This document discusses the biblical meaning of glory. It explores how glory is used in scripture to refer to God's majesty, importance and presence. Glory is mentioned 369 times in the Bible and refers to God as the "King of glory." The document examines passages that describe experiences of God's glory, such as when his glory filled the temple and was seen by Isaiah. It suggests God's intention is for humanity to have an experiential, relational knowledge of his glory, and that Jesus revealed God's glory to fulfill this purpose.
We’re Wrestling Who? - Ephesians 6:10-13David Turner
Our battles are not against flesh and blood. Our battles are against Principalities and Powers. These adversaries are much bigger than us and cannot be defeated by our own strength. In Ephesians 6:10-13 Paul identifies who we are really wrestling with and follows up with advice on how to compete to gain victory. For this and other PowerPoint Presentations go to www.Bibleguy.org.
Take up the helmet of salvation eph 6 17aDavid Turner
The head is the location of our thoughts and memories. We must protect our minds by putting on the helmet of salvation. The mind cannot be transformed without Christ becoming the center of our thoughts. The transformation saves us from the vane belief systems and ethical impure thoughts of the world. Put on Christ and put on the helmet of salvation. Free PowerPoint Download at http://bibleguy.org/sermon-resources/powerpoints/886/06/17/
Put On Righteousness - Ephesians 6:14bDavid Turner
We cannot clothe ourselves in our personal righteousness, because any righteousness we have in ourselves falls short of God's standard of righteousness. Instead, we must shield our hearts with the righteousness of Christ. We are declared righteous because of his righteousness, not because of anything in ourselves. Girt Your Loins In Truth - Ephesians 6:14aDavid Turner
Paul tells the Ephesian Christians to girt their loans in truth. One's loins is the center of one being. It is the place stability. In a world which runs on the current of popular opinion it's often difficult to discern truth. Is is found in science, or philosophy, or politicians or power. Real truth is found in Jesus Christ who proclaimed, "I am the way, the truth and the life, no man comes to the Father accept through me." This is the truth that Paul encourages the Ephesians gird their loins with. It's the same truth we ought to hold tight to our core. It's hard for most people to grasp the concept of being a slave. Most would deny that they are servants. But the reality is that we are all slaves/servants to something. If one is honest with himself He'll admit that he is in bondage to his job, to a location where he lives, to a bad marriage, to a sick and dying body and most of all to sin. Paul speaks in the context to the Roman empire where the majority of his listeners are servants. You may not be this kind of a servant, but the principles are still applicable to employees, students and even children. Jesus did not come to rule but to serve. We are to do the same.

Coming Home To Our True Identity - Charles Razzellrfochler
Charles Razzell contrasts the attitudes and outcomes for two men who encountered God's power: Simon the Sorcerer and Paul the Apostle (Acts chapters 8 & 9). God calls us to experience sonship and values us accordingly, whereas many of us still tend to assess each other for what we do. The best possible outcome is when we know who we are in Christ and live accordingly; Jesus being the Vine, and we the branches. In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.

Homily: The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity Sunday 2024.docxJames Knipper
Countless volumes have been written trying to explain the mystery of three persons in one true God, leaving us to resort to metaphors such as the three-leaf clover to try to comprehend the Divinity. Many of us grew up with the quintessential pyramidal Trinity structure of God at the top and Son and Spirit in opposite corners. But what if we looked at this ‘mystery’ from a different perspective? What if we shifted our language of God as a being towards the concept of God as love? What if we focused more on the relationship within the Trinity versus the persons of the Trinity? What if stopped looking at God as a noun…and instead considered God as a verb? Check it out…

2. Glory
• Its mentioned throughout the Bible
• When you read or hear that word
- what comes to your mind?
3. Glory in “the World”
• How is the word “glory” used in
newspapers, magazines, movies,
etc?
4. Human Glory?
• Extraordinary bravery and sacrifice
in battle? (for example, the movie
“Glory” about Black Civil War
soldiers)
• Extraordinary athletic achievement?
“Hopefuls Battle for NFL Glory:
NPR”
5.
6. What does “Glory” mean?
• The Hebrew word for "glory" is “( ,כבודkavod” or
“kabod”).
• at its root, “kavod” means "weight" or
"heaviness." The same word is then used to
express importance, honor, and majesty.
• When 70 Hebrew scholars translated the
Jewish scriptures into Greek, they chose the
Greek word “doxa” (δόξα) which means
“common belief” or popular opinion” for the
Hebrew “kavod” כבודand the followers of Jesus
who wrote the “New Testament” in Greek also
used “doxa” for “glory”.
9. An Observation Of God’s
Glory
16 Now the glory of the LORD rested
on Mount Sinai, and the cloud
covered it six days. And on the
seventh day He called to Moses out of
the midst of the cloud. 17 The sight
of the glory of the LORD was like a
consuming fire on the top of the
mountain in the eyes of the children
of Israel. Exodus 24:16-17 NKJV
10.
11. Glory is Important
to God
• Glory is used 369 times in the NKJV
• He is the “King of glory”
12. From Psalm 24 & Handel’s Messiah
Lift up your heads, O you gates!
7
And be lifted up, you everlasting doors!
And the King of glory shall come in.
Who is this King of glory? The LORD strong and
8
mighty, the LORD mighty in battle.
Lift up your heads, O you gates!
9
Lift up, you everlasting doors!
And the King of glory shall come in.
Who is this King of glory? The LORD of hosts,
10
He is the King of glory.
14.
15. God’s Glory on the Earth
I saw the LORD sitting on a throne, high
and lifted up, and the train of His robe
filled the temple. Above it stood
2
seraphim; each one had six wings: with
two he covered his face, with two he
covered his feet, and with two he flew.
3 And one cried to another and said:
“Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts;
The whole earth is full of His glory!”
Isaiah 6:1-3 NKJV
16.
17. How does Isaiah respond to this
glory-filled experience?
4And the posts of the door were shaken by
the voice of him who cried out, and the house
was filled with smoke.
5 So I said:
“Woe is me, for I am undone!
Because I am a man of unclean lips,
And I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean
lips;
For my eyes have seen the King,
The LORD of hosts.” Isaiah 6:4-5
18. God’s Intention: An Experiential,
Relational Knowledge (Yada) of His Glory
12 “Woe to him who builds a town with
bloodshed, who establishes a city by
iniquity!
13 Behold, is it not of the Lord of hosts
that the peoples labor to feed the fire,
and nations weary themselves in vain?
14 For the earth will be filled with the
knowledge (yada) of the glory of the
LORD, as the waters cover the sea.
Hab 2:12-14
19.
20. Glory vs. Shame
The very next verses in Habakkuk read:
“Woe to him who gives drink to his neighbor,
Pressing him to your bottle,
Even to make him drunk,
That you may look on his nakedness!
You are filled with shame instead of glory.
You also—drink!
And be exposed as uncircumcised!”
Hab 2:15-16a
21. • God will talk about or even reveal His
glory in the midst of covenant people
behaving shamefully.
• Besides Habakkuk, we have Numbers
14:11-24
• Also God comes in astounding glory in
Ezekiel to remove His indwelling glory
from the Temple. See Ezekiel 1:4-28 &
chapters 10 & 11. Even then, in chapter
11 and chapter 36, God promises that
He will put a new spirit and a soft heart
in His people.
22. What God is saying to Judah through
the prophet Habakkuk is:
“The ways you are trying to bring
glory to yourselves is bringing shame
instead. But I,Yahweh will show the
whole earth true glory - which
comes from relationally knowing Me.”
23. Yahweh Will Reveal His Glory
to All Flesh
The glory of the LORD shall be
revealed, and all flesh shall see
it together;
For the mouth of the Lord has
spoken.”
Isaiah 40:5
24. The heavens declare the glory of God;
And the firmament shows His handiwork. Ps 19.1
25. The glory of Yahweh already fills all
of His creation! What is missing
has been our ability to perceive and
relationally experience His glory.
But Yahweh’s plan is that humanity
will “see” Him and His glory in His
Son Jesus:
26. • “And the Word became flesh and dwelt
among us, and we beheld His glory, the
glory as of the only begotten of the
Father, full of grace and truth.” John 1:14
• But since that time, the eyes of many have
been blinded by the enemy from seeing this
glory in the person of Jesus. And this is
where you and I come in. We are called
and empowered to shine that experiential,
relational knowledge of Jesus wherever we
go:
27. • 3But even if our gospel is veiled, it is
veiled to those who are perishing, 4
whose minds the god of this age has
blinded, who do not believe, lest the light
of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who
is the image of God, should shine on
them.
• 6For it is the God who commanded light
to shine out of darkness, who has shone
in our hearts to give the light of the
knowledge of the glory of God in the face
of Jesus Christ. 2 Cor 4:3-4 & 6 NKJV
28. Beholding Jesus
16Nevertheless when one turns to the
Lord, the veil is taken away. Now the
17
Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit
of the Lord is, there is liberty. But we
18
all, with unveiled face, beholding as in
a mirror the glory of the Lord, are
being transformed into the same image
from glory to glory, just as by the
Spirit of the Lord. 2 Cor 3:16-18
29.
30.
31. Arise, Shine!
Arise, shine;
For your light has come!
And the glory of the Lord is risen upon you.
2For behold, the darkness shall cover the
earth, and deep darkness the people;
But the Lord will arise over you, and His
glory will be seen upon you.
3The Gentiles shall come to your light,
And kings to the brightness of your rising.
Isaiah 60:1-3
32. God’s Plan
For it was fitting for Him, for whom
are all things and by whom are all
things, in bringing many sons to
glory, to make the captain of their
salvation perfect through sufferings.
Hebrews 2:9-11
33. Suffering?
• Suffering for the sake of love (love of
God, love of others) and for the sake of
being whole-hearted - is of immense
value in God’s eyes.
• Choosing to accept and even embrace
our vulnerabilities is a key to true love
and intimacy.
• Jesus walked this through as a human
on the earth - so that we could inherit
this grace from Him.
34. Adoption, Suffering, and Glory
15 For you did not receive the spirit of
bondage again to fear, but you
received the Spirit of adoption by
whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.”
16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with
our spirit that we are children of God,
17 and if children, then heirs—heirs of
God and joint heirs with Christ, if
indeed we suffer with Him, that we
may also be glorified together.
Romans 8:15-17
35. Revealed In Us
“18 For I consider that the sufferings of this
present time are not worthy to be
compared with the glory which shall be
revealed in us.” Romans 8:18
Our willingness to suffer for love, to live
vulnerably - is establishing glory in us.
And this is only possible as we continue to
behold Jesus and His eyes of love and
acceptance for us.
36. Glory Provided
So We Can Be One
20“I do not pray for these alone, but also for those
who will believe in Me through their word; 21 that
they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me,
and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that
the world may believe that You sent Me. 22 And the
glory which You gave Me I have given them, that
they may be one just as We are one: 23 I in them,
and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in
one, and that the world may know that You have
sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved
Me.
