Running Head: PRACTICUM PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE 1
PRACTCUM PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE 3
Amanda Swenty
Discussion Week 6
In the contemporary society, there has been an increasing need for nursing courses to provide effective practicum programs for trainees. Practicum courses have brought a great impact on the field of nursing since it ensures that nursing students can acquire practical knowledge alongside the theoretical knowledge that they have learned in class (Anderson & Knorr, 2011). The paper presents an assessment of the progress towards achieving objectives of the practicum course as well as another critical issue in nursing informatics.
During the beginning of the practicum course, there were several objectives that the nursing the students were supposed to achieve. For example, we were expected to be in a position to undertake the role of a clinical coordinator to students using evidence-based practices. The knowledge gained from the practical course has enabled me to gain skills in clinical informatics. Moreover, through active participation in the field course, I was able to participate in conflict resolution meetings hence I boosted my skills in conflict resolution. I have also adopted various measures such as active participation in solving disputes between my colleagues hence I believe I will perfect my conflict resolution knowledge and skills. Since the start of the practicum course, I have also managed to gain skills required in analyzing and effectively evaluating systematically clinical sites. This has been done through participation in discussion with my fellow students and also consulting from my preceptor Ms. Julie Williams.
There are several measures that can be adopted to ensure that the objectives are undertaken. For instance, to make the learners enhance the conflict resolution skills, the host organization should provide a sustainable environment for the students. During the practicum course, the students should be treated with respect and given a chance to participate in critical organizational functions such as conflict resolutions.
Moreover, the learners themselves should be insightful individuals who are interested in gaining practical knowledge in nursing informatics. The students should also feel free to interact with other nursing practitioners as well as the assigned preceptor.
During the practicum course, there are several challenges that have been experienced. For example, the nursing practitioners did not show respect to the students. This is because they believed that the students were unskilled in the field and thus could not participate in crucial decision making. There was also poor communication in the organization that hindered the operations of the hea ...

SBIRT is an evidence based approach to the delivery of early intervention and treatment to people with substance use disorders and those at risk of developing these disorders. Collaborative SBIRT Training for Maine’s Future Health Profession Leaders is a three-year grant totaling $870,000 from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). The first of its kind to be awarded in Maine, this grant utilizes an interprofessional approach to the development and implementation of training programs to teach UNE students across 8 health professions the skills necessary to provide evidence-based Screening and Brief Intervention as well as Referral to Treatment for patients who are at risk for a substance use disorder (SUD). Additionally, the training will develop the leadership skills needed in order to champion the implementation of SBIRT throughout our healthcare system with the ultimate goal of helping clients avoid substance use disorders.
This presentation deals with SBIRT and Social Work in particular.
A critical transition point for entry into the professoriate is a postdoctoral experience. In the STEM and biomedical science fields, one or more years of work as a postdoc are increasingly required for advancement into tenure-track faculty positions, but according to recent NSF data only 8.3 percent of postdoctoral scholars in those fields were from underrepresented backgrounds. Furthermore, underrepresented postdocs are not entering tenure-track faculty positions in sufficient numbers, especially at research-intensive institutions. During this webinar, we will explore known barriers to minority postdoc success as well as the efficacy of national programs designed to advance them to the professoriate (e.g. NIH IRACDA). Speakers will also highlight successful regional programs, such as the Carolina Postdoctoral Program for Faculty Diversity. The webinar will conclude with information about a proposed action item to partner with national stakeholders to evaluate the impact of diversity programs on postdoctoral scholars.
This workshop was presented at the Stanford Medicine Medical and Biosciences Education Day on May 21, 2022. It contains information on training in medical education, publishing tips in health professions education, and some advice for thriving in the field.

Flu Vaccine Alert in Bangalore Karnatakaaddon Scans
As flu season approaches, health officials in Bangalore, Karnataka, are urging residents to get their flu vaccinations. The seasonal flu, while common, can lead to severe health complications, particularly for vulnerable populations such as young children, the elderly, and those with underlying health conditions.
Dr. Vidisha Kumari, a leading epidemiologist in Bangalore, emphasizes the importance of getting vaccinated. "The flu vaccine is our best defense against the influenza virus. It not only protects individuals but also helps prevent the spread of the virus in our communities," he says.
This year, the flu season is expected to coincide with a potential increase in other respiratory illnesses. The Karnataka Health Department has launched an awareness campaign highlighting the significance of flu vaccinations. They have set up multiple vaccination centers across Bangalore, making it convenient for residents to receive their shots.
To encourage widespread vaccination, the government is also collaborating with local schools, workplaces, and community centers to facilitate vaccination drives. Special attention is being given to ensuring that the vaccine is accessible to all, including marginalized communities who may have limited access to healthcare.
Residents are reminded that the flu vaccine is safe and effective. Common side effects are mild and may include soreness at the injection site, mild fever, or muscle aches. These side effects are generally short-lived and far less severe than the flu itself.
Healthcare providers are also stressing the importance of continuing COVID-19 precautions. Wearing masks, practicing good hand hygiene, and maintaining social distancing are still crucial, especially in crowded places.
Protect yourself and your loved ones by getting vaccinated. Together, we can help keep Bangalore healthy and safe this flu season. For more information on vaccination centers and schedules, residents can visit the Karnataka Health Department’s official website or follow their social media pages.
Stay informed, stay safe, and get your flu shot today!
CDSCO and Phamacovigilance {Regulatory body in India}NEHA GUPTA
The Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) is India's national regulatory body for pharmaceuticals and medical devices. Operating under the Directorate General of Health Services, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, the CDSCO is responsible for approving new drugs, conducting clinical trials, setting standards for drugs, controlling the quality of imported drugs, and coordinating the activities of State Drug Control Organizations by providing expert advice.
Pharmacovigilance, on the other hand, is the science and activities related to the detection, assessment, understanding, and prevention of adverse effects or any other drug-related problems. The primary aim of pharmacovigilance is to ensure the safety and efficacy of medicines, thereby protecting public health.
In India, pharmacovigilance activities are monitored by the Pharmacovigilance Programme of India (PvPI), which works closely with CDSCO to collect, analyze, and act upon data regarding adverse drug reactions (ADRs). Together, they play a critical role in ensuring that the benefits of drugs outweigh their risks, maintaining high standards of patient safety, and promoting the rational use of medicines.
