LSC BASEBALL
Non-conference action continues this week with Lone Star Conference baseball teams playing series that will not count
in the league standings.
LSC teams are playing a 10-week schedule with a four-game series against every other team during weeks 8-14
determining the LSC Champion. Conference series scheduled weeks 5-7 will not count toward the league standings.
Each four-game series shall consist of a 9-inning game Friday, a 7x7 doubleheader Saturday and 9-inning contest Sunday.
The overall LSC Champion will be the team(s) with the best winning percentage in regular-season conference games,
while the winner of the postseason championship will be recognized as LSC Tournament Champion and receive the
league’s automatic qualification into NCAA postseason. This season, the top six teams play a single-elimination
championship on May 10-11-12, at the No. 1 seed.
LSC baseball teams are 53-26 overall this season. In the NCAA South Central Region, the teams are currently 10-10
combined versus Heartland Conference teams and 16-4 against the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.

PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
HITTER
Christian Loya, West Texas A&M University, JR, DH, Amarillo, Texas, Amarillo HS
Loya paced the Buffs to a big series win at UAFS this week as he belted two home runs with four runs scored and two RBI
in the series. Loya had the game-tying home run in the rubber match Monday as the Buffs battled back from a 3-0
deficit for a 5-4 win in 10 innings and he scored the winning run in the tenth after reaching on a single. He had a solo
home run in the second game Sunday breaking up a no-hitter by the Lions with the Buffs' only hit and run of the game.
He walked once, struck out twice and got hit by a pitch as he slugged .833 and reached base at a .429 clip. Loya has hit
safely in each of the last four games and has reached base in the last 10 games.
PITCHER
Carson Childers, Angelo State University, R-FR, Pitcher, Round Rock, Texas, Round Rock HS
Childers was dominant on the mound in game four, pitching six shutout innings and allowing just one hit in that time for
a paltry opponent batting average of .063. His seven strikeouts were a season-high and brought his total for the year to
20, which is tied for first on the team and eighth best in the conference.

OTHER TOP PERFORMERS
Michael Urquidi, Angelo State University, led the Ram offense, reaching base 11 total times on the weekend while
scoring five times and driving in three runs in the series versus CSU-Pueblo. The junior hit .636 and had an on-base
percentage of .733 and a slugging percentage of .727, all of which was first on the team. He also swiped five bags and is
now tied for the team lead with 10 on the year.
Francisco Rodriguez, Tarleton State University, continued his torrid pace at the plate as the senior outfielder hit .571
to lead the Texans to their second consecutive series sweep and first four-game sweep of the season. Rodriguez was 8-
for-14 at the plate with 9 runs scored and six RBI. Of his eight hits, three went for extra bases - two doubles and a home
run - to boast a slugging percentage of .929 for the weekend. He also walked three times and had seven putouts in
centerfield and a 1.000 fielding percentage. He had a multi-hit performance in three of the four games, including a 4-for-
4 day in Monday's 14-1 win in the series finale.
Nathan Hickey, Tarleton State University, continued his early season dominance as the senior right-hander from
Granbury tossed his second consecutive complete-game shutout to lead Tarleton to a 4-0 victory in the opening game of
Sunday's doubleheader. Hickey threw all seven innings, allowing just five hits and one walk while striking out six. Adams
State managed to hit only .217 for the game. Dating back to last weekend, Hickey has now thrown 14 consecutive
scoreless innings.
Braden Baker, West Texas A&M University, earned his first save of the season pitching the final three innings in an
11-6 win at Arkansas-Fort Smith on Sunday and came back with 3.0 innings earning the win in relief on Monday in a 5-4
win in 10 innings as the Buffs won the season-series 2-1. Baker allowed four hits, no runs, walked two and fanned seven
as the Lions hit just .235 against him. On Monday, he got out of jams in the eighth and tenth innings with the game tied
(8th) and WT leading (10th) with a runner at third and less than two outs as he posted back-to-back strikeouts in each
instance. For the season, Baker is 3-0 with a 1.32 ERA in 13.2 innings of work and five relief appearances. He has fanned
21 for the year and walked just two, while allowing just two earned runs and 10 hits.

3. Tarleton State
Tarleton swept Adams State in four games. The Texans will head to Canyon next weekend for a four-game series with
West Texas A&M in non-conference play.

UT Permian Basin
UT Permian Basin went 1-3 last week in baseball. They dropped a double-header Friday against the University of the
Southwest. Sunday they split a double-header with Newman with a walk-off win in the second game. UTPB pitching
was impressive this week. Tyler Averitt, Cale Thornton and Owen Bessette each went at least two innings without
allowing a hit. Ivan Thomas pitched five innings only allowing one run in the win on Sunday. Nick Bartley only allowed
one run in three innings pitched over the weekend. Dalton Drury led the UTPB offense with four hits, including two
triples, one of them a walk-off triple. Simon Clarke had three hits on the week including a two-run double.
West Texas A&M
The West Texas A&M baseball team improved to 11-2 with a 2-1 series win at Arkansas-Fort Smith this week...The Buffs
opened the series with an 11-6 win for their 10th win in a row to that point, but were one-hit in the second game for the
first time since 2005 as junior Christian Loya broke up the no-hitter with a solo home run...On Monday, the Buffs got
down 3-0, but battled back as junior Justice Nakagawa belted his third home run of the season and Loya added his
second of the series, while WT tied the game at four late and senior Brandon Marrero hit a RBI double in the 10th for
the game winner...Junior Braden Baker pitched the final three innings, fanning five and allowing two hits with one
walk...He got out of two huge jams - one in the eighth with a runner at third with less than two outs and one in the 10th
with the tying run at third and both times he fanned the final two batters to get out of the jams Monday...The Buffs
return home to host Tarleton State in a four-game non-conference series beginning Friday at 6:30 p.m. at Wilder Park
with a single game, followed by a doubleheader Saturday beginning at 4 p.m. and a single game set for Sunday at 1
p.m...Both WT and TSU won four-game series' over Adams State as WT did that last weekend and TSU this weekend.
