1. Band/ Artist Image Analysis
The image is of soul singer Amy Winehouse. In
terms of mise en scene the style of this image has
been made to look classic and timeless through the
use of a black and white effect to suggest that she is
a well-respected artist. Direct address is used in this
photo to emphasise this timeless style in the photo.
The lighting is high key and makes Amy’s face bright
and makes this the focus point. Iconography is used
because her tattoo on her right arm is clearly being
showed off, this makes the audience immediately
recognise who the photo is of because we associate

an emo, pop punk band. The image gives an overall
style that is relevant to their music genre, this is
shown through the use of low key lighting to suggest
the dark quality of their music. The lighting creates
shadows on their faces and makes their eyes hard to
see, this is an iconic look for an emo band. The pose
also makes them appear threatening and the camera
angle in taken slightly from below so that they are
looking down at it to make them appear powerful.

is an iconic look for them and is also conventional of
this music genre. The lead singer is stood further
forward than the rest of the band and the lighting is
brighter on him to show that he is the singer and the
most recognisable member of the band.
