There are three stages that most people go through: 1) Looking good, where one tries to show others that they are good or better than others by boasting about their qualifications, skills, possessions, and social circles. 2) Feeling good, where one feels good by showing off to others or takes steps to feel good regardless of what others think. 3) Being good, which is the most important but difficult stage, where one simply "is good" without needing to show off or spend money on rituals and practices, but rather achieves inner calmness regardless of external disturbances.
