Isaiah 9:6-7 For unto us a Child is born,
Unto us a Son is given; And the
government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called Wonderful,
Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting
Father, Prince of Peace. 7 Of the increase
of His government and peace There will
be no end, Upon the throne of David and
over His kingdom, To order it and
establish it with judgment and justice
From that time forward, even forever. The
zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform
this.
JESUS OUR MIGHTY GOD
A. This is not the only prophecy that indicates
that the Messiah is God. In Psalm 45 the
psalmist had written of Him as God, whose
throne is forever, who wields the scepter of
uprightness over His kingdom (vs. 6). That
these words are a prophecy of the Messiah is
made clear in Hebrews 1:8 where the
prophet, in speaking of Jesus—the Son—
applies this Psalm to Him saying - (Heb 1:8)
But of the Son He says, "Your throne, O God,
is forever and ever, and the righteous scepter
is the scepter of His kingdom.
JESUS OUR MIGHTY GOD
B. The Messiah is God, And Jeremiah
brought this out also when he wrote. (Jer
23:5-6) “Behold, the days are coming,”
declares the LORD, “When I will raise up
for David a righteous Branch; And He will
reign as king and act wisely and do justice
and righteousness in the land. In His days
Judah will be saved, and Israel will dwell
securely; And this is His name by which
He will be called, ‘The LORD our
righteousness.’”
C. The Messiah—Jesus—is Mighty God.
PROPHECIES SAID HE WOULD
BE GOD
Matthew 1:23 "Behold, the virgin shall be
with child, and bear a Son, and they shall
call His name Immanuel," which is
translated, "God with us.”
JOHN SAID HE WAS CREATOR
AND GOD
A. John 1:1-5 In the beginning was the
Word, and the Word was with God, and
the Word was God. 2 He was in the
beginning with God. 3 All things were
made through Him, and without Him
nothing was made that was made. 4 In
Him was life, and the life was the light of
men. 5 And the light shines in the
darkness, and the darkness did not
comprehend it.
JOHN SAID HE WAS CREATOR
AND GOD
B. John 1:14 And the Word became flesh
and dwelt among us, and we beheld His
glory, the glory as of the only begotten of
the Father, full of grace and truth.
C. 1 John 5:7 For there are three that bear
witness in heaven: the Father, the Word,
and the Holy Spirit; and these three are
one.
JESUS CLAIMED TO BE GOD (I AM)
A. John 8:58-59 Jesus said to them, "Most
assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was,
I AM." 59 Then they took up stones to throw
at Him; but Jesus hid Himself and went out
of the temple, going through the midst of
them, and so passed by.
B. Exodus 3:13-14 Then Moses said to God,
"Indeed, when I come to the children of Israel
and say to them, 'The God of your fathers
has sent me to you,' and they say to me,
'What is His name?' what shall I say to
them?" 14 And God said to Moses, "I AM
WHO I AM." And He said, "Thus you shall say
to the children of Israel, 'I AM has sent me to
you.' “
THOMAS SAID HE WAS GOD
John 20:24-29 Now Thomas, called the Twin, one of the
twelve, was not with them when Jesus came. 25 The
other disciples therefore said to him, "We have seen
the Lord." So he said to them, "Unless I see in His
hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the
print of the nails, and put my hand into His side, I will
not believe." 26 And after eight days His disciples were
again inside, and Thomas with them. Jesus came, the
doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said,
"Peace to you!" 27 Then He said to Thomas, "Reach
your finger here, and look at My hands; and reach your
hand here, and put it into My side. Do not be
unbelieving, but believing." 28 And Thomas answered
and said to Him, "My Lord and my God!" 29 Jesus said
to him, "Thomas, because you have seen Me, you have
believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet
have believed.”
PAUL SAID HE WAS THE
CREATOR (GOD)
Colossians 1:15-17 He is the image of
the invisible God, the firstborn over all
creation. 16 For by Him all things were
created that are in heaven and that are on
earth, visible and invisible, whether
thrones or dominions or principalities or
powers. All things were created through
Him and for Him. 17 And He is before all
things, and in Him all things consist.
PAUL CALLED HIM GOD
A. Romans 9:3-5 For I could wish that I myself were
accursed from Christ for my brethren, my
countrymen according to the flesh, 4 who are
Israelites, to whom pertain the adoption, the glory,
the covenants, the giving of the law, the service of
God, and the promises; 5 of whom are the fathers
and from whom, according to the flesh, Christ
came, who is over all, the eternally blessed God.
Amen.
B. Titus 2:11-13 For the grace of God that brings
salvation has appeared to all men, 12 teaching us
that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we
should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the
present age, 13 looking for the blessed hope and
glorious appearing of our great God and Savior
Jesus Christ,
JOHN SAID JESUS WAS THE
TRUE GOD
1 John 5:20 And we know that the Son of
God has come and has given us an
understanding, that we may know Him
who is true; and we are in Him who is
true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the
true God and eternal life.
JESUS OUR MIGHTY GOD
A. Deuteronomy 10:17 For the LORD your God
is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great
God, mighty and awesome, who shows no
partiality nor takes a bribe.
B. 1 Timothy 6:14-16 that you keep this
commandment without spot, blameless until
our Lord Jesus Christ's appearing, 15 which
He will manifest in His own time, He who is
the blessed and only Potentate, the King of
kings and Lord of lords, 16 who alone has
immortality, dwelling in unapproachable
light, whom no man has seen or can see, to
whom be honor and everlasting power.
Amen.
