Our target audience

Educainglés is a website providing resources of Agence Frances Presse (AFP) for the
teachers and students. This portal was created by teachers to allow an access to
authentic documents drawn from current events.

Educainglés offers to language academies, high schools, universities, teachers, students
and families a useful new tool to learn and teach English.

An Innovative Educational Approach

Educainglés provides an innovative collection of educational resources that
complements all English teaching methods. Educainglés contributes to the development
and diffusion of the English language.

Each day, Educainglés receives information flows from AFP. Each flow is processed,
sorted and finally classified into the corresponding categories and themes. It is then
possible to use it for educational purposes. These resources come with the Agence
France Presse guarantee of outstanding editorial and technical quality.

We offer 4 types of educational resources in order to make teachers' lives easier while
providing them with the widest range possible of materials:

       - News articles (pdf and txt format)
       - Video reports and coverage ( format )with transcripts (pdf and txt format)
       - Infographics
       - Animations (flash format

All resources can be downloaded, printed and used but remain under copyright by AFP.
It also allows a progressive adaptation to the newest technological advances.
Educainglés and these educational approaches complement already existing tools and do
not replace the teachers' methods.

A specific classification was created to help teachers search for English as a Foreign
Language (EFL), bilingual schools and european sections using the CLIL methodology.
This search is performed faster by:

       - resource type
       - category (news, economy, society ...)
       - academic subject
       - level (A, B, C) cf. the Common European Framework of Reference
       - date
       - key word(s)

This classification is also useful for English or bilingual schools.

Below is a description of the 4 resources types:
Animations. These are dynamic graphs in Flash. It is the perfect way to illustrate
information through dynamic and interactive content. Each month about 30 new
animations are posted on the web site

Infographics. We have post 80 new infographics published each month. An
infographic is a static graph which allows the teacher to clearly illustrate and
explain visually complex information. Infographics complement the classes
through their visual content and encourage learners to speak in a more
         spontaneous fashion.

Videos. AFPTV produces video coverage and in-depth reports for a wide range
of themes. Each month, 60 new videos become available for teachers. These
videos allow student to completely immerse themselves in the English language
and international news in English. With the videos, teacher can evaluate and
increase the listening comprehension and vocabulary range of their students.
Each video has a transcript available in pdf and txt formats.

News articles. In this section dedicated to reading and reading comprehension,
we offer articles with photos available in pdf and txt formats. The news themes
and in-depth reports offer an interesting option for the teachers in the preparation
         of their classes.

Teacher's section

This section offers pedagogical experiences and lessons plans to work with the
Educainglés' resources in the classroom. All experiences are classified by
category.Levels

Educainglés sorts all resources, lesson plans and exercises by levels. For practical
reasons, the simplified global scale is used: A (basic), B (independent) and C
(proficiency).

As a complement to these levels, resources are also organized by target audience and by
category. This allows teachers to easily find the resources which best fit the level and
interests of their students.>

What is the CEFR?

The "Common European Framework of Reference: Learning, Teaching and
Assessment" is the result of a linguistics study carried out by experts from the Council
of Europe. Published in 2001, the aim of the document was to help teachers to describe
the levels of proficiency required by existing tests and examinations in order to facilitate
the comparison between different qualification systems. Using this study, the Council of
Europe created a framework of common reference levels.

A consensus was reached in the number and nature of the levels needed to organize the
field of language learning.

The levels
The scheme proposed in the Common European Framework of Reference proposes an
initial division into 3 broad levels:

These six levels correspond the classic division into basic, intermediate and advanced
levesl.

This simple global scale makes it easier to explain the levels to non-specialists and
provides a point of reference for teachers and curriculum planners.

        Proficient User:

C2 Can understand with ease virtually everything heard or read. Can summarise
information from different spoken and written sources, reconstructing arguments
and accounts in a coherent presentation. Can express him/herself spontaneously,
very fluently and precisely, differentiating finer shades of meaning even in more
        complex situations.

C1 Can understand a wide range of demanding, longer texts, and recognise implicit
meaning. Can express him/herself fluently and spontaneously without much
obvious searching for expressions. Can use language flexibly and effectively for
social, academic and professional purposes. Can produce clear, well-structured,
detailed text on complex subjects, showing controlled use of organizational
        patterns, connectors and cohesive devices.

        Independent User

B2 Can understand the main ideas of complex text on both concrete and abstract
topics, including technical discussions in his/her field of specialisation. Can
interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular interaction
with native speakers quite possible without strain for either party. Can produce
clear, detailed text on a wide range of subjects and explain a viewpoint on a
topical issue giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options.

B1 Can understand the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters
regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc. Can deal with most situations
likely to arise whilst travelling in an area where the language is spoken. Can
produce simple connected text on topics which are familiar or of personal interest.
Can describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes & ambitions and briefly give
reasons and explanations for opinions and plans.

        Basic User
A2 Can understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of most
immediate relevance (e.g. very basic personal and family information, shopping,
local geography, employment). Can communicate in simple and routine tasks
requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine
matters. Can describe in simple terms aspects of his/her background, immediate
environment and matters in areas of immediate need.

A1 Can understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases
aimed at the satisfaction of needs of a concrete type. Can introduce him/herself
and others and can ask and answer questions about personal details such as where
he/she lives, people he/she knows and things he/she has. Can interact in a simple
way provided the other person talks slowly and clearly and is prepared to help.

For the learner, a detailed version of this general view can be seen in the Self-
Assessment Grid which shows the main skills found in each of the six levels.
