LSC BASEBALL
Texas A&M-Kingsville and Angelo State are tied atop the Lone Star Conference standings with identical 20-9
records with two weeks of league play remaining.
	 LSC teams are playing a 10-week schedule with a four-game series and three-game series against every other
team. Each four-game series shall consist of a 9-inning game Friday, a 7x7 doubleheader Saturday and 9-inning
contest Sunday, and each three-game series shall consist of a 9-inning game Friday and a 7x9 doubleheader
Saturday.
	 The overall LSC Champion will be the team(s) with the best winning percentage in regular-season conference
games, while the winner of the postseason championship will be recognized as LSC Tournament Champion and
receive the league’s automatic qualification into NCAA postseason. The championship will be played May 12-
13-14, at the No. 1 seed.
	 LSC baseball teams are 141-117 overall this season. In the NCAA South Central Region, the teams are
currently 21-11 combined versus Heartland Conference teams and 8-4 against the Rocky Mountain Athletic
Conference.
PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
CO-HITTER
Cody Knight, Cameron University, JR, 1B, Geromino, Okla., Geromino HS
Knight came off the bench with six straight hits at Tarleton State and scored six runs for the Aggies in their two
wins last weekend. The CU junior batted .857 with three doubles, and slugged 1.286 against TSU. Knight came
off the bench in the seventh inning with a single and double, along with two runs to help the Aggies rally past
the Texans 6-5 after trailing by four. On Sunday, Knight had four straight hits with two doubles and four runs
scored in CU’s 15-2 win. Knight’s run at a perfect batting weekend ended with a fly out in his seventh at-bat of
the weekend.
Sam Kohler, Angelo State University, SR, Second Base, Dripping Springs, Texas, Dripping Springs HS
Kohler was a rock for the Rams offensive attack this week and he played a major role in ASU’s series sweep
of WTAMU. The senior went 8-for-15 at the dish for the week, which included a 3-for-3 performance in Friday
night’s game. The eight hits placed him just four behind the conference leader with 54. He recorded a team
high .533 batting average, a .733 slugging percentage and a .588 on base percentage for the series. Kohler
tallied three total RBIs, his sixth double, his second triple and scored three times. On the field, the second
baseman chalked up 12 put outs and 10 assists. He remains second in the LSC with 133 total assists and first
having fielded 25 double plays in 2016.
PITCHER
Trevor Renfro, Tarleton State University, SR, RHP, Richardson, Texas, J.J. Pearce HS
Renfro continued to deal during his senior campaign as the right-hander threw his fifth consecutive complete
game to give Tarleton a 6-1 win over Cameron Friday night. Renfro allowed one run on four hits in seven innings
of work, over which he struck out eight batters. He kept the league leaders in batting average to a mere .160
batting clip for the afternoon.
OTHER TOP PERFORMERS
	 Forrest Perron, Tarleton State University, did exactly what you want from a leadoff hitter during Tarleton’s
three-game series against Cameron. The redshirt junior hit .500 with two runs scored and three RBIs while
drawing three walks for a .692 on-base percentage for the weekend.
	 Pablo Hernandez, Texas A&M University - Kingsville, went 7-of-16 in the 4-0 week for Texas A&M-Kingsville...
leading the conference with seven home runs, the freshman began the week with a 1-for-4 performance at No.
9/t-17 St. Edwards... in game one vs. Eastern New Mexico, the right-hander went 3-for-5 with a run scored and
RBI before adding an RBI single in game two and two hits and four RBI, including a two-run double in the series
finale... for the week, the Houston native hit .438 and reached base safely in 9 of his 18 plate appearances.
	 Lance Elling, Texas A&M University - Kingsville, appeared in three games last week, collecting two saves and
five punchouts in 5.2 innings... the senior right-hander began with two strikeouts in 2.1 scoreless innings at
No. 9/t-17 St. Edward’s, followed by three k’s in a 2.1 inning save in the series opening win over Eastern New
Mexico... in the series finale, the San Antonio native tossed a scoreless ninth for his second save of the series
and third of the season... on the year, Elling is 3-1 with a 2.14 ERA.
	 Graylon Brown, Angelo State University, played a major role in the Rams rotation this weekend’s sweep of
No.17 West Texas A&M. The senior notched two more saves against the Buffs to pull to within one of tying
the LSC career record of 24. He is currently second in the conference with six total saves on the season. Brown
also earned his fifth win of the season in the third and final game of the series, where he was called upon to
hold the Buffs offense at bay while the Rams engineered a second straight comeback win. Against the Buffs the
Brownwood, Texas native held the opposition to a .200 average at the dish. Earlier in the week, despite leading
the staff with four strikeouts, Brown was credited with the loss to St. Mary’s.

Angelo State	
Angelo State began the week with a tough loss to non-conference opponent, St. Mary’s. However, the team
rebounded with a weekend sweep of No.17 West Texas A&M, which included a pair of come from behind wins
during Saturday’s doubleheader. Pitcher Matt Shannon got things rolling in the right direction for the Rams in
the first game of the WTAMU series, earning his fifth win of the season. The sophomore tossed eight innings
giving up only one run on three hits and retiring seven on strikes. Offensively, Tyler Coolbaugh and Paxton
DeLaGarza made solid contributions. DeLaGarza cranked his team leading sixth home run of the season, plated
four total runs and scored a team leading three times. While, Coolbaugh recorded a team second .429 average
at the plate, drawing a team leading four walks for the week.
Cameron	
2-1 last week.
Eastern New Mexico	
The Eastern New Mexico Baseball team went 0-3 over the weekend, dropping the series against Texas
A&M-Kingsville. Daniel Ward led the team from the plate, going 7-for-12 with four RBIs and a .917 slugging
percentage.
Tarleton State	
Tarleton won one of three in a home series against Cameron. The Texans will host Texas A&M-Kingsville in the
regular season finale this weekend.
Texas A&M-Kingsville	
Texas A&M-Kingsville went a perfect 4-0 last week, with an upset 9-3 victory over No. 9/T17 St. Edward’s and
a three-game sweep of LSC foe Eastern New Mexico... with the three LSC wins, TAMUK remains in first place
along with Angelo State... the Hogs head to Tarleton State for three games this weekend.
West Texas A&M	
The #17 West Texas A&M baseball team was swept for the first time in a conference series since also playing
at Angelo State since Apr. 22-23, 2011...WT lost three games at Angelo State over the weekend and had leads
midway through a doubleheader on Saturday, but were unable to hang on in either game...WT has lost four
straight games marking the first time that has happened since March 23-29, 2013, in games at Tarleton State
and at Angelo State...Despite the 0-3 week, the Buffs starting pitching played well in seniors Brooks Trujillo,
Austin Moore and Luke Wiechec, but the bullpen struggled allowing 12 runs with nine earned, while the
starters allowed four runs with three earned...Three errors led to four unearned runs...WT hit just .212 for the
series as ASU hit .308...Senior Josh Day returned to the WT starting lineup for the first time since mid-March
as he went 5 of 9 for a .556 average with two runs scored, one double and one RBI, while having four putouts
in the outfield and one assist gunning a player down at the plate...ASU turned three key double plays while the
Buffs had one...Other than Day and senior Mason Shiflett who had four hits, no other Buff had more than two...
Three starting Buffs went hitless for the weekend.
