Bio Data World - The promise of FAIR data lakes - The Hyve - 20191204Kees van Bochove
At the Bio Data World conference in Basel in December 2019, Kees van Bochove, Founder of The Hyve gave a talk on re-use of pharma R&D data, and what strategies could be used to realize operationalization of FAIR data at scale.
The role of FAIRsharing in assessing FAIRness of digital objects: we assist, not assess. The workshop brought together a number of FAIR evaluation tools to discuss and design common FAIR tests to ensure tools deliver consistet results. Our presentation illustrates how FAIRsharing's content helps and how FAIRsharing's service contributes. The work will contribute to the work of the EOSC FAIR Metrics Task Force.
The FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) Guiding Principles light a path towards improving the discovery and reuse of digital objects (data, documents, software, web services, etc) by machines. Machine reusability is a crucial strategic component in building robust digital infrastructure that strengthens scholarship and opens new pathways for innovation on a truly global scale. However, as the FAIR principles do not specify any particular implementation, communities have the homework to devise, standardize and implement technical specifications to improve the ‘FAIRness’ of digital assets. In this seminar, I will focus on the history and state of the art in the FAIRness assessment, including manual, semi-automated and fully automated approaches, and how these can be used by developers and consumers alike. This seminar will serve as a springboard for community discussion and adoption of these services to incrementally and realistically improve the FAIRness of their resources.
ASIDIC Spring Meeting, Las Vegas, NV March 2008. This presentation presents the challenges for the researcher, publisher and the library as their collective worlds are constantly colliding as the need to be published, to maintain the subscription model
Presentation to the EOSC workshop on policies (https://www.google.com/url?q=https://eoscfuture.eu/eventsfuture/monitoring-eosc-readiness-fair-data-policies) on what FAIRsharing does for policies, including providing registration, discovery, flexible and clearer descriptions, relationships, machine readability and comparability.

Life Technologies' Journey to the Cloud (ENT208) | AWS re:Invent 2013Amazon Web Services
Life Technologies initially planned to build out its own data center infrastructure, but when a cost analysis revealed that by using Amazon Web Services the company would save $325,000 in hardware alone for a single new initiative, the company decided to use AWS instead. Within 6 months of adopting AWS, Life Technologies launched their Digital Hub platform in production, which now undergirds Life Technologies' entire instrumentation product suite. This immediately began to decrease their time-to-market and enhance their customers' user experience. In this session, we provide an overview of our path to the AWS cloud, with particular focus on the evaluation criteria used to make a cloud vendor decision. We also discuss the lessons learned since going into production.

Information technology helps healthcare organizations in providing better services to patients and making better decisions. Some of the technologies like e-prescriptions, electronic transactions, and electronic medical records help in increasing the business functionality, removes data ambiguities, reduces the time of staff and physicians and enhances the relationship between the organization and patients. IT provides the ability to measure and monitor patients’ health and provides better analytics to physicians.

Open Source Collaboration in Drug Discovery in PharmaKees van Bochove
How pre-competitive collaboration in the pharmaceutical sector through open source platforms enables joint innovation of academics, pharma, SMEs and non-profits.
Using open technology, including smart phone apps, wearables (such as watches) and a dedicated website, myHealth will let patients and their carers manage health data integrated with other sources of open data to help them identify, monitor and track their own disease progression on a day-to-day basis, collaborating with clinicians and researchers to find new ways to fight diseases.

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

Kubernetes & AI - Beauty and the Beast !?! @KCD Istanbul 2024Tobias Schneck
As AI technology is pushing into IT I was wondering myself, as an “infrastructure container kubernetes guy”, how get this fancy AI technology get managed from an infrastructure operational view? Is it possible to apply our lovely cloud native principals as well? What benefit’s both technologies could bring to each other?
Let me take this questions and provide you a short journey through existing deployment models and use cases for AI software. On practical examples, we discuss what cloud/on-premise strategy we may need for applying it to our own infrastructure to get it to work from an enterprise perspective. I want to give an overview about infrastructure requirements and technologies, what could be beneficial or limiting your AI use cases in an enterprise environment. An interactive Demo will give you some insides, what approaches I got already working for real.
