work in my soul, which I do not understand. This quote from Mary Shelley s classic gothic novel
Frankenstein is very representative of the functional importance of gothic literature to humanity.
Gothic literature can be viewed as the dark side of the human soul, as good usually triumphs over
evil in storytelling; gothic literature is the release of all the darkness of the human experience
usually embodied in a character. When used to describe literature, the word gothic is defined as of
or relating to a style of fiction characterized by the use of desolate or remote settings and macabre,
mysterious, or violent incidents (Webster). In addition to these stylings, there are several elements
such as the supernatural, heroes, villains, and emotions that are very common of the gothic genre
(Marinaro). Frankenstein is often viewed as the archetype of gothic literature, for the novel is

To start off, a part I did not like about the book was the part about Ove s dad. I felt as though this
complicated the plot a lot and was not necessary to the base of the book. It did not need to be
added into the book because it had no effect to my understanding of what was happening in the
book. If anything it made me more confused because it went back in time, then it came back to
the present and it was confusing what time period we were in at the moment. A good part of the
book was when Parvaneh was becoming friends with Ove because he needed to get out of his
daily routine. Ove needed someone to shake up the life he had been living for many years. I
would not recommend this book to adolescents because the book was confusing at some points
and the humor was guided towards the adults. Personally, I would read another book by Fredrik
Backman because the book was still very well written. I also could understand the book, for the
most part. To continue, this book would be better read by adults because the humor was more
guided to that age group. Also, this book is still relevant today because people do not live forever.
We have to learn to move on from the bad times just like Ove did. When a loved one dies we feel
grief, but like Ove we use the people around us to begin to feel better about what happened to us.

1900 s. Outlaws ruled the land with few worries about law enforcement. Only the bravest men
would attempt to police the west. Some of these brave men were self appointed law men, men like
Charles Lynch, a former Virginia farmer, and Wyatt Earp. These brave men were called Vigilantes
and they tracked down criminals in the west. With out them the west would have been to violent for
the expansion of the country. Schmalleger (2005).
Women began involvement with police work in 1845. They were assigned as matrons in the
New York Police Department. In 1893, the Mayor of Chicago appointed Marie Owens as the first
woman to have the title policeman . She was a widow of a Chicago police

Music has been a part of the human race for as long as it has been existing. Its various forms and
genres categorizes and divides the music country wise, ranging from initially Folk music as the
base, moving on to Country music as a regions identity. The music gained enormous name and
fame because of its hypnotizing effect on the singer and the listener. From Rock n Roll, evolving
towards British invasion, music in 1960 s played a major role in evolution of UK.This evolution
was brought up by the introduction of rock and roll, collaborating different races and changing the
lifestyle thus transforming UK from a conservative country into the capital of the world.
Before rock and roll hit the Great Britain, blues and jazz were the genres of the era. Singers from
various nations like the US or Africa, started working solo or as bands and increased the impact
of music on people slive. Before the 50 s, various controversies arose regarding the style of Jazz
and Blues, and their effect on the local residents and The British Invasion also began around 1963
with the arrival of The Beatles on the music scene and the type of rabid fandom that followed them
would change the way people would view and interact with me and musicians forever. (The People
History). Although rock and roll began influencing Britain in the 1950s, it wasn t until the early
Sixties and the emergence of British Invasion groups like The Beatles, that music truly began its
revolutionary changes
