India has enacted several laws and acts to protect children and promote their healthy development, as children represent the future of the country but are also vulnerable. The laws aim to guarantee children justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity as citizens, and protect their right against exploitation by banning employment of children under 14 in hazardous jobs or industries. Violating child labor laws by employing children in homes, restaurants or tea shops is a punishable offense carrying a prison sentence of up to three years or a fine of Rs. 10,000-20,000.
