Lavender is a volatile oil obtained through steam distillation of fresh flowering tops of Lavandula officinalis. It is found in Portugal and throughout the Mediterranean region, and is also cultivated in some parts of India. Lavender oil is a colorless or yellow liquid with a characteristic pleasant aroma. Its main chemical constituents include linalyl acetate, linalool, pinene, geraniol, and cineol. Lavender oil is used as an aromatic and carminative agent and in perfumery and cosmetics for its flavor.
