Li-Fi is a wireless optical network technology that uses LEDs to transmit data faster than the human eye can perceive, offering a fast and cost-effective communication system based on visible light communication. Invented by Professor Harald Haas in 2011, Li-Fi aims to enable data transmission for laptops and mobile devices through light. Applications of Li-Fi technology include traffic lights, aircraft cabins, underwater communication, and street lights.

Prof. Harald Hass
LI-FI invented by German
Physicist Harald Hass, from
the University of Edinburgh,
U.K.
In the year 2011 he first
introduced to the world this
new technology.
He envisions a future where
data for laptops and other
mobile devices is transmitted
through a light in a room.

5. WORKING
Operational procedure is very simple.
If the LED is ON, you transmit a
digital 1.
If the LED is OFF, you transmit a
digital 0.
The LED’s can switched ON and OFF
very quickly, which gives nice
opportunities for transmitting data.
