 Keep discussions constructive and positive.
 Encourage participants.
 Generate an agenda or goals for the
discussion
 Make sure everyone gets necessary
information, readings or other material
beforehand.
 Bring materials to help the discussion along.
 Provide food and drink.
 Choose the space.
 Set the stage.
 Allow participants to introduce themselves.
 Be clear about expectations and intentions
amongst participants and the facilitator.
 Use inclusive language.
 Ask for clarification if unclear about
participants intent or question.
 Treat participants with respect and
consideration.
 Develop an awareness for barriers for
learning.
 Provide sufficient time and space for
participants to gather their thoughts and
contribute to discussion.
 Provide opportunities for participants to pair-
share.
 Don’t use conventions or language that will
exclude certain groups from understanding
the context of the discussion or make them
feel uncomfortable.
 Don’t use or allow others to use disrespectful
language or tone.
 Don’t convey a sense of self-importance or
superiority.
 Don’t allow only the dominant or more verbal
participants to take over the conversation.
 Don’t encourage counter arguments.
 Don’t try to be someone else be yourself.
 Over-talkative member.
 Non-talkative.
 Tangent starter( distracter).
 Insensitive person (makes fun of others ).
 These people will just ruin your discussion
and would be hurdle in achieving the goals
of discussion.
