The document then describes how the author developed imagery of death and beauty for their own album artwork, advertisements, and music video, which features a beautiful femme fatale committing violent acts, in order to target their young male audience who enjoy such themes in media.

Question 2
1. Question 2: How effective is
the combination of your main
product and ancillary texts?
By Sophia Notarianni
2. In order to properly answer
this question, we must first
look at existing examples by
real life artists and understand
how a relationship is created
between music videos and
ancillary texts and why that
relationship is important
3. Bring Me The Horizon
In their both the album artwork and
promotional material for Bring Me
The Horizon’s two most recent
albums, they created logos that
were put on posters, stickers and t
shirts which we're distributed at
music festivals and the band’s lead
singer’s clothing stores, creating
hype and iconography around the
albums. ‘Sempiternal’ featured the
Flower Of Life, a complex symbol
which was adopted as the band’s
logo for the next two years, then for
‘That’s The Spirit’ the band used
their new umbrella logo to
singlehandedly create a following
around the album.
4. Arctic Monkeys
For Arctic Monkeys’ album ‘AM’
they used a soundwave as a
logo for both the band and the
album. It was featured on
merchandise, as a background
and was used in the music
video for the first single off of
the album, ‘Do I Wanna
Know?’, where it morphed
between sound waves
mimicking the music and line
drawings of attractive female
mechanics.
5. Lana Del Rey
Lana Del Rey uses iconography
throughout her promotional
material, album covers and
music videos; incorporating
white feminine dresses, flower
crowns and hollywood starlet
hair to create an image of golden
age hollywood glamour
6. My Promotional Material
My album artwork revolves
around images of death
and beauty, with skulls and
roses taking centre stages
in both the black and white
pictures and the painting of
the girl in skeleton face
paint and a flower crown.
This theme is carried into
the advertisement which
features the girl from the
cover and the same 2 fonts
used on the album and
band logo
7. My Music Video
I continue the theme of
beauty and death into my
music video; featuring a
beautiful femme fatale
painted up like a 50s
Hollywood starlet, who is
actually a murderess,
brutally slaughtering her
boyfriend in many different
ways
8. Death and Beauty
When researching rock music videos at the start of the
project; I found that many rock videos featured the
themes of Death and Beauty
9. Death and Beauty
I replicated these themes in my video; creating a
contrast between the beautiful femme fatale and the
violent acts she commits
10. Target Audience
Considering my target
audience is mostly young
adult males; the inclusion of a
beautiful female would seem
appropriate and attractive to
them
My target audience profile also informs me that
my audience would be interested in violent and
gory content due to their favourite films and
television shows containing violence and gore.
