LEVELS OF ORGANIZATION
BY MOMINA ASHFAQ
What are levels of organization?
Levels of organization are structures in nature,
usually defined by part-whole relationships,
with things at higher levels being composed of
things at the next lower level.
Let’s talk about different levels of
organization!
ATOMIC OR SUB-ATOMIC LEVEL
• Each and every living and nonliving matter is
structured by simple units called atoms and
sub atomic particles such as electrons,
protons & neutrons.
• Atomic level is the smallest
Level in a living body.
Cells
• Cells are the basic building blocks of living
things. The human body is composed of
trillions of cells, all with their own specialised
function. Cells are the basic structures of all
living organisms. Cells provide structure for
the body, take in nutrients from food and
carry out important functions.
Cells Detailed Diagram
Tissues
• Tissue arising chiefly from the embryonic
mesoderm that is characterized by a highly
vascular matrix and includes collagenous,
elastic, and reticular fibers, adipose tissue,
cartilage, and bone. It forms the supporting
and connecting structures of the body.
• Different cells combine to form tissues
Types of 4 Basic Tissues
• The human body contains more than 200
types of cells that can all be classified into four
types of
tissues: epithelial, connective, muscle, and
nervous. Epithelial tissues act as coverings
controlling the movement of materials across
the surface.

Organs
• Organs are the body's recognizable structures
(for example, the heart, lungs, liver, eyes, and
stomach) that perform specific functions.
An organ is made of several types of tissue
and therefore several types of cells.
Several organs Diagram
Organ Systems
• An organ system is a group of organs that
work together to perform a certain function in
an organism's body. Most animals and plants
have organs, which are self-contained groups
of tissues such as the heart that work
together to perform one function. Humans
and other mammals have many organ
systems.
Different Organ Systems
An Organism
• An organism is a single individual, or being.
While it may have many separate parts,
the organism cannot survive without the
parts, as the parts cannot survive without
the organism.
• An organism is the final/last level of levels of
organization
