International key regulations on child labor have had some positive impact by requiring governments to enact laws protecting children, however enforcement remains a challenge. Poverty is a major driver of child labor in developing nations where children work due to lack of basic needs or family income. Over 7 million children ages 5-17 are involved in child labor globally. While laws against child labor have strengthened, the reduction rate remains low at only 3% from 2004-2008.
