Laura Mulvey introduced the concept of the "male gaze" in 1975, which refers to the perspective through which women are viewed in visual media for the heterosexual male viewer's pleasure. The male gaze can be seen when camerawork focuses on and highlights a woman's body through techniques like slow motion and deliberate movements. Jennifer Lopez's music video for "I LuhYa Papi" aimed to challenge conventions of the male gaze by reversing gender roles - showing men as objects for the female gaze rather than women being objectified for male viewers. However, Lopez herself was still dressed provocatively, so the video only partially succeeded in challenging typical gender representations in music videos.

The music video really doesn’t reflect the lyric.The video actually conforms
with Mulvey’s theory . On the other hand, the genre plays a significant role in
the representation of gender, especially the genre feature in this music video
(R&B).Woman are usually used to drew more attention, especially for men. It’s
quite conventional for woman in R&B music videos to be dressed in
provocative clothes and dance in a provocative way.

Jennifer Lopez has tried with this music video to combat and contradict
conventions of how woman are shown in music videos.
Most music videos woman are objective and ‘shown off’ for the male gaze, but
she has reversed this to males being flaunted on camera for the female gaze.

The narrative of the music video is not coherent with the lyrics of the song, but to
an extent the message of the music video is done successfully. She successfully
portrayed men as women are usually shown in music videos: sexualized and
objective. However her, herself contradicts the message she wants to get out as
she still is in a reveling outfit and flaunting herself off. But she does show she is
dominant.
In conclusion, this music video challenges Mulvey’s theory to an extent .
