Water
 Cauvery, the largest river in Kodagu district
with its principal tributaries Hemavathi,
Lakshmana Theertha, Kakkabbe and Harangi
rivers flow in the eastern direction. Barapole
flows towards west.
 Groundwater availability in the region is
moderate.
 Focus on expanding irrigation network and
watershed management.

Power
 Transmission in the district is being done by
Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Company
Limited (CESCOM).
 In order to deal with the increasing population
and industrialization in the area, major public
investments in power generation and
transmission is being introduced.
 In the rural level, consistent effort to enhance
biogas based projects are also being made.
 It is being fed power from master receiving
station on 110 KV and 66 KV transmission lines.

Tourism
 Madikeri fort: Built by Mudduraja in the last quarter of the 17th century. It was
eventually rebuilt in granite by Tipu Sultan who named the site as Jaffarabad.
 Gaddige – Raja’s Tomb: The royal tombs on a hillock to the north of Madikeri
provide a spectacular view of the town. Lingarajendra’s tomb was built in 1820.
 Pushpagiri Hill: Pushpagiri Hills is located at an altitude of 1067 m above the
sea level in Kodagu District.
 Omkareshwara Temple: Omkareshwara temple was built by Lingarajendra in
1820. The temple has both Islamic and Gothic style of architecture.
 Abbi Falls: A beautiful natural water fall where Madikeri stream flows from a
precipice at a height of 70 ft in between huge boulders to a rocky valley.
 Talakaveri: It is the birthplace of the sacred river Kauveri and is situated on the
slopes of Brahmagiri Hills. You can climb upto 300 ft. to the summit of the
Brahmagiri peak where it is said, seven great sages meditated.
 Tadiandamol: It is the highest peak of the district and it provides for breath
taking views.
 Kauvery Nisarga Dhama: It is an island formed by the river Kaveri and is
used as a picnic spot near Kushalnagar. It is approximately 3Kms form
Kushalnagara and 30Kms form Madikeri.
 Tibetan Buddhist Golden Temple: Located at Bylakuppe near Kushalnagar
of the district, in the Tibetan refugee settlement.

  • 7. Water  Cauvery, the largest river in Kodagu district with its principal tributaries Hemavathi, Lakshmana Theertha, Kakkabbe and Harangi rivers flow in the eastern direction. Barapole flows towards west.  Groundwater availability in the region is moderate.  Focus on expanding irrigation network and watershed management.  Watershed Projects:  National Watershed development programme in Rainfed Areas (N.W.D.P.R.A.)  Sujala 2  Western Ghats Development Programme (W.D.G.P) Power  Transmission in the district is being done by Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Company Limited (CESCOM).  In order to deal with the increasing population and industrialization in the area, major public investments in power generation and transmission is being introduced.  In the rural level, consistent effort to enhance biogas based projects are also being made.  It is being fed power from master receiving station on 110 KV and 66 KV transmission lines. hydroelectric power plant is commissioned in the year 2000 at Harnagi Reservoir Power and Water Source: DIC- Kodagu
  • 8. Tourism  Madikeri fort: Built by Mudduraja in the last quarter of the 17th century. It was eventually rebuilt in granite by Tipu Sultan who named the site as Jaffarabad.  Gaddige – Raja’s Tomb: The royal tombs on a hillock to the north of Madikeri provide a spectacular view of the town. Lingarajendra’s tomb was built in 1820.  Pushpagiri Hill: Pushpagiri Hills is located at an altitude of 1067 m above the sea level in Kodagu District.  Omkareshwara Temple: Omkareshwara temple was built by Lingarajendra in 1820. The temple has both Islamic and Gothic style of architecture.  Abbi Falls: A beautiful natural water fall where Madikeri stream flows from a precipice at a height of 70 ft in between huge boulders to a rocky valley.  Talakaveri: It is the birthplace of the sacred river Kauveri and is situated on the slopes of Brahmagiri Hills. You can climb upto 300 ft. to the summit of the Brahmagiri peak where it is said, seven great sages meditated.  Tadiandamol: It is the highest peak of the district and it provides for breath taking views.  Kauvery Nisarga Dhama: It is an island formed by the river Kaveri and is used as a picnic spot near Kushalnagar. It is approximately 3Kms form Kushalnagara and 30Kms form Madikeri.  Tibetan Buddhist Golden Temple: Located at Bylakuppe near Kushalnagar of the district, in the Tibetan refugee settlement.

Agriculture & Food Processing: • District’s agro climatic condition is conducive for plantation crops. • District accounts for 10% of the total forest area in the state. • Plantation and horticulture crops account for 87% of the net sown area. • Honey processing is a potential area of investment in Kodagu Potential Industries Tourism: • Kodagu is rated as one of the top hill station destinations in India. • Presence of hotels like Vivanta by Taj, • Windflower Spa and Resorts,Heritage and Orange County creates a strong hospitality sector in the district. • Presence of various golf clubs like Coorg Golf links, Mercara Downs Golf Club, Bamboo Club,Tata Coffee Officers Golf club makes it a haven for leisure activities.
