This document discusses learning analytics and tracking learning outside of learning management systems (LMS). It notes that most LMS features are unused and current analytics are just visualizations that provide little insight. True analytics can provide valuable insights from data, as demonstrated by companies like Deere that saved over $1 billion using analytics. Learning analytics is now possible through new learning record store (LRS) systems that can track more learning data. Web analytics packages can provide initial insights, and the document provides an example analysis of usage data that led to insights about content, usability, and player behavior.
This was a short presentation given internally to explain the core principles of Scrum and what we are trying to do with it. It doesn't make a lot of sense without the talk that was given with it, but some ideas may be lifted off of it.

How to Effectively Lead Focus Groups: Presented at ProductTank TorontoTremis Skeete
Topic: How to Effectively Lead Focus Groups
Tremis Skeete, NexTier Innovations
Talking to users can be a challenge and running a focus group is one of those tasks which most Product Managers would say is essential in getting real insights. Whether you want to test your user group's response to a new product or changes to features within an existing product, as a product person you need to have a creative set of analytical skills and strategies for how to steer the group toward productive discussions. In this presentation, Tremis will discuss how focus groups can truly work well for you, and how you can organize, coordinate, and effectively lead focus group sessions.
These are the slides from the MyCharityConnects Spring 2010 workshops (web conference) in Grande Prairie and Fort McMurray.

Everything Old is New Again: The Fundamentals of Fundraising in the Digital World
The game of fundraising and community engagement seems to be constantly shifting. New tools, new trends, new challenges all seem to be vying for attention, and charities are being held to account for every penny spent and every hour worked and volunteered. How do you tie together traditional fundraising with the brave new world of fundraising and campaign-building online? Learn why online giving is an extension of everything you already know, and why most of us could improve both our online and offline fundraising using techniques that are as ‘old as the hills’. Finally, discover why online fundraising actually emphasizes the need for proper and targeted traditional offline fundraising, marketing, and communications.

DevLearn 2018 - Designing AR Experiences for Performance SupportChad Udell
While many companies are experimenting with AR in the L&D space, there are a number of businesses harnessing the power of AR for enhancing operational performance outside of the training department. How do these experiences differ, and how can you renew your department’s focus on performance by taking on more advanced AR solutions in your efforts?
In this session, you will learn practical approaches for designing effective AR experiences. You’ll discover an approach to strategic implementation of AR by forming a partnership with functional business units. You’ll also explore the difference between simple marker-based AR solutions and more advanced computer vision and machine learning–backed AR. You’ll then look at how you can integrate AR systems with operational business systems in order to maximize return on investment and realize the opportunity that AR-enabled workers represent. Finally, you’ll look at aligning measurement of business task success and AR experience usage in order to align learning and production.

You likely have a lot of great learning content in your library. How do you get it to mobile devices without attempting (and likely failing) the dreaded conversion process? It can be difficult to think through the ideation process to bring new life into your content for the small screen and the on-the-go mobile learner.
Session participants will examine a number of high-profile success stories and gain insight into the instructional design process used to marry mobile user-experience design and existing content. You’ll see examples, case studies, and process documents, and you will explore real-world examples on how to successfully refocus your efforts to create great mobile learning.
Max 2010- Building Mobile Learning with Your Existing eLearning Toolkit - Ado...Chad Udell
See how mobile learning can be achieved using Adobe Creative Suite 5 and Adobe AIR. Most smartphones are capable of using learning content created with these tools without needing native development. This approach accelerates development, lowers costs, and increases adoption thanks to cross-platform compatibility. Various mobile platforms will be explored, featuring mobile web content and applications. Testing and debugging using Adobe Device Central and other testing platforms will be examined.
This session will examine the four main systems – Windows, Android, iPhone/Pad, and BlackBberry. What’s the difference? Does the OS change what is possible? What can they offer you, and which should you be choosing?
Creating mLearning With Your Existing ToolkitChad Udell
People often think mobile applications only consist of dedicated software development tools and techniques used by traditional computer scientists that can often be arcane or require very specific tools and platform-specific APIs. And sometimes we must redevelop applications several times to hit all target platforms, which can be very time consuming and expensive. But most modern platforms are quite capable of providing very powerful and engaging experiences using Web based APIs and manipulating the DOM via Javascript. This may be a far more accessible toolkit for your development team and it could accelerate your development efforts.
This is a fun one! Learn how to hack up robots you can buy at a local toy store. You’ll see the methods used to take the video stream out of the robot and turn it into a format Flash likes. You’ll get the lowdown on how to send API commands to control the bot. We’ll show you how to connect it to alternative controllers and use ActionScript for some simple color detection on the video stream.

The Next Steps
Everyone is either going to or leaving an LMS... But for what? What does it brign them? Big promises? Does it delvier?\n
Common rule of thumb for software usage.\n\nLMSes have become bloated... Do a LOT of things, but not really many of them are done well.\n
You know the drill...\n\nWhat do you measure?\nStart, completion, score?\n\nWhat about operational data? Performance? Application in the real world?\n
Even the reports and the data that is in the system is probably inadequate.\n\nIs it tied to other real world systems? Simulators? CRM, SCM, ERP? How do we know they are doing their job better?\n\n
Ah, chart junk.\n\n3 minutes... Log into your LMS if you can find me the most useless report you can.\n
Worthless data, provides no useful infomration, you gain no insight and therefore can offer no recommendations to your mgmt.\n
It’s pretty clear that we are on the verge of something big here.\n\nCloud services, more robust tracking tools, mobile performance support and on-the-go learning.\n\n\n

Davenport, Thomas H.; Harris, Jeanne G. (2007). Competing on analytics : the new science of winning. Boston, Mass.: Harvard Business School Press. ISBN 978-1-4221-0332-6.\n\nAnalytics have been used in business since the time management exercises that were initiated by Frederick Winslow Taylor in the late 19th century. Henry Ford measured pacing of assembly line. But analytics began to command more attention in the late 1960s when computers were used in decision support systems. Since then, analytics have evolved with the development of enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, data warehouses, and a wide variety of other hardware and software tools and applications.[3]\n[edit]\n\n\nBusiness analytics depends on sufficient volumes of high quality data. The difficulty in ensuring data quality is integrating and reconciling data across different systems, and then deciding what subsets of data to make available.[3]\nPreviously, analytics was considered a type of after-the-fact method of forecasting consumer behavior by examining the number of units sold in the last quarter or the last year. This type of data warehousing required a lot more storage space than it did speed. Now business analytics is becoming a tool that can influence the outcome of customer interactions.[4] When a specific customer type is considering a purchase, an analytics-enabled enterprise can modify the sales pitch to appeal to that consumer. This means the storage space for all that data must react extremely fast to provide the necessary data in real-time.\n\n

Learning analytics is the use of intelligent data, learner-produced data, and analysis models to discover information and social connections for predicting and advising people's learning.\nand its criticism:\n"I somewhat disagree with this definition - it serves well as an introductory concept if we use analytics as a support structure for existing education models. I think learning analytics - at an advanced and integrated implementation - can do away with pre-fab curriculum models". George Siemens, 2010.[2]\n"In the descriptions of learning analytics we talk about using data to "predict success". I've struggled with that as I pore over our databases. I've come to realize there are different views/levels of success." Mike Sharkey 2010.[3]\n\n
