The logical alternative is to install a fiber-based distribution network that can handle speeds well beyond 1 Gbps, that is, Fiber-To-The-Desktop (FTTD). For the FTTD, you have to choose the best optical technologies: Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON) based optical technologies. This blog introduces the concept of using GPON for FTTD applications to serve the needs of the modern-day business.

Choosing the right fiber-optic cable has become more challenging than ever. Factors like the advent
of new cable designs, suppliers, changes in fiber specifications, and the many claims of cable
performance can confuse even the most seasoned network designers.
When talking about direct attach cables, we may come across breakout cable, such as Cisco QSFP+ breakout cable. There are many kinds of breakout cables, and they are suitable for various applications. For example, a Cisco QSFP-4SFP10G-CU5M compatible QSFP+ to 4 SFP+ passive direct attach copper breakout cable, as shown below, connects to a 40G QSFP+ port of a Cisco switch on one end and to four 10G SFP+ ports of a Cisco switch on the other end, and is used for very short distances and offers a very cost-effective way to connect within racks and across adjacent racks. Other than copper breakout cable, there is also fiber breakout cable. What is fiber breakout cable? How much do you know about fiber breakout cable? In this post, a brief introduction to fiber breakout cable will be given.

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.

Loose tube cables tutorial
1. As is usually the case in many networks, specific architectural characteristics,
installed environment and particular applications may dictate the deployment of one
type of cable over the other. The topic "How to choose the right fiber optic cable" has
become more valued than ever. To satisfy the installation requirements in a poor
environment or prevent the fiber from outside damages, such as water, fire or animal
biting etc., nowadays many fiber optic cables with different functions have been
designed and launched in the market which includes tight buffered cable, loose tube
cable, distribution cable, ribbon cable and so on. Today, we will introduce one of the
most common used fiber cables in the outdoor environment—the Loose Tube Cables.
Structure of Loose Tube Cables
Due to the unique design of strength and water-blocking gel or tapes, loose tube
fiber optic cables can offer the best protection for the fibers under high pulling
tensions or wet place. In general, a loose tube cable consists of 12 strands of
fiber, but can range anywhere as low as 6, all the way up to 244 strands. There
are seven elements in a loose tube cable. Each element plays a important role in
the cable according to its own feature.
Multiple 250 Micron bare fibers (in loose tube) One or more loose
tubes holding 250um bare fibers. Loose tubes strand around the
central strength member Moisture blocking gel in each loose tube for
water blocking and protection of 250um fibers Central strength member
(in the center of the cable and is stranded around by loose tubes)
Aramid Yarn as the primary tensile strength member Ripcord (for easy
removal of outer jacket) Outer jacket (the common material is the
polyethylene)
Loose tube cables can be either dielectric or optionally armored. The loose-tube
design helps in the identification and administration of fibers in the system.
