News report on a Liberal Democrats campaign
http://www.libdems.org.uk/home.aspx

Hello and welcome to the daily news with me, Zahra Printer. Today I will be discussing
with you about the Liberal Democrats which is a political party. Fighting for them is Nick
Clegg who was elected the leader of this campaign in 2007 in which they believe in the
rights on the law, the distribution of wealth, cultural and civil liberties.

-The Liberal Democrats quote that they „exist to build and safeguard a fair, free and
open society, in which they seek to balance the important values of freedom, equality
and community, and in which no one should be suffering by poverty or ignorance‟. They
aim to focus on the freedom, dignity and well-being of individuals. The Liberal
Democrats acknowledge and respect their right to freedom and their right to develop
their talents to the full. They aim to disperse power, to foster diversity and to nurture
creativity. They believe that the role of the state is to enable everyone to have their
rights and for everyone to contribute fully to their communities and to take part in the
decisions which affect their lives.

-The target audience for their campaign is very broad to anyone over the age of 18.
However, in order to get the best outcomes from their campaigns they aim to individual
target groups, for example: individuals, families, couples, children and even their
schools.

Broadly the liberal democrats aim at the community as a whole and believe try to unite
the community as one by bringing everyone together. For them to achieve this they
needed to focus on local support rather than governmental issues. They believe that it‟s
important to help support the individual‟s so they can physically see the change
happening. This would include social housing issues resolved, transportation issues and
much more.

They have focused a lot on children and what the liberal democrats can do
to help them as they are what will become our new generation sooner or
later. They aim to spend around 7 billion for poorest children and children
from disadvantaged backgrounds to get a better education and a better life
in general. The Lib Dems want to have more one to one teaching classes whilst also
reducing the class sizes and making teaching hours much longer. They believe all these
factors will have a very positive effect on children in school but, how easy will it be too
take place?

The liberal democrats aim to also help out families particularly financially. They want to
start with the families at the lower end of the economy and help them work their way up
slowly. They believe this can be done by starting with the lowering of taxes. In general
they want to offer support to millions of families financial for example those in debt or
needing help with unaffordable mortgages. They believe if they start with the local
issues, it will then have a bit impact on a wider audience.
-One method that they have used for this campaign is a by making a Facebook page so
viewers are able to keep track of what is going on within the campaign and find out daily
information. Here they have clearly inserted various images which are appropriate for
this campaign and may show various elections, speeches or meeting. Also videos are
being uploaded about various things such as someone‟s positive views on the campaign,
the reader can also post any comments they may want to about what they
have just seen and they can past any queries they may have towards them.
They update daily, keeping the public up to date on exactly what is
happening within the political party.

Another method they have used to promote their campaign is by creating smaller
campaign within the Lib Dems for specific topic. One of these smaller campaigns they
have created is called „Save Monet, Stay Warm, Go Green‟. This Campaign is particularly
aimed at the local community; the Lib Dems have stated that have three first stages for
this campaign:

   • To help increase awareness and take up of energy saving insulation schemes
   • To make sure older people are getting the help they need to keep warm this
       winter
   • To give everyone practical advice to save money, stay warm and go green.

They have used leaflets, doorstep materials and articles to help with this campaign but
their main source is through their website. Here is a very short clip of exactly is taking
place and how it will benefit the public.

Their main method for this campaign has to be there website. Within this
website they have included everything someone could possibly want to
know about this campaign. They have inserted their logo on the top left
hand corner which stands out to viewers as this specifically associates
with the Liberal Democrats and is used throughout all their method of
campaigning. They have included links to various other webpages in
which the viewer can clearly use taking then to many pages from finding
out information to how they can get involved. They have included a slide at the top of
the page which changes every now and then to another page each viewing different
topics within the campaign. They have used the same colour scheme of yellow and blue
throughout the website in which they have chosen to use these colours as there theme
throughout the campaigning process. They have used clear, simple sub titles such as
„Get Involved‟ and „Who we are‟. These are made to stand out dragging the reader‟s
attention. On the right hand side they have clear boxes in which anyone can sign up for
any updates they may want or even type in their postcode to find their nearest party.
They also have links to many social networks from „Facebook‟ to Twitter and even
YouTube in which anyone can keep track of their progress and any news daily as these
are easily accessible and used often. Lastly, at the bottom of the page they have even
included individual photos of the Lib Dems themselves with hyperlinks to their own page
in which you can find out more about them as a person.

-There have been many successes to the Liberal Democrats campaign in which they
have mainly affected the local public.

As you can see from the image the Liberal Democrats
celebrate a 0% Council Tax rise and a successful
amendment of the local budget, this is not the only
change that has taken place. (Here I have included
the website in which it shows the Liberal Democrats
successes and how they pursue to make greater
changes).http://www.readinglibdems.org.uk/

Nick Clegg is also trying to partnership with
organisation to help teenagers in schools. This is a
quote from the man himself. “Many of them will have complex problems: truancy,
teenage pregnancy, a lack of GCSEs and health problems. So helping them onto their
feet will not be without challenges and Government cannot do this alone. But we all have
a duty to reach out to the young people who can be hardest to reach. That‟s why today I
am calling on charities and other organisations at the coal face to work with Government
to help tens of thousands of lost teenagers onto a brighter path.”

They also joined In partnership with „Being‟ saying that they are there digital partner. By
doing this there votes have increased as „Being‟ have been able to work with them on
various marketing techniques. Social media integration also played a significant role in
allowing community groups to build a voice and engage with the party. You Tube,
Facebook and a Ning based community site have been integrated, building on the power
and support of social networks. (Here I have included the website in which you can read
into the partnership with „Being‟ in a lot more
detail).http://www.beingonline.co.uk/casestudy-libdems.aspx

Two and a half years on since the campaign first begun and The Liberal Democrats are
celebrating the party‟s achievements in government. Nick Cleggtells the Independent
that “Liberal Democrat fingerprints” are all over flagship association policies on schools,
welfare, pensions, banking reform and the NHS reforms.

Through their success of their campaign they have had a massive increase in the amount
of people that are supporting their campaign therefore; the public believes that the Lib
Dems are becoming successful in what they promise to do for the public.
