Lisfranc injuries involve dislocations of the tarsometatarsal joints of the midfoot. They are named after Jacques Lisfranc de St. Martin, a French surgeon from the 1800s. Clinically, patients experience midfoot pain made worse with weight bearing and stress tests of the midfoot. Imaging like x-rays can reveal misalignments of bones in the midfoot. Treatment may involve casting without weight bearing for non-surgical cases or surgery to realign bones with internal fixation for more severe injuries.
