2. HOUSE
For several scenes we required the use of a house, to show the domestic lives of
two of the characters. In order to make the video more voyeuristic we showed the
band members where they live to make them more relatable. The living room was
suitable as we could move the sofa and block the shoot using the door and theTV.
The bedroom was also good as we shot coming up the outside stairs and into the
room, creating a sense of dynamicism.
3. PARK
In one scene we needed a park for two characters to walk down to show their
regular lives, again creating a connection between the band member and the
audience. For this we needed a picturesque scene with a nice walkway
4. CAFE
The café was used in another domestic scene with a band member. It was hard
finding a café that would let us film. This café was a small independent café and
was okay with us using both the inside and the outside, as well as having fun
getting involved. The colourful palette can be used to create a happy effect
originally, then turn bittersweet when it is revealed the girlfriend is cheating.
5. ROAD
We needed a symmetrical road for the walking shots. These shots are key to
showing the central theme of moving forward. For this we needed a nice looking
road that was also realistic to the setting of the video (a small town). We used this
road as it was beset on both sides by a nice green colouring and was quiet without
much traffic, so we could film in the same spot (necessary to create the fading
effect) without being disturbed.
6. STUDIO
One code and convention of a rock music video is a dark room where the band
play. The lighting is typically red and green, but is very ominous. For this we used a
drama studio at our school as it had a lighting system that we could use to create
the appropriate atmosphere. Also It was a large space so we could fit all the
instruments and kit. This fits the codes and conventions of a typical rock video.
7. GRAVEYARD
The final scene took place in a graveyard, in order to present the twist that the
girlfriend had died. This was important as it adds to the central theme as moving
on from dark times. For the grave we wanted something that looked recent but
also presented the traditional portrayal of a graveyard. The graveyard we used
was good as it had bright colouring and atmosphere, which was quite bittersweet
in the context.
