In the geopolitical marketplace, consumer countries choose which superpower will be their patron; some choose more than one. When one superpower tries to isolate an enemy, another superpower can always swoop in with a lifeline and gain an ally.

3. Globalization Globalization is an increasingly important phenomenon which has been fueled largely by the First World and its connections with the other worlds. An example of globalization within the First World is the European Union which has brought much cooperation and integration to the region. Multinational Corporations also provide examples of the First World's impact on globalization, as they have brought economic, political and social integration in many countries. With the rise of the multinational corporation, the problem of outsourcing has risen in many First World countries. First World: the United States and its allies. Second World: the Soviet Union, China and their allies. Third World: neutral and non-aligned countries.

4. Creating New Communities -Joel Kotkin- Suburbs have a degree of political autonomy, and most have lower population density than inner city neighborhoods. Suburbs grew in the 19th and 20th century as a result of improved rail and later road transport. By 2010 suburbs increasingly gained people in racial minority groups as White Americans moved back to city centers. Many major city downtowns are experiencing a renewal, with large population growth, residential apartment construction, and increased social, cultural, and infrastructural investments. In order to accommodate the next hundred million, new communities will have to be built. This will create a massive demand for new housing, as well as industrial and commercial space.

5. Immigration Immigration to the United States has been a major source of population growth and cultural change throughout much of the history of the United Sates. The economic, social, and political aspects of immigration have caused controversy regarding ethnicity, economic benefits, jobs for non-immigrants, settlement patterns, impact on upward social mobility, crime, and voting behavior. Kotkin writes that “suburbs provide diversity and new ideas as immigrants assimilate into American society.”
