Constructivism is a learning theory developed by psychologists including Piaget, Bruner, Vygotsky, and Dewey. It proposes that people build their understanding of concepts over time through experiences and interactions with their surroundings. By this view, learning involves constructing one's own knowledge instead of just receiving information. Constructivism also holds that as people age and develop, their ways of thinking and learning change through experience. In a classroom, teachers aim to support students in understanding concepts and becoming expert learners, while students explore and discover new information with guidance from teachers.
