Koala Characteristics
• They are mammals because they have hair
  and give birth to alive babies.
• They’re nocturnal. That helps them because
  it’s safer for them at night.
• Koalas are herbivores they eat leaves, bark,
  mistletoe, and there favorite food eucalyptus.
A Koalas Habitat
• Koalas live in the rainforest. It’s quite and
  calm. There are lots of trees. They live in
  Eastern Australia. There are lots of bushes,
  plants, and wild flowers.
Koalas are Endangered because…
• Koalas are endangered because of traffic deaths.
  Also because of habitat destruction and attacks
  by dogs. But most of all hunters that hunt it for
  it’s fur.
• What’s being done to protect koalas? People are
  symbolically adopting the koala to keep it alive.
  There are strict laws to protect them from
  hunters. People are going to wild life action
  centers. A wild life action center is like an animal
  protection center.

About 4,000 koalas are killed every day. Koalas
sleep up to 16 hours every day of it’s life. Koalas are
marsupials, related to kangaroos. Koalas have thick
woolly fur that protects them from both heat and
cold. A female koala is pregnant for only 35 days.
Female koalas are smaller than male koalas. Koalas
on average grow to be 2 feet tall. The koala can get
up to 30 lbs. There are fewer than 100,000 koalas in
the wild. Koalas can live up to 17 years of age.
Koalas smell like cough drops because of their diet
of eucalyptus leaves. Koalas have thick, grayish fur,
with white on their chests, inner arms, and ears.
