Larsen & Toubro (L&T) is an Indian engineering company that developed a knowledge management portal called Knowledge Online (KOL) to capture and reuse valuable project information. This would help increase customer responsiveness, reduce costs and time on projects, and provide a competitive advantage. L&T used Lotus Notes software initially and later developed an integrated knowledge management portal called KnowNet using IBM Lotus Domino. Key features of KnowNet included KOL, which provides a centralized database of lessons learned from past projects, and Sametime for online meetings, document sharing and messaging between employees.

2. Larsen & Toubro Limited (L&T) is a technology, engineering,
construction and manufacturing company. It is one of the largest and

L&T Engineering & Construction division (E&C) wanted to build a
knowledge portal (Knowledge Online – KOL) to harness its intellectual
capital and reuse valuable information.
This would help in increasing customer responsiveness, reduce time
and costs incurred in delivering projects and gain a competitive edge.
 Eight years ago the company developed a knowledge sharing exercise
on a small scale with the support of Lotus Notes software.

meetings for giving online presentations, sharing and jointly editing
online documents and send instant messages or chat.
