When we first started looking at doing a short film, we immediately took to YouTube to
research previous a level short films. This was an easy way to gain a knowledge of the
previous standard set and also what the majority of the short films were about. This
allowed us to gain an idea of what route we wanted to go down. After this I started to look
at some professionally made short films made by well known YouTube film makers, this was
great as I was able to research further into the artistic style of film that we wanted to
produce. Bertie Gilbert was an especially important part of research as his film, let it be
provoked a lot of ideas on the ways in which we wanted to structure the films narrative and
also the atmosphere that we wanted to create through camera placement and location.
Overall YouTube was the best source of information in researching short films as it fully
allowed us to access previous films and also access information quickly.

page after watching it, I found Martha’s
storyline to be very reminiscent of Sam’s, this
was not because of the narrative which is
completely different to our own, however
throughout the film Martha is dealing with
her impending death and the strain of kidding
it from her loved ones, very much like Sam
hiding his illness from his family and friends.
Martha's emotion has allowed Sam’s
character to develop as we have began to
apply the presentation of her emotion to our
own film, through the camera angles, I found
that Martha's emotion is emphasised by her
close ups and also how the camera seems to
put her in a inferior position, the audience
feels as though they are looming above her
and although her condition is not revealed
until the last couple of the film, the audience
can sense that there is a foreboding
atmosphere lingering around her character
which is perfectly presented through all
aspects of the film.
