LET US…
Hebrews 4:11-16 Let us therefore be diligent to
enter that rest, lest anyone fall according to the
same example of disobedience. 12 For the word of
God is living and powerful, and sharper than any
two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of
soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a
discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
13 And there is no creature hidden from His sight,
but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him
to whom we must give account. 14 Seeing then that
we have a great High Priest who has passed through
the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast
our confession. 15 For we do not have a High Priest
who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but
was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.
16 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of
grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to
help in time of need.
A. In a previous sermon, we looked at the “Let us”
scriptures in the book of Hebrews.
B. There are 13 of those “Let us” scriptures in
Hebrews.
C. Today we want to look at 13 “Let us” scriptures in
other New Testament letters.
D. Two of those in the NT are things we should not
do. They say, “If certain things were true then we
had just as well do those things.
1. 1 Corinthians 15:32 If, in the manner of men, I
have fought with beasts at Ephesus, what
advantage is it to me? If the dead do not rise,
"Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die!"
2. Romans 3:7-8 For if the truth of God has
increased through my lie to His glory, why am I
also still judged as a sinner? 8 And why not say,
"Let us do evil that good may come"?--as we are
slanderously reported and as some affirm that
we say. Their condemnation is just.
I. USE OUR GIFTS
Romans 12:6-8 Having then gifts differing
according to the grace that is given to us, let
us use them: if prophecy, let us prophesy in
proportion to our faith; 7 or ministry, let us
use it in our ministering; he who teaches, in
teaching; 8 he who exhorts, in exhortation;
he who gives, with liberality; he who leads,
with diligence; he who shows mercy, with
cheerfulness.
II. WALK PROPERLY
Romans 13:11-14 And do this, knowing the
time, that now it is high time to awake out of
sleep; for now our salvation is nearer than
when we first believed. 12 The night is far
spent, the day is at hand. Therefore let us
cast off the works of darkness, and let us put
on the armor of light. 13 Let us walk properly,
as in the day, not in revelry and
drunkenness, not in lewdness and lust, not
in strife and envy. 14 But put on the Lord
Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the
flesh, to fulfill its lusts.
III. NOT JUDGE ONE ANOTHER
Romans 14:10-13 But why do you judge your
brother? Or why do you show contempt for
your brother? For we shall all stand before
the judgment seat of Christ. 11 For it is
written: "As I live, says the LORD, Every
knee shall bow to Me, And every tongue
shall confess to God." 12 So then each of us
shall give account of himself to God. 13
Therefore let us not judge one another
anymore, but rather resolve this, not to put a
stumbling block or a cause to fall in our
brother's way.
IV. PURSUE PEACE AND
EDIFICATION
Romans 14:19 Therefore let us pursue
the things which make for peace and the
things by which one may edify another.
V. NOT COMMIT SEXUAL IMMORALITY,
TEMPT CHRIST, TAKE HEED
1 Corinthians 10:6-12 Now these things became our
examples, to the intent that we should not lust after
evil things as they also lusted. 7 And do not become
idolaters as were some of them. As it is written, "The
people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to
play." 8 Nor let us commit sexual immorality, as some
of them did, and in one day twenty-three thousand
fell; 9 nor let us tempt Christ, as some of them also
tempted, and were destroyed by serpents; 10 nor
complain, as some of them also complained, and
were destroyed by the destroyer. 11 Now all these
things happened to them as examples, and they were
written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of
the ages have come. 12 Therefore let him who thinks
he stands take heed lest he fall.
VI. CLEANSE OURSELVES
2 Corinthians 6:14-18 – 7:1 Do not be unequally yoked
together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has
righteousness with lawlessness? And what
communion has light with darkness? 15 And what
accord has Christ with Belial? Or what part has a
believer with an unbeliever? 16 And what agreement has
the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of
the living God. As God has said: "I will dwell in them
And walk among them. I will be their God, And they
shall be My people." 17 Therefore "Come out from
among them And be separate, says the Lord. Do not
touch what is unclean, And I will receive you." 18 "I will
be a Father to you, And you shall be My sons and
daughters, Says the LORD Almighty." 2 Corinthians 7:1
Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us
cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and
spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.
VII. WALK IN THE SPIRIT, NOT
BECOME CONCEITED
Galatians 5:22-26 But the fruit of the Spirit is
love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness,
goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-
control. Against such there is no law. 24 And
those who are Christ's have crucified the
flesh with its passions and desires. 25 If we
live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
26 Let us not become conceited, provoking
one another, envying one another.
VIII. NOT GROW WEARY, DO GOOD
Galatians 6:9-10 And let us not grow
weary while doing good, for in due
season we shall reap if we do not lose
heart. 10 Therefore, as we have
opportunity, let us do good to all,
especially to those who are of the
household of faith.
IX. PRESS TOWARD THE GOAL
Philippians 3:12-16 Not that I have already
attained, or am already perfected; but I press
on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ
Jesus has also laid hold of me. 13 Brethren, I do
not count myself to have apprehended; but one
thing I do, forgetting those things which are
behind and reaching forward to those things
which are ahead, 14 I press toward the goal for
the prize of the upward call of God in Christ
Jesus. 15 Therefore let us, as many as are
mature, have this mind; and if in anything you
think otherwise, God will reveal even this to
you. 16 Nevertheless, to the degree that we have
already attained, let us walk by the same rule,
let us be of the same mind.
X. NOT SLEEP BUT WATCH AND
BE SOBER
1 Thessalonians 5:1-10 But concerning the
times and the seasons, brethren, you have no
need that I should write to you. 2 For you
yourselves know perfectly that the day of the
Lord so comes as a thief in the night. 3 For
when they say, "Peace and safety!" then
sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor
pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall
not escape. 4 But you, brethren, are not in
darkness, so that this Day should overtake you
as a thief. 5 You are all sons of light and sons of
the day. We are not of the night nor of darkness.
>>>
X. NOT SLEEP BUT WATCH AND
BE SOBER
6 Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but
let us watch and be sober. 7 For those who
sleep, sleep at night, and those who get
drunk are drunk at night. 8 But let us who are
of the day be sober, putting on the
breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet
the hope of salvation. 9 For God did not
appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation
through our Lord Jesus Christ, 10 who died
for us, that whether we wake or sleep, we
should live together with Him.
XI. NOT LOVE IN WORD OR
TONGUE BUT IN DEED AND TRUTH
1 John 3:16-18 By this we know love,
because He laid down His life for us. And we
also ought to lay down our lives for the
brethren. 17 But whoever has this world's
goods, and sees his brother in need, and
shuts up his heart from him, how does the
love of God abide in him? 18 My little
children, let us not love in word or in tongue,
but in deed and in truth.
XII. LOVE ONE ANOTHER
1 John 4:7-11 Beloved, let us love one
another, for love is of God; and everyone
who loves is born of God and knows God. 8
He who does not love does not know God,
for God is love. 9 In this the love of God was
manifested toward us, that God has sent His
only begotten Son into the world, that we
might live through Him. 10 In this is love, not
that we loved God, but that He loved us and
sent His Son to be the propitiation for our
sins. 11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we also
ought to love one another.
XIII. BE GLAD AND REJOICE
AND GIVE HIM GLORY
Revelation 19:7 Let us be glad and
rejoice and give Him glory, for the
marriage of the Lamb has come, and His
wife has made herself ready.
WHAT ABOUT YOU?
A.Are you doing the things you should
be doing as Christians?
B.Are you doing things you should not
be doing as Christians?
C.Is there any way we can help you to be
what you should be?
HAVE A GODLY WEEK
