What do our students need to learn to be productive in the workplace, to get a job, what skills do they need? The workplace has changed, leadership has changed, and the future is collaboration. This presentation will discuss the methods and tools used in two online project classes. We will show you how we take our learning outcomes and design online classes to simulate a workplace environment. These courses are designed to give students the most realistic workplace environment that we can in an academic setting. One course teaches Emerging Technologies by using teamwork and collaboration environments. The other course uses the System Development Lifecycle as a guide for students to complete an individual project with feedback and brainstorming from other students. The goals for the session are: demonstrating and discussing collaboration, showing how to include useful teamwork in an online environment, working as a collective team, sharing information and knowledge, encouraging suggestions and ideas, brainstorming, building in frustration on purpose, using peer feedback in projects, enabling team resources, and embracing roles and responsibilities. Attendees will walk away with a template of how to design a course for a workplace environment while meeting the learning objectives of the course.

Here are a few tips for conducting a successful Community Dialogue:
- Invite a diverse group of community stakeholders - include representatives from schools, afterschool programs, civic groups, businesses, healthcare organizations, etc. The goal is to get input from people who can help you reach and engage underserved audiences.
- Clearly communicate the purpose and goals upfront. Explain that you want an open discussion to understand community needs and how the library can better serve them.
- Ask open-ended questions to spark discussion. For example, "What STEM opportunities do you think are lacking for youth in our community?"
- Actively listen without being defensive. Thank people for their honest feedback.

Presented at the Anthology – Innovate & Educate Australia – 2023. In this presentation I’ll lay foundation of the role academic integrity plays in relation to Generative AI and what this means for authentic assessment.
It will then provide examples of some contemporary approaches to the use of Generative AI in Assessment, from across the sector and,
in this particular case, we will consider what this might look in the Ultra platform.
I’ll provide a sector perspective as to what 34 of our Australian Uni’s are doing in relation to this. Based on the findings of a very recent sector-wide survey of Directors of TEL, conducted under the auspices of ACODE.

Apache Student Induction ApacheCon 2013
The success of the Google Summer of Code program within ASF demonstrates the interest and potential impact Apache projects could have on grooming next generation software developers. Many projects have benefited from the GSoC contributions and some have succeeded in retaining the students as active PMC members. While GSoC is a good vehicle for potential student committers, we could extend the impact and broaden the reach. Beyond GSoC, currently there is no compelling mechanism for interested students to venture into the 150+ Apache project issue trackers to find out an interesting topic to contribute. We propose to build on the GSoC success and create a common forum for PMC’s to propose topics and volunteer to mentor well defined and suitably scoped student research projects. These student projects create a win-win situation for both the Apache projects and the students.
As an exemplar, we will discuss the Apache Airavata project engagement with student academic projects. The globally distributed locations of PMC members of the Apache Airavata project has resulted in the successful launch of many student research projects in the US, Indian and Sri Lanka. Brief descriptions of the projects, their inclusion within existing university curricula and their successes and challenges will be presented. We will then elaborate on how these experiences can be generalized and modeled as a systematic mechanism to catalyze student research projects. While particularly sharing the experiences from developing countries, we discuss how these ideas are globally applicable in exposing students to the ASF model, enabling them to discuss their ideas and work with leading researchers and open source developers around the world, motivating them through virtual hackathons and eventually creating potential pathways to Apache Committership.
The proposed effort raises many open questions. However, initiated through this talk, we would like to hear feedback from Apache projects and the user community and take the idea further with the Apache Community Development PMC.
Breaking the Code Handout from Tech Expo 2015
This document summarizes a presentation about starting an elementary school coding initiative in the Lakeland Central School District. It discusses how the initiative began in 2013-2014 through tech expos and curriculum development. In 2014-2015 they launched their program, selecting students by lottery and using Scratch curriculum. Benefits included supporting common core, providing a fun way for students to learn logical thinking and technology literacy. Project ace for corporates
Project ACE aims to develop students through coding classes and microconsulting projects to solve school and community problems. It serves 30 students from a low-performing vocational school, selecting those from low-income households. The program impacts English, coding skills, numeracy, STEM interest, life skills, and more. Sony Malaysia conducted an Arduino workshop for students like Harry, who hopes to become an engineer. Project ACE needs computers, funding, and role models to inspire students. Support is requested through workshops, mentoring, donations, and sponsorship.

STEAM education is an interdisciplinary approach that combines Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics. It helps children develop skills needed for our increasingly technological society. STEAM brings together subjects that were traditionally taught separately to show how they interconnect. Activities planned with the STEAM approach are fun, educational, and promote skills like critical thinking. Implementing STEAM links to curriculum standards and reflects real-world problem solving. Creating a toy truck, for example, requires multiple engineers like mechanical, chemical, electrical, transportation, structural, and packaging engineers who each contribute their expertise.

A presentation on what authentic assessment may look like in a post ChatGPT world. Presented on the 26 July to an Educational Design Workshop held at Charles Darwin University. His ten priorities for assessment include:
- Reduce emphasis on final high-stakes exams
- Reduce propensity for wide-spread quizzes for key assessments
- Look for opportunities for program-wide assessments (alignment across units)
- Weight assessment aligned with level of learning
- Increase emphasis on formative feedback for learning (feedback literacy)
- Designing active, collaborative, authentic assessment

Starting a code Club proposal

Sony Malaysia conducted an Arduino workshop for students like Harry, who hopes to become an engineer. Project ACE needs computers, funding, and role models to inspire students. Support is requested through workshops, mentoring, donations, and sponsorship.

It helps children develop skills needed for our increasingly technological society. STEAM brings together subjects that were traditionally taught separately to show how they interconnect. Activities planned with the STEAM approach are fun, educational, and promote skills like critical thinking. Implementing STEAM links to curriculum standards and reflects real-world problem solving. Creating a toy truck, for example, requires multiple engineers like mechanical, chemical, electrical, transportation, structural, and packaging engineers who each contribute their expertise.

A presentation on what authentic assessment may look like in a post ChatGPT world. Presented on the 26 July to an Educational Design Workshop held at Charles Darwin University. His ten priorities for assessment include:
- Reduce emphasis on final high-stakes exams
- Reduce propensity for wide-spread quizzes for key assessments
- Look for opportunities for program-wide assessments (alignment across units)
- Weight assessment aligned with level of learning
- Increase emphasis on formative feedback for learning (feedback literacy)
- Designing active, collaborative, authentic assessment
- Increase the use of WIL, group and peer assessment
- Increase ‘assessment for inclusion’
Increased use of multimodal assessment
- Reduce essays and long form text that can be easily cheated

The empty number line method helps children visualize and record the steps in a calculation. Different strategies like splitting numbers into tens and ones are demonstrated on empty number lines and discussed among children.

Number bonds help students develop math skills by showing how numbers can be split and combined. In early primary years, number bonds up to 10 are taught to build number sense needed for addition and subtraction. As students progress, they learn number bonds for larger numbers up to 1000. Regular practice of number bonds at home through games helps reinforce these foundational math skills.

- Maths Mastery is a new approach to teaching mathematics that comes from high-performing Asian countries like Singapore. It is based on the belief that all children can learn maths.
- Under this approach, the entire class works on the same topics and problems at the same pace, rather than some children moving ahead while others get left behind. Extra support is provided to struggling students and challenging extensions are given to advanced students.
- Mistakes are seen as opportunities to learn rather than failures. Speed is less important than understanding mathematical concepts.
