2. SIMPLE PAST: AFFIRMATIVE
• I painted a graffiti on the wall yesterday.
• I took the bus to downtown.
• Mishell wrote a love letter.
• We drank beers last week.
• He loved to listen to reggaeton.
We used Simple Past for an action that already happened. This action began in the
past and ended in the past.
3. REGULAR AND IRREGULAR VERBS
Regular verbs: add –ed to the verb Irregular verbs: see the list in your book
Love – loved Be – was/were
Help – helped Speak – spoke
Walk – walked Write – wrote
Paint – painted Sing – sang
Lock - locked Swim – swam
Erase – erased Put – put

4. SIMPLE PAST: NEGATIVE
• Add didn’t to the affirmative sentence to create negative.
Positive Negative
I cleaned the house yesterday. I didn’t clean the house yesterday.
Linda wrote a book. Linda didn’t write a book.
Tom erased the board. Tom didn’t erase the board.
She taught English.
He thought about his homework.
We swam for 3 hours.
5. SIMPLE PAST: QUESTIONS
Use did (auxiliary) at the beginning of the question.
• Ex.:
• Did you read the book?
• Did you study English?
• Did you take a picture?
In Simple Past questions, we write the auxiliary at the beginning and the verb in base
form.
6. READING ACTIVITY
• In groups, students read “The First Fire Company” book. Pre-reading: Ss will look at
the pictures in the book to figure out the topic. Reading: Ss will identify and
underline verbs in simple past. Post – Reading: After that, they will categorize verbs
between regular and irregular verbs in a chart.
• In groups, orally Ss will re-tell the story to their friends using L1 to help them
understand the books topic. Then, they will write a collaborative summary using
simple past and their own words.
• Finally, Ss will answer comprehension questions to review (Simple Past: yes/no and
information questions )
7. COMPREHENSION QUESTIONS
