Meaning of Packaging
Packaging is a process in which Containers and Wrapping materials are
used-
○ to protect,
○ To contain,
○ To identify,
○ To promote and
○ To facilitate the transportation and use of the product.
Consumer and Logistical Packaging
Consumer packaging
• It acts as a marketing tool (brand name, logo, visuals etc as a branding tool)
• Mainly focus is on attractiveness and appeal
• Protection and preservation of inside stuff
• Information sharing (regulatory information like , measurement, price, lot no,
license no, Expiry date, composition/ingredients etc & use instructions)

Logistical packaging
• It is used mainly for Distribution purpose.
• It is guided by distribution objectives of the business
• The focus is on Optimal Space utilisation, Efficient Material handling and
Safety and overall cost optimisation.
• The primary purpose of packaging is Protection from
damage/breakage/pilferage during Transportation, storage and handling.
