3. 1.0 Meaning
• Creativity comes from the
Latin term creō", "to
create, make".
• “Original writing that
expresses ideas and
thoughts in an imaginative
way”.
• It's the "art of making
things up"

4. 1.1 Sigmund Freud
What we require is
the desire to create
daydreams and
ability to express in
words.
Imaginative power
is the key.
6. 2.0 Practice the Craft
• Writing is a skill, and like any skill, you must practice it constantly
if you want to be any good at it. You need to practice with focus.
7. 2.1 Someone I
admire:
Duplicate the
profession referred in
the passage with
other such
professions as singer,
player, painter, etc
and person as
brother, uncle, friend,
etc.
• Someone I admire is my cousin Laura. She’s five
years older than me, so she’s 19 now and she lives
in Bristol. She’s very friendly and confident and she’s
got long, wavy, brown hair and greeny-brown eyes.
She’s medium height, slim and very fit because she’s
a dancer.
• She’s been dancing since she was six years old and
trains every day at her dance school. She wants to
be a professional dancer, but it’s a very difficult
profession because it’s so competitive. She often
dances in shows and I’ve been to watch her several
times. Her favourite type of dance is modern, which
is sometimes a bit strange, but I love watching her
dance.
8. 2.1
Someone
I admire
• Laura is very busy because she also studies
photography at university. She’s a really
good photographer and has taken lots of
amazing photos of me and my family. Her photos
have won a few prizes and last year one of her
photos was in an exhibition at an art gallery
in London.
• Laura doesn’t have a lot of free time and she’s also
trying to learn German because she wants to go to
Germany next year to do a photography course. I
think Laura is very hard-working and she deserves to
become a professional dancer one day.

9. Predator Version
• Someone I admire is my friend, JK. He is ten years younger than I, so
he is 45 now and he lives in Malana. He’s very approachable and
assertive and he’s got short, straight, black hair and blue eyes. He’s
tall, strong and very fit because he’s a plumber.
• He’s been working as a plumber since he was 25 years old and works
every day in his village. He wants to be a skilled plumber, but it’s a
very difficult profession because it’s so competitive. He often works in
factories and I’ve seen him travel to nearby towns often. His favourite
area of work is agricultural field, which is sometimes a bit less
lucrative, but he loves doing it and I too admire him.....................
• What is found lacking here is imagination. A local habitation and a name find a place.
10. Shakespeare's A
Midsummer Night's Dream
• The lunatic, the lover and the poet
• Are of imagination all compact:
• One sees more devils than vast hell can hold,
• That is, the madman: the lover, all is frantic,
• Sees Helen’s beauty in a brow of Egypt:
• The poet’s eye, in fine frenzy rolling,
• Doth glance from heaven to earth, from earth to heaven;
• And as imagination bodies forth
• The forms of things unknown, the poet’s pen
• Turns them to shapes and gives to airy nothing
• A local habitation and a name.

14. 3.0 Write without
Rules
Let’s write without rules. But first,
we must think about WHAT to
write about. What we need is an
idea to get you going. Any idea will
do. As long as you find it
interesting, that’s the key.

15. 3.1 Non-Stop Writing
• You need to possess a pen, a note pad and relaxed mind
set.
• The instructions to be followed are
• For the next ten minutes, you have to write on anything you
are interested in at the moment of the activity
• Once you start writing, you have to write continuously
without lifting your pen.
• The writing is not meant for sharing with anyone.
• You do not have to pay too much attention to the spelling,
right word in the right place, grammatical structure as it is
written only for you.
16. 3.2 Brainstorm for ideas
• One of ways in which you can develop
creative writing skill is to brainstorm for
ideas on a certain topic.
• Can you do so on “The Uses of
Newspapers”? There could be as many
as thirty ideas or even more.
• You may begin your answer like this:
• We use newspapers to collect
information, cover the bookshelf
…………..
• All that we require is ideas, thoughts,
information, data, etc.

18. 4.1 Creative Story
I am blind by birth. When I was 8 years old, I
wanted to play baseball. I asked my father-
"Dad, can I play baseball?" He said "You'll never
know until you try." When I was a teenager, I
asked him, - "Dad Can I become a surgeon?".
He replied "Son, you'll never know until you
try." Today I am a Surgeon, just because I tried!

19. 4.2 Complete the Story
• A boy who was the son of a fisherman lived happily in
Chibu, a fishing village. He used to go to neighboring
village by cycle to attend his school. One day, he found
an old man lying unconscious on the road. Taking pity
on the man, the boy took him to the nearest hospital in
the neighboring village.
• When the doctor enquired the boy of the man’s
background and his relationship with him, he said that
he did not know anything about the old man. Further,
he introduced himself as Ali, son of Mustafa who was a
rich man in Chibu, as he felt bad of his humble family
background. Then he left the hospital…….

• Reading with focus leads to writing and listening
too.
20. 5.0 Workshop it
• The writing workshop gives you a chance to
develop your work alongside other writers,
sharing, critiquing, and revising with the goal of
improving your work and your skills.
• However, you aren’t obligated to take every bit of
advice that is given to you, nor need you sound
like someone else in order to be successful.
• The key is to be open, and to treat the creative
process as a dialogue.

21. 5.1 Adjectives add Interest
• It was a day. The alarm rang. I jumped out of bed and got dressed. I put on a pair of pants
and a shirt. I added some socks and shoes, and then I was almost ready to leave. I drank
some juice in a cup and ate a piece of toast. I hurried out the door to go to school.
• I ran to my class in a building on the campus. There were students in my class. I sat next
to one. I wrote in my notebook and on the board. I looked at my books, pens, and
pencils. Later, I got paper and paint from the cupboard to make a project. The teacher
gave us homework.
• After school, I walked home through the neighborhood. The boys yelled to me. I went
into my house to do my homework. I finished in two hours. I played with the kids until
dinner.
• One step at a time is advantageous
22. 6. 0 Revise! Revise! Revise!
• Rarely will your writing be “right” the first
time. Sometimes you fail, but much more
often, you simply need to revise… again and
again. It can be tedious, but it’s a necessary
part of the craft. Learn to revise. Take a step
back from your work and approach it with a
critical eye. Take advice and input from
others. Be ready to make substantial revisions
in the pursuit of creative writing.

Remember
• Let us celebrate small
successes.
• Let us keep in mind the advice
of Susan Sontag who wrote in
her diary:
• “Writing is a little door. Some
fantasies, like big pieces of
furniture, won’t come
through.”
