This document presents information on child labour in India. It defines child labour as children engaging in economic activity on a part-time or full-time basis, which deprives them of their childhood and harms their development. Poverty, lack of schools, and growth of the informal economy are cited as causes of child labour in India. The Constitution prohibits child labour under 14 and various laws provide the legal basis to address the issue. The objective of related acts is to adopt a gradual, sequential approach focused on rehabilitation while addressing root causes like poverty.
