2. Legal issue to consider How this may effect my work What I can do about this?
Copyright of content
music and videos/archive
footage
I would need to pay royalty fees for my use
of found footage or music under-copyright.
This will effect the choice of music that is
available to me as I may not be able to use
music that would appeal to my target
audience.
For music I will need to get music from a copyright free source.
Could create my own original music to use in my work.
I could contact the relevant copyright holder to see if I can
seek permission as a student film maker. The other way I could
avoid copyright infringement would be if I do not upload my
finished work to any pubic sources such as YouTube or Vimeo
but this may impact on my distribution
Location release/Recees
I may have problems filming in buildings and
companies.
I may have to contact places before I start filming to get
permission to film. Also I may have to contact the PR of certain
companies.
Talent release/Personal
release
I may have to use talents releases because I
am going to be interviewing victims of
domestic violence and they may not want
their identity to be shown.
I can blur out peoples faces and use dramatic lighting to cover
peoples identity.
Privacy My documentary is very personal as I am
going to be getting peoples stories of
domestic violence. So when making my
documentary I need to make sure I do not
invade peoples personal privacy.
To stop this I will make sure my interviewee will fill out a
release form. This will make sure that I do not invade peoples
privacy.

3. Ethical Issues
ethical issue to consider How this may effect my work What I can do about this?
Handling sensitive
information
This could effect my work quite a
lot because I am going to be filming
people who have suffered from
domestic violence. These people
may want their identity kept secret.
Also people may feel sensitive
about the topic so may not want to
say their full opinion
To help people protect their identity I could change
the tone of their voice and use black out lighting to
black out the face of the interviewee.
Balance and Bias This may effect my work because if
I have biased then it may come
across in my documentary by how I
portray people.
To stop this I must be aware of my opinion and make
sure it is not portrayed in my documentary.
Representation of subject
This may effect my work because
people may not like the way I
represent them in my documentary.
To stop this I can tell my interviewees the questions
I’m going to be asking them before it happens. Also I
can arrange to show my interviewees my final product
before it is shown.
