorance. It was an invisible ailment, a disease I did not realize I was suffering from until the facts of life finally cured me. People claim that ignorance equates to bliss, and maybe that statement holds some truth, but my memories disagree. I remember a little girl that believed in so much, until one day she reached a point where she struggled in finding the trust to believe in anything at all. My father lived in a fairly small apartment. Of course as a child small things always appear a little bit grander. I shared a bedroom with my older brother; however, that term somewhat exaggerates its appearance since it included no beds. Instead we slept upon two mattresses on the ground. A situation that to a little girl basically means a slumber party. Responsibilities rarely existed at his apartment. He almost never compelled us to sleep at a certain time, finish our ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Just like me, his apologies were empty. A place in my heart left hollow, ripped out by the poisonous syllables that pounced out of his mouth. Everything changed that night. I truly thought I loved my father, but I only loved a figment of him. I loved the fantasy created in my head. That night poisoned every memory that included my father's presence. Or maybe that night cleansed the memories of my ignorance? I suppose it depends on your perspective. That night I realized the meaning of a broken home because something in me broke. I understand why my mom and brother shielded me from the truth about my father, but I think their protection made the outcome worse. They let him deceive me into loving him, into trusting him, into respecting him. Loving him blinded me. My brother and I participated in all those fun things due to my father's irresponsible actions and the fact that he often wound up too deep in a bottle to discipline us, not because of his cool parenting style. None of his actions earned him the title of a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Compare and contrast the poet‚Äôs relationship with their... When comparing and contrasting two poems one must remember that even though there can be similarities between the two poems, they are however separate entities that express their own thoughts. The primary similarity is that both poems of Heaney and Thomas reflect the in depth relationship in which they share between their fathers whom they have held a constant respect and hierarchy for; the difference is that Heaney has changed his role as he becomes the leading figure and Thomas is trying to salvage his father's life. When first glancing at Seamus Heaney's "Follower," the title connotes one who follows in another's footsteps; who is not original in his decisions. After assessing the poem itself, it can be deduced that the title is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Heaney's poem incorporates the rule of three several times throughout the poem in descriptive examples such as, "nuisance, tripping, falling." By having the rule of three, there is a constant rhyme scheme as well throughout the poem. There are eight syllables per line, thus making it an iambic– tetrameter. It has a constant rhyme scheme and therefore is not a free verse. The connotations and attitudes that are present in both poems allow for an atmosphere to be created in which the poets can express their ideal theme present; father–son relationships. In "Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night," Thomas is not just the poet; he is also the speaker of the poem, which allows for a personal relationship to be established with the poet and subject of the poem. Thomas is extremely passionate with the concept of not giving up on life throughout his entire poem especially when he crescendos the poem at the end with him pleading with his father to fight death. As readers, we feel great sympathy for this poet as we've formed an emotional connection to his subject matter. Thomas used repetition to emphasize his concepts with the two lines that are restated in several stanzas, "Rage, rage against the dying of the light" and "do not go gentle into that good night." Thomas uses connotations to light which refer to death such as the "dying of the light," meaning the coming of death "good night" that implied dying. When ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

By the fourth stanza brings in another type of person that don't allow themselves to fade into the night without fighting back. This is the person that have lived and captured the world in their own imagination only to begin to see it die and diminish as they enjoyed it when he states "Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight/And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way." As for the fifth stanza, Thomas gives the image of meteors as a symbol that no man should go out quietly but only go out with a big bang when he states. In the sixth and final stanza Thomas begins to make the poem feel personal by bringing in his own father. The writer begins to give the image of his dying father in his final moments. The final moments in which he is begging his father not to go gently into the night and fight and defy death by bringing back the line from the first stanza in the poem " Do not go gentle into that good night. When you listen to the figurative language and the tone you will begin to understand what the purpose of the song is. The format of the song also helps the listener tune into the shifts of the song. The song is about a person from the south who is trying to persuade others to visit the south, so they can experience the peaceful and joyful feeling of the winds and skies. The person starts off by telling the audience how they would spend their time if they were to visit the south. This is expressed when the person sings "Whistling tunes that you know and love so" The person goes on to express the feeling of the southern skies. "It's rich precious beauty/It goes running through the soul". The speaker then tells a story told of old as an analogy to the feeling of the southern skies. "Old man/He and his dog that walks the old land". The speaker goes on to wish the world was as peaceful as the southern skies. "Wish I could/Stop this world from fighting". Finally the southern person sings of how the Southern Nights are mysterious by singing "Mystery... In the southern skies". ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On the second stanza, the song goes "It goes running through the soul/Like the stories told of old". This is an excellent example of a simile. On the fourth stanza the song sings "Mystery/Like this and many others" which is another simile because it uses the word 'Like'. The final example of a simile is in the third stanza, however this time the song uses the word 'as' instead of 'like'. "Every flower touched his cold hand/As he slowly walked by/Weeping willows would cry for joy" The final example of figurative language in "Southern Nights" is the use of personification in the third stanza. • 13. Night by Elie Wiesel and A Spring Morning by Ida Fink Dehumanization With an overwhelming amount of power, humanity becomes lost in the desire to control. In the novel Night by Elie Wiesel and the connection "A Spring Morning" by Ida Fink, both authors demonstrate a common theme of dehumanization by using literary devices such as: specific diction, symbolism and tone. Throughout the novel and connection, specific diction is used to express the hatred the Germans felt towards the Jewish during the Holocaust. In the connection "A Spring Morning", the author uses words such as: "cruel", "torment" and "murder" to show how the humiliation and fear within the Jews. Each of these words demonstrates a sense of inhumane acts of terror, for example, to be cruel to someone/ something means to be unnecessarily mean or evil. Fink also portrays the Jews as becoming dehumanized emotionally. The Jewish are "terrified" and in "despair" of the German officers and do not know what will become of themselves once they are taken to the camps. The Germans have the Jewish detained and frightened, like caged animals, making them feel more animalistic than human. In the novel Night, Wiesel describes his journey through the Holocaust as "inhumane" and "cursed", further showing how the Jews were treated poorly due to the Germans undeniable hatred towards them. The novel shows how the Nazi's took advantage of the power and control they had over the Jews, making them unaware to the torment and hazard they were causing the Jews. Wiesel uses the word ... • 15. The Twelfth Night: A Happy Ending? Essay There is a certain degree of expectation with the genre of comedy that despite whatever difficulties appear within the play, by the end these will be resolved and the play will have a traditional happy– ending with a marriage or a celebration in the final scene. The "Twelfth Night" is no exception to this rule. Despite problems of confused identities and sexualities, the play ends with marriage for the major characters because they "have learned enough about their own foolishness to accept it wisely, and their reward, as it should be, is marriage."(Schwartz 5140). There is a resolution of harmony to a certain extent and an endorsement of romantic love yet despite the happiness evident in the last scene, there are many elements in the play ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Much of the first half of the Twelfth Night is about disguised identities and general misconceptions about who is actually who. The play opens on a note of melancholy and death, Orsino grieving because Olivia refuses to love him and Viola and Olivia mourning the deaths of their brothers. It is following a shipwreck that Viola disguises herself as a male, ensuring that confusion will be part of the plot. The idea of masquerading as a member of the opposite sex is a familiar device and the "complications, artificial as they may appear, are an essential part of the play's complete development." (Travers 308) It is interesting to note that unlike other comedies such as "The Tempest", Shakespeare does not create an older generation who prevent the young lovers from being together; instead it is the perplexity about gender and that keeps them apart. Sebastian, Viola's identical twin, is the solution to all of the problems, though his appearance does add to it for a short while. Viola, dressed as Cesario, is mistaken for Sebastian by Antonio, and is asked for the money that he gave to Sebastian. However, this type of confusion adds to the comic nature of the plot as the audience is aware of the concealed identities. • 17. An Informative Essay On David Letterman's Journey David Letterman has been a household name for many of the years of his outstanding career. Many individuals, especially in the Baby Boomer generation, have looked forward to watching his show every night. His historic career led to an emotional and bittersweet end as he said goodbye and goodnight for the last time of his wonderful career. Although I did not watch the show regularly, I was aware that he was saying his final goodbye a few days before it actually happened. I believe that this was due to the fact that Letterman was a pioneer of late–night talk shows. He paved the road for others like Jimmy Fallon, Stephen Colbert, and Jon Stewart for a comedic talk show. On the night of his goodbye speech, Jimmy Fallon spoke about Letterman and ... • 19. Vacation Experience Essay Have you ever been on a vacation to paradise that turned out to be a nightmare? That was the experience we had on our first foreign vacation as a family. We had been to Florida's wonderful beaches many times during my childhood but then decided that we wanted to change things up a bit. We pondered where we wanted to go for our vacation and decided that it was a good idea to go talk with a travel agent. She recommended many destinations, but we decided on Cancun, Mexico. We looked over the booklet that the travel agent gave us and saw many resorts that looked nice. As a family, we discussed the resorts and decided on one. It was an all–inclusive resort called the Iberostar. The Iberostar was rated a six star gold resort, which is the highest rating that it could get from Apple Vacations. It was also a little bit cheaper, which was appealing to us. We booked the vacation with our travel agent for early July and began to get excited about it. July 1st came around fast and we were packed and ready to go. Our nonstop flight was scheduled to leave early morning on July 2nd, at least that's what we thought. We arrived at the airport 2 hours before our flight's scheduled departure time and stood in the check–in line for over 45 minutes. We flew with a budget airline, which turned out to be a mistake. Once we got to the check–in counter, we were informed by the attendant that our flight was delayed two hours. This did not make us happy, but there was nothing we could do about ... Because Liam had out project drive and his idea was still evolving, even into post–production, he functioned as our primary editor, though Brielle and I met with him both in and out of class many times to both help creatively, such as going through out audio interviews and selecting which segments best fit our theme, and technically, actually working in Adobe Premiere Pro. It was during this phase in the production that the guest director sat in and viewed one of our rough cuts. Their insight into the film as encompassing the primary theme of obsession, was a major breakthrough for our group, which up until that point was getting frustrated with the plethora of footage and audio that we had, but a faltering sense of direction. However, we agreed that the final sequence at that point already served as a conclusion, because it showed the sunrise, students scrambling to get work done and then a timelapse of the sky growing brighter and bluer and a streetlight turning off and that adding a morning sequence would take away from the night in Ann Arbor focus of the film. Furthermore, we did not have enough shots to properly pull off the new sequence. We confronted Liam about it and he agreed, thanking us for reining him in and helping us to avoid extra work for a sequence that we all agreed would have been cut. Due to some technical issues at ISS Brielle and I were not able to finish the final fine cut, by the time that we originally planned, but we were able to finish it the next day working in pairs, first Liam and Brielle, who fixed some pacing issues and specific shots, and then Liam and I, where we focused on fixing some audio issues. The final cut was the most collaborative part of post– production. Though we were not all able to meet at the same time, we all got a say in the specifics of audio and visuals that Liam compiled for the rough cut and I think we are all happy with the work that we put into it and the finished product. People would ask me all the time what position I played, I had no idea what they were talking about and they were always surprised when I told them that I had never played football, and that I had never planned to. But the older, bigger, and stronger I got and the more encouragement I got, finally I decided to play my sophomore year of highschool. There was one game I will always remember that really kick started my love and passion for the game. It was an away game, at Valley Center, we had been doing good the entire night. I played on the offensive line, left tackle, and was excited to be in the action. We were up the whole game and the fourth quarter was approaching fast, and that was a good thing. I was beginning to get tired from all the playing, trying to catch my breath in between plays seemed like a Herculean task at the time, but I continued to do my job because it's what I had to do. "Ahhhhh... where am I, and why am I lying on the ground?" she said puzzled. Getting up slowly she pulled out her phone and called the nearest taxi driver. The car ride was long, In the meantime Lilith tried to remember what happened last night, but her mind was completely blank.. When Lilith got home she sneaked through her bedroom window and to her surprise there was a note. She read the note and was terrified, the note was devious. It said, 'you might not know what happened last night but I do. Follow my clues or you will be used. See that map on your dresser, follow the red dotted line to your next clue. May the odds be in your favor.' Lilith became quickly lethargic, but she had to find the next clue, slowly she put the note in her pocket and removed the map from her dresser. • 27. The Effects Of Nazi Policies On European Jews Analyse the effects of Nazi policies on European Jews between 1933–1945 The Nazi Policies were deliberately directed towards European Jews between 1933–1945. They were strictly enforced to persecute Jews, limit their freedom, rights and opinions. These policies include Aryanization, The two Nuremberg Laws and The Final solution which led to serious consequences making it one of the greatest tragedies in history. The result of these policies were overt and deliberate persecution, imprisonment, torture and death of around six million Jews. On September 15th 1935, during an annual rally, Hitler released The Nuremberg Laws which consisted of two policies which were purposefully enforced to exclude Jews from German life. There were two major policies which were enforced where, "The Law of the Reich Citizen" and "The Law for the Protection of German Blood and German Honour". Each law was designed to effect German Jews in a certain way which were all a part of the anti–semitic Nazi regime's plan. The first law being "The Law of the Reich Citizen" was designed to deprive Jews of their German citizenship, a secondary source outlines the effects of this law, "the one denied them civil rights and even German citizenships, despite the fact that many German Jews had ancestors in Germany going back centuries." The Law of the Reich Citizen was particularly designed to exclude Jews from Germans, almost as if to label them as a threat and outsiders, stripping away their value as humans. ... • 29. Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night Essay Many have heard the saying, "For of all sad words of tongue or pen, The saddest are these: 'It might have been!'" Regret is often defined as a feeling of sadness or disappointment over something that has happened or been done. When a person is full of regret, he usually expresses it by showing signs of repentance, and he often reflects on the choices and decisions that has led him to the point he is at. Regret and reflection are among one of the most common themes in literature and poetry. In Dylan Thomas's, "Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night," the speaker is the one who portrays this idea of regret, as it is a main theme which is displayed through the speaker's interaction with other people and the reflection that occurs during their last moments of life. These men with "blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay" (1. 11) will look back on their past with sorrow, because they are also overwhelmed with the feeling of regret. Lastly, the speaker chooses to use the metaphor in which day represents a life cycle, but the sun also becomes a symbol of all that's beautiful, wonderful, or amazing in the world. • 35. Holocaust Theme Essay Holocaust Theme Essay The Holocaust was a colossal systematic extermination and murder of about 6 million Jews in Eastern Europe under the criminal hands of Nazis and SS troops during World War II. It started from 1933 and ended in 1945, when the war in Europe finally ended. The whole genocide was organized methodically by the leader of Germany at the time, Adolf Hitler. His command of the operation quickly sprung to action after procedures took place. At first Jews were persecuted, stolen of their citizenship, then moved into ghettos, and quickly into concentration camps. The evil plot developed and grew and what started out as hatred turned into a scheme of mass murder. The resources that portray the critical themes in the Holocaust ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Schindler's List the little girl in the red jacket who died during the Holocaust was a great symbol for innocence lost. During the Holocaust, mercy wasn't granted to children which broke the innocence in the extermination process since to the Nazis they weren't useful to work. Another example is in the quote from "Night", "Infants were tossed into the air and used as targets for the machine guns" (6 Night). Unfortunately, even babies weren't important and useful enough for Nazis and were, like many Jews in the Holocaust, subjected to murder with no innocence in consideration. Additionally, a critical example of the "Nuremburg Trials" is, "Very frequently women would hide their children under the clothes but of course when we found them we would send the children in to be exterminated" (291 Nuremberg). Again, the innocence lost in the Holocaust doesn't pardon any prisoner, any child, any Jew. It was a hateful, wicked strategy to destroy the Jewish race and even the innocence of people and children would not stop Nazis plans of extermination in the Holocaust. In conclusion, my impression of the Holocaust is outraged by the events that underwent during the Holocaust. Personally, the part with the shooting of babies for target practice in "Night" makes me sick. It makes me wonder how people can live with themselves after tricking themselves to believe innocent Jews are the enemy when they've done no crime to deserve a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Give Thompson credit though, he is an outstanding shooter and when you are a shooter like him, you need to have a short memory. A missed shot will not make or break you. The approach to creating a program had several stages, including a method to define several distinct weeklong schedules to combine, a method taking into account non– standardized class schedules, and a method combining consistent schedules with additional constraints. These approaches were each based on the current understanding of the scope and requirements of the project. In the first stage of the project, the focus was on creating several week long schedule blocks, composed of mixed shift lengths, that could be combined together over the entire year to achieve a schedule complying with the ACGME. These schedule blocks would be grouped by their intended use, such as which day a clinic session was on, day shifts or night shifts, specific educational blocks like the GPC, and split between first and second/third year residents. This schedule would be implemented on top of previously assigned educational units and clinic sessions, and optimized for the correct number of residents during each hour of the day. Figure 3A demonstrates the schedule blocks, showing the hours assigned by each block over the course of a Wednesday. This method also included an implementation of the previously defined linear program, allowing scheduling blocks to be efficiently created for each of the situations required by the method. Macbeth Quotes From Banquo Character: Banquo Partner: Macbeth Quotation #1: "All's well./ I dreamt last night of the three Weïrd Sisters./ To you they have showed some truth" (Mac. 2.1.24–26). Translation: All is fine. Tonight I dreamed of the Weïrd Sisters. They have showed some truth in what they foretold about you. Fighting for: Banquo is fighting to calm Macbeth. Banquo does not know why Macbeth is awake, but as his friend he wants to ensure that Macbeth is fine, able to relax and return to sleep. Banquo is also explaining why he is awake. Banquo strives to convey his worries over the Weïrd Sisters and their encounter with them. Circumstances: Banquo is awake because his thoughts are troubled over his encounter with the Weïrd Sisters. The Weïrd Sisters foretell that Banquo's children will become kings. In order for this to occur, one of Banquo's sons would have to commit a regicide. This thought is so terrifying that it is preventing Banquo from sleeping. Meanwhile, Macbeth is about to commit a regicide and pauses on his journey to converse with Banquo. Poetic Device: The second line scans in iambic pentameter, whereas the third line does not scan. There is assonance on the long "e" sound of three, and Weïrd. There is alliteration on the "w" of well, and Weïrd. There is consonance on the "d" sound of dreamt, Weïrd, and showed, on the "r" sound of three, Weïrd, Sisters, and truth, and on the "t" sound of dreamt, last, night, Sisters, to, and truth. Conclusion: Night is used to explain when Banquo thinkings about the Weïrd Sisters. The words imply that they are in the back of his mind constantly and present enough for him to dream about them. The night is when Banquo subconsciously ponders their mysteries. Night also signifies that this though happened recently and the time was important. Although the samr thing is looming throughout the Final Days, it is a lot different. The death that is shown in Night is the death of many and the life of few. • 52. The Final Climatic Scene On Prom Night The most prominent separation between the two adaptations is the final climatic scene on prom night. The two major distinctions are Carrie kissing Tommy and killing her gym teacher in De Palma's version. Carrie kissing Tommy is significant, because it is an act of betrayal against Sue, a fellow female. In Peirce's version, Carrie also gets swept up in the moment and is about to kiss Tommy, but stops herself as a gesture of respect for Sue. In De Palma's version every woman is for herself and ready to terrorize or betray any woman to get what she wants. The lack of diversity in female characters leads to a message that all women are innately selfish and destructive people. Even as an adult, Ms. Collins laughs at the pig's blood being dropped on Carrie. Although it is highly unrealistic that an educator, who has been supportive and protective over Carrie, would laugh at such a childish and reprehensible act, De Palma includes the gym teacher's betrayal and consequential death by Carrie. The adult female is then labeled as the same antagonist as the adolescent girls, cementing De Palmas message of the horror of femininity. Peirce's version circumvents this portrayal and shows a concerned Ms. Desjardin. Carrie in her anger is about to strangle Ms. Desjardin, but she realizes her genuine friendship and spares her life. Through the chaos and destruction it is a moment of kindness, which mirrors Peirce's adaptation in general incorporating moments of kindness and respect between ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 54. Similarities Between Night And Night Michelangelo Michelangelo did not only restrict himself to depicting men. Many pieces like the Night, where women were the main focus, could be found detailing his career. This sculpture can be found in the Medici chapel in Rome. It was a monument erected as a final resting place for the last members of the final main branch of the Medici family, in honor of Lorenzo de 'Medici and his brother Giuliano. Though the initial plan had been to place the tomb in Florence, it was ultimately moved. Two sculptures were placed in front of the one of Giuliano de 'Medici, they are the embodiments of night and day. They were chiseled out of marble and although the depiction of the night was ultimately completed, the counterpart was left unfinished. • 60. The Bell Jar Summary Sylvia Plath subjects the main character of The Bell Jar, Esther Greenwood, to a wide array of events in the ninth chapter of the novel. Esther experiences sadness, depression, relationship violence, and a fight for purity in the timeframe of a single day. This odd plot combination seems from a distance like a jumbled series of unfortunate events. However, each occurrence, along with a common emotional background of genuine sadness, proves that Esther has begun to distance herself from her reality and her future by matters that only she can control. The plot of the ninth chapter focuses on Esther Greenwood's final day in New York City. She begins by walking to her final photo shoot with another female in the internship program, Hilda. They discuss their feelings of the Rosenberg execution, which is set to occur that night. At the photo shoot, Esther is the final woman to have her picture taken. She poses with a paper rose, and bursts out in tears before the photographer and her boss, Jay Cee. Later that evening, Esther begins to pack for home, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As Marco touches her for the first time, he leaves a "thumbprint purpled into view" and "four, faint matching prints" on her arm. Under these circumstances, most women would realize abuse and cease to see the man accountable any longer. However, Esther still goes to the country club with a "woman–hater" , hoping that the "city's magnificence might rub off on me [Esther] at last." This indicates that Esther is desperate to connect a purpose to her present situation. However, a date night with an abusive man falls short of this desire, and Esther is ultimately left with nothing for her time in New York City. Without any purpose derived from a once in a lifetime magazine internship, Esther's lightly stated future goals of becoming a poet or a publisher are crushed when she realizes that these careers involve a lifestyle that is foreign to ... • 62. Senior Show Research Paper The Senior Show is a relatively new concept at Pinecrest High School, where the seniors, and only seniors, who are part of the theater department produce, direct, cast, and star in a single play completely by themselves. This year the seniors chose to work on a play called Almost, Maine, by John Cariani. The show was performed on May 12, beginning at 7:00 pm. "It's a scene–based show that shows love in different lights by using the fictional town of Almost, Maine," said Hannah Bankos. Almost was produced by Britton Phipps and directed by Bankos and Erik Bensen. Phipps raised the money, starting with an initial budget of $250 and raising it to a final $1,100. A part of the additional money came from the fundraiser that the seniors ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The event lasted two hours beginning at 7:00 pm. All students were invited, but only a handful of students showed up, all of them somehow involved in theater. Participants were allowed to sign up to sing any song alone or in a group. Songs that were well known in pop culture included, Hakuna Matata from the Lion King, Ice Ice Baby by Vanilla Ice, and We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together by Taylor Swift. The night ended with a rendition of Don't Stop Believing where everybody sang. Three weeks after the Karaoke Night was the night of the Senior Show. The show consisted of two acts with a total of nine scenes. These nine scenes were done with a total of 12 actors, and three students who worked behind the scenes. The 12 actors had additional behind–the– scenes rolls, and six had more than one role to play in the show. These six included Hannah Browning and Daniel Herman. "It was so exciting. I mean, it really gave me an opportunity to come out of my shell because I've never played that many characters before, and it was so much fun," said Browning. • 64. Hockey Ice Short Story It was the twenty–fourth day of February. What had already been a frigid Minnesota winter day was about to become the epitome of one. The biggest snowstorm of the winter was coming to leave its mark on central Minnesota. This storm was of trivial meaning to me though, as I had much more important things to prepare for that night. I was about to play the most meaningful hockey game of my entire life. My team was going to square off against one of our biggest rivals, the Alexandria Cardinals, in the section semifinals. We had split the season series with them, so we knew that we were evenly matched. Something about this night was different though. I could sense the gravity of the situation just by walking through the doors of the arena. There was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I was getting eager to get on the ice with my teammates. The first period of the game was what most had expected out of the game. Stingy defense by both teams led to no score at the end of the time frame. Coach came in quick talk in the locker room while the ice was being resurfaced, and a few minutes later we were back on the ice to start the second period. After what seemed like a good start to the period, things started to fall apart quickly. Alexandria had scored about halfway through to take the one–zero lead. Before we were able to forget about it and move on, they scored again. In a matter of less than thirty seconds, Alexandria had doubled its lead over us. The second goal felt as if we were trying to recover from an initial punch and they threw another before we even knew what was going on again. Trying to not be too discouraged, we headed back to the locker room for the second intermission. This is when the facts really hit me hard. I realized that the upcoming period could potentially be my last. I fought relentlessly to hold back the tears and told myself that there was still hope. That we still had one more period to go win the game. I also promised myself that I was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night Finn Andersson Dylan Thomas Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night by Dylan Thomas explores death and how those facing it should fight for their lives because death is a heartbreaking subject to him. The writer is addressing his father and pleads him to resist the power of death as it would be devastating if the father was to die from the writers perspective. Throughout the poem, Thomas writes about different traits of men. Some aspects include wise, wild, good and grave which helps create a poem that covers all aspects of a person. The first stanza is addressed to 'old men' and how they should not simply slip away and die quietly, they should fight death until the end. Poetic techniques ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... "Dying of the light" is also a symbol for death. The second stanza is addressed to 'wise men' who know they cannot hide from death and it's inevitability. Poetic techniques used in this stanza are metaphors, rhyme, symbols and repetition. The line "words had forked no lightning" is a metaphor because words cannot actually fork lightning. This line suggests that the men hadn't made an impact on the world, nor accomplished all they wanted to in life. Rhyming is also a technique used in every line, 'right' and 'night' are rhyming words used, and 'they' in the second line rhymes with 'day' in the previous stanza. So 'night', 'light' and 'right' rhyme, and 'day' and 'they' rhyme, hence the ABAABA rhyming pattern. The third poetic device used in the second stanza is symbolism of 'dark' in the first line, which represents death. Repetition of "do not go gentle into that good night" is repeated every second stanza as the ending line, 'night' in the final line also symbolises death. The third stanza is addressed to 'good men' who regret their choices in life and think of how much they could have achieved, if they had only had lived longer. Poetic techniques used in this stanza are personification, symbolism, repetition and rhyme. In the second line, we see the use of personification when Thomas writes of how "their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay", referring to the 'good men'. This line paints a picture of how the frail ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When Reading “Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night” By When reading "Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night" by Dylan Thomas, "Acquainted with the Night" by Robert Frost, and "Sestina" by Elizabeth Bishops, the authors use unique imagery, symbolism, and metaphors to demonstrate a dark atmosphere during the poems. Each poem deals with dark tones such as depression, sadness, and death. By using imagery, symbolism, and metaphors, the authors are able to intensify the overall mood of the poems. Thomas uses metaphors to show different settings of his poem throughout the days and Frost utilizes metaphors, symbolism and imagery to represent the local setting and distant surroundings. The poem has a balanced rhythm and the first line rhymes with the third and final line of each stanza until the final stanza. The final stanza completes the circle and repeats the initial line of the poem. In addition to the rhyming within each stanza, Frost wrote this poem to consistently throughout where each stanza had exactly ten syllables and every other word was stressed while reading. This poem also uses night as a metaphor. Throughout the poem, darkness is represented by the night. It doesn't represent death, but it is more of a metaphor for depression or sadness. The poem tells of a man that is walking alone at night through a city. The narration of the poem not only uses night as a metaphor, it also uses imagery and symbolism to enhance the depth of the poem. In the poem, the man hears a cry "far away"(Frost 503) and he is said to have "outwalked the city light."(Frost 503) This symbolism is used to depict the man as being alone and not around anything. He has walked away from all the lights of the city and is in the darkness of the night. No one else is around and people would have a hard time hearing him from where he is. When the man passed a watchman, he "dropped my eyes."(Frost 503) He seemed shy and distant and refused to make any sort of contact with other individuals. In addition to the darkness, Frost writes that it is raining as the man is walking alone at night. The poet uses the dark setting, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Ending to Eugene O'Neil's Long Day's Journey Into Night It is understandable that so many people in our class did not find the last act of Eugene O'Neill's Long Day's Journey Into Night a satisfying one; there is no tidy ending, no goodbye kisses or murder confessions; none of the charaters leave the stage with flowers in their hands or with smiles on their faces and none of the characters give explanatory monologues after the curtain falls, as we've become accustomed to by reading so much Shakespeare. O'Neill, though, isn't Shakespeare and Long Days Journey Into Night is as different from, say, A Midsummer's Night Dream or Twelfth Night than a pint of stout ale is from a glass of light chardonney. Even Jamie, who is berated time and time again for his loose tongue, stammers, as he has things that he has left unsaid and that no one is really aware. In the beginnings of the play we are given the extreme circumstances surrounding the family that day: Edmund is to be diagnosed with consumption, Mary is to fall deeper and deeper into an addiction from which she supposedly recovered, and each of the characters is to unravel under the strain that all the stammering has placed upon them. We are given the impression that the events of the fourth act has never happened before; for example, even though he has lived with his father for more than twenty years, Edmund has never heard him speak the way he speaks to him in his final act, when his father tells him of how miserable he is now and how he was so muh happier as a struggling, young actor than as a commerial success. Saturday night in the Air Canada Centre, we may have witnessed the greatest dunk contest duel since Michael Jordan and Dominique Wilkins competed for the dunk crown in 1988. Entering Saturday's NBA Slam Dunk Contest, LaVine, the defending dunk champion, was the prohibited favorite over an unproven field. However, Orlando Magic forward Aaron Gordon refused to let LaVine run away with the dunking title like he did a year ago. A record number of eight 50s were handed out, and that total could have been higher if "Russian" judge Shaquille O'Neal had not handed out a pair of 9s on Gordon and LaVine attempts in the opening round. As the contest progressed, both dunkers were forced to make up dunks up on the fly following a Championship Round in which both dunkers posted dual 50s. Gordon and LaVine consulted with other players on the sideline as they tried to come up with new material on the spot. Both dunkers repeatedly sent the Canada Centre crowd into a frenzy with a record six consecutive perfect scores as the event morphed into a sudden death dunk–off where putting up anything less than a 50 was likely to lose the competition. Just about eight short years I ago I was asked if I was ready for the experience of a lifetime, by my parents. I said yes. It was only the summer before fifth grade that I went on a journey which was attending overnight camp at Camp Ramah in the Poconos. Before I arrived, I was happy as can be. But, when I arrived at the most meaningful place in the world, 2618 Upper Woods Road, Lakewood PA I constantly balled my eyes out. I was a mess because I was deeply homesick. It was a new environment. Throughout the experience of my initial summer I continued to be deeply homesick, but somehow with the friends I had made and the incredible counselors I had enjoyed the summer. Surprisingly, out of the four weeks of being a wreck I ended up loving Ramah, and made the choice to continue to be a camper the following summer which was the best choice I ever made.
