What is an Expansion Joint

 In building construction, an expansion joint is a mid-structure separation
designed to relieve stress on building materials caused by building movement
induced by:
– Thermal expansion and contraction caused by temperature changes
– Sway caused by wind
– Seismic events
 Because the joint separates the entire structure, it marks a gap through all
building assemblies such as walls, floors, roofs, decks, planters, etc. This gap
must be filled to restore the waterproofing, fire proofing, sound proofing, air
barrier, roof membrane, trafficable surface and other functions of the building
elements it bisects.

17. STONE AND TILE MOVEMENT JOINTS
 Movement joints must be installed in certain areas and positions to prevent
tiles or grout from cracking and in some cases prevent the tiles from tenting
and becoming de-bonded from the substrate.
 A movement joint is the interruption of the surface to allow for movement.
They are needed because all tiles expand and contract with temperature and

Zettex Europe BV was established in 1990 and was born of a German-English
business that specialized primarily in the automotive market. As a result of a
takeover in 2001, the company received a large product range of adhesives,
