Specifically, it establishes a dreary forest setting, uses props like money and lighters that would be useful for survival, costumes the characters in dirty military clothing, employs close-ups of violence and shots that show the environment and its changes, uses dim lighting to depict a lifeless world, and includes non-diegetic music and natural sounds to set the mood. Overall, it demonstrates how the opening draws from tropes of the post-apocalyptic genre to develop a realistic and depressing tone.
The document discusses several movie trailers and posters for horror films such as Eden Lake, Wolf Creek, The Wolfman, and Jennifer's Body. It analyzes the trailers' editing techniques, use of music, sounds, and intertitles to build suspense and convey that the films are part of the horror genre. The posters are also examined for their use of colors, imagery, and text to attract the target audience and communicate that the films contain danger and threats. Narrative themes common in horror films like knives, silhouettes, and victims being chased are also mentioned.
The opening sequence of The Ring establishes characters, location, and themes to immerse the audience in the story. It is set at night in an isolated, old house to create an eerie atmosphere. Shots establish two teenage girls watching TV and build tension as strange events occur, like the TV turning on by itself. Cinematography uses angles, focus, and tracking shots to draw the audience in and build suspense. The mise-en-scene features dull lighting, gloomy weather, and a significant TV prop to continue unsettling the audience. Slow editing pace increases engagement and a climactic ending transitions to the main story of a mysterious deadly video. Overall, the opening pulls the audience into the psychological horror through un
The purpose of the film was primarily to make money by entertaining audiences through horror and terrifying them. It also aimed to educate viewers not to enter random caves. The genre is horror, shown through dark scenery, monsters, and jump scares. It also explores relationships and betrayal. The best form for the story is a film rather than a book, as it relies on visuals like darkness and jump scares that cannot be described effectively in text. The film uses techniques like blue lighting, sound effects, music, and fake caves to set the scene and elicit emotions from audiences by making them feel uncomfortable or demonstrating how lost and panicked the characters are.
The serial drama follows the true crimes of Ian Brady and Myra Hindley who murdered five children in the 1960s on the moors outside of Manchester. It tells the story linearly from the perspectives of Myra, Ian, Myra's sister Maureen, and Maureen's husband David. The drama establishes the moors as a foreboding location and shows hints that Ian and Myra's public personas differ from who they truly are. Tensions rise during an argument between Ian and David on the moors.

The document discusses segmenting audiences into demographics for media production. It notes several common demographics used include age, gender, race, interests, technology comfort level, and income. When deciding a target audience, producers consider how multiple demographics intersect to describe the audience. The example given targets C2/D females aged 11-18 who are digital natives comfortable with technology and interested in fantasy genres. 2. The genre of this film would be a fantasy film but also sub genres such as
action and drama too as the film involves essence of fantasy with mystical
creatures and characters. There is action involved with the fighting mainly at
the end of the film where obviously the good and the evil fight, it also is
classed as a drama to with the story line involved the fact that Ursula was
forced to give her child away, she and her farther clashed and then the drama
with finding her daughter and actually telling her.
GENRE
3. The running time would be about 90 mins to about 120 mins so the tory line
has enough time to play out and the story isn't rushed however it wouldn't be
any longer because if it was too long like other films such as The Hobbit the
audience would loose interest.
RUNNING TIME
4. At the beginning of the film we watch a young kind girl grow up in the sea with her father
surrounded by beautiful scenery and mystical creatures. As she grows up she wonders about
life away from the sea but is forbidden by her father. She falls in love with a male mermaid
as she grows up and she falls pregnant, when she gives birth her baby is straight away taken
away from her by her father and the baby is sent away and her partner is killed by her father.
In the middle of the story Ursula changes as a person, she becomes evil, and dark to cover
her pain on the inside and she hates her father, afterwards her father dies and she becomes
queen of the sea, the sea life becomes dark and dangerous as it is ruled by Ursula. The story
then focuses on Ariel, Ursula’s daughter and we see her grow up as a graceful young lady
and, like her mother has desires about life outside the sea, but Ursula has forbidden anyone
from the sea to go to shore, here Ariel travels the sea near Ursula’s sea kingdom and grows
to hate her .
Near the end of the story the sea creatures alike Ariel want sea life to go back to how it
used to be like and investigates what made Ariel become evil they soon go searching for her
daughter and learn the Ariel is her daughter but they don’t reach Ariel in time to tell her as
she has already gone to fight Ursula, As they fight Ariel soon learns that Ursula is her
mother and she see’s her memory of what happened. They drop their weapons and talk, in
the end they go their separate ways.
PLOT SYNOPSIS
5. One of the key scenes is where Ursula changes as a person now she is queen
of the sea, at the beginning of this scene, the camera scrolls over the island/
sea and we see it become dark, the beautiful nature becomes dark only a few
lights illuminate the sea/ island, the sea becomes rough and the sky becomes
grey, to help do this there would be a lot of editing, and CGI to help film for
instance the editing would be used for when the scenery changes to a dark
atmosphere, when the sea and the sky also turns dark, the editing would help
cut to each part from the bird eye view of the sea turning dark, to the
nightlife, creatures and plants changing then it would cut o the sea becoming
rough, this would be don through CGI to help make the sea rough and
violent.
KEY SCENE ONE
6. The second key scene is when the sea creatures discover the reasons behind
Ursula’s change this scene is set down under the sea in a cave of the former
king where the creatures look through his personal possessions and discover a
diary where he wrote to his dead wife which helped him cope, he spoke about
Ursula getting pregnant and he sent the baby away, he spoke about the baby
and where he sent her, this is where the sea creatures realize Ariel is Ursula’s
daughter. In this scene there is a lot of technical detail involved for instance
the use of CGI to help create the mystical creatures and the setting of the
cave under the sea would help create the mystical affect. The use of non
Diegetic sound for the music played, and the voice over of the king reading
his diary and the voices of the mystical creatures. The use of editing would
help cut back to flash backs as they read the diary.
KEY SCENE 2
7. The third key scene would be the fight at the end where Ariel and Ursula go
to fight however Ursula doesn’t want to fight, in this scene Ariel learns Ursula
is her mother and learns why she was given away. This scene will have a lot of
CGI and editing in the scene as it is the fight. The CGI would be used for the
sea where Ursula materializes rom it and also uses as a weapon and also to
change Ariel into a women from a mermaid at the end so the CGI would be
used to create the mystical affect. . The editing would be used at each shot at
the fight when they fight each other this will help provide the mystical affect.
In this scene the diegetic sound would be the speech, the non diegetic sound
would be the sound waves and music that is put into the scene.
KEY SCENE 3
8. The core audience would be teenagers at the age of 12-18 maybe who enjoy
watching fantasy movies as this film is fantasy with the mystical creatures the
powers involved and the basis of it being an adaptation from the classical
Disney film, these fans would also preferably be fans of similar movies like
Harry Potter and Marvel as it is full of action with the fight and war between
the two sides and also because it has the magic element to the film as well like
Harry Potter and Marvel. A secondary audience may also be Young adults who
have seen the original Disney adaptation when they were children and may
want to see it again but it being different to the original as it may interest their
audience type as some young adults enjoy fantasy films and actions ones like
Harry Potter and Marvel.
CORE AND SECONDARY
AUDIENCE
9. Constraints: Typical issues may arise that would make it difficult for this adaptation to
become successful for instance the Budget, with all the technical stunts involved, the props
and cost of the technical resources may cause the budget to be bigger and the production
company might not be able to afford that so the film would be limited to what it can do
using the technical resources making it less successful. In addition ethical issues may arise
because the film overs certain topics like giving your child away this may cause ethical
concerns for people with different beliefs and therefore would cause the film to be less
successful. In addition another constraint would be that is an adaptation of an existing txt
and people may not be convinced it is a successful adaptation and therefore would prevent
the film becoming as successful as it could.
Opportunities: Although the technical resources is used as a constraint, it could also be an
opportunity for this adaptation to become a success as the technical things that are involved
help create the mystical affect for the film which people would enjoy watching in the film
and helps make the film more appealing. In addition the ethical concern of giving your
child away could also actually be an opportunity for the film to be a success as the audience
may like the fact that even though Ursula was forced to give her child away they reunited in
the end this aspect may appeal to the audience that there was a happy outcome.
