• ‘Student as producer’ makes learners reflect
  on the purposes of higher education.

• ‘Chemistry FM’ from the University of
  Lincoln.

• ‘What is Crime?’ from UCBC (youTube) and
  “Reframing assessments for the University of
  the Future” (Enhancing Learning in the Social
  Sciences journal, 2011).
Without boundaries
• ‘What is Crime?’ took Criminology students
  away from exclusively ‘producing’ 2,500 word
  essays.

• Introduced different disciplines into their
  studies and contributed to a much needed
  “visual criminology”.

• Appropriate for contemporary HE and “the
  edgeless university”?
The open revolution?
• In 2010-11 we participated in the "Cascading Social
  Sciences Open Educational Resources" project funded
  by JISC (Joint Information Systems Committee) and
  undertaken by C-SAP (the Centre for
  Sociology, Anthropology and Politics).

• OERs are:
“teaching, learning and research materials in any
medium, digital or otherwise, that reside in the public
domain or have been released under an open license that
permits no-cost access, use, adaptation and redistribution
by others with no or limited restrictions. ” (2012 Paris OER
Declaration)

Producing students • ‘Student as producer’ makes learners reflect on the purposes of higher education. • ‘Chemistry FM’ from the University of Lincoln. • ‘What is Crime?’ from UCBC (youTube) and “Reframing assessments for the University of the Future” (Enhancing Learning in the Social Sciences journal, 2011).
  • 4. Without boundaries • ‘What is Crime?’ took Criminology students away from exclusively ‘producing’ 2,500 word essays. • Introduced different disciplines into their studies and contributed to a much needed “visual criminology”. • Appropriate for contemporary HE and “the edgeless university”?

The open revolution? • In 2010-11 we participated in the "Cascading Social Sciences Open Educational Resources" project funded by JISC (Joint Information Systems Committee) and undertaken by C-SAP (the Centre for Sociology, Anthropology and Politics). • OERs are: “teaching, learning and research materials in any medium, digital or otherwise, that reside in the public domain or have been released under an open license that permits no-cost access, use, adaptation and redistribution by others with no or limited restrictions. ” (2012 Paris OER Declaration)
