Homily: The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity Sunday 2024.docxJames Knipper
Countless volumes have been written trying to explain the mystery of three persons in one true God, leaving us to resort to metaphors such as the three-leaf clover to try to comprehend the Divinity. Many of us grew up with the quintessential pyramidal Trinity structure of God at the top and Son and Spirit in opposite corners. But what if we looked at this ‘mystery’ from a different perspective? What if we shifted our language of God as a being towards the concept of God as love? What if we focused more on the relationship within the Trinity versus the persons of the Trinity? What if stopped looking at God as a noun…and instead considered God as a verb? Check it out…
In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.

Prayer to St. John XXIII
Dear Pope John,
Your simplicity and meekness carried the scent of God and sparked
in people’s hearts the desire for goodness. You spoke often of the
beauty of the family gathered around the table to share bread and
faith: pray for us that once again true families would live in our
homes.
With outstretched hands you sowed hope, and you taught us to listen
for God’s footsteps as he prepares a new humanity: help us have a
healthy optimism of defeating evil with good.
You loved the world with its light and darkness, and you believed that
peace is possible: help us be instruments of peace at home and in
our communities.
With paternal gentleness you gave all children a caress: you moved

the world and reminded us that hands have been given to us not for
striking, but for embracing and drying tears.
Pray for us so that we do not limit ourselves to cursing the darkness
but that we bring the light, bringing Jesus everywhere and always
praying to Mary.
Amen.
Prayer to St. John Paul II
Oh, St. John Paul, from the window of heaven, grant us
your blessing! Bless the church that you loved and
served and guided, courageously leading it along the
paths of the world in order to bring Jesus to everyone

and everyone to Jesus. Bless the young, who were your
great passion. Help them dream again, help them look
up high again to find the light that illuminates the paths of
life here on earth.
May you bless families, bless each family! You warned
of Satan’s assault against this precious and
indispensable divine spark that God lit on earth. St. John
Paul, with your prayer, may you protect the family and
every life that blossoms from the family.
Pray for the whole world, which is still marked by
tensions, wars and injustice. You tackled war by invoking
dialogue and planting the seeds of love: pray for us so
that we may be tireless sowers of peace.
Oh St. John Paul, from heaven’s window, where we see
you next to Mary, send God’s blessing down upon us all.
Amen.

Dear Brothers in Christ,
Today is Wednesday, the last day of April, and
the opening verse in the Gospel of John today
is John 3:16. God so loved the world that he
gave his only-Son, so that everyone who
believes in him might not perish but might
have eternal life. Today we honor St. Pius V.
He was the pope that implemented the
reforms of the Council of Trent which was
held from 1545 until 1564. It was called to face

Update Your Beneficiaries
Sometimes it is easy to overlook the
the challenges of the Protestant
Reformation. St. Pius V is best known for
publishing the Roman Catechism. In 1870 the
American Bishops published the Baltimore
Catechism with the approval of the pope, St.
Pius IX. In1992, the pope, St. John Paul II
published the Cathechism of the Catholic
Church. These popes embraced the truth that
Jesus is the only Son of God and their lives
were a proclamation of this truth of our faith.
Pope Francis proclaims this same truth today,
especially, to the poor. My Brother Knights,
let us pray for the grace to follow the
examples of the saintly popes. If we do it, we
too will embrace the words of the responsorial
psalm for today's liturgy from Psalm 34. "The
Lord hears the cry of the poor, blessed be the
Lord.

simplest of things.
Take, for example, the beneficiaries on
your life insurance policies. If your policy
was applied for and issued several years
ago, it may very well be that the person
you originally selected as the beneficiary
is no longer the person you would want to
receive the policy proceeds. If you
bought the policy when you were single,
for example, you may have named your
parents as beneficiaries. If you have
since married, your policies should be
updated to reflect your spouse as
beneficiary. Maybe you’ve had children
since, who are not named on the policies.
Most people list a primary beneficiary,
who is specifically designated as the first
in priority to receive policy proceeds. We
also encourage the naming of a
contingent beneficiary, an alternate
person designated to receive policy
proceeds, usually in the event that the
original beneficiary pre-deceases the
insured.
I routinely call all of my policyholders for
annual review appointments, usually near
the anniversary date of your policy – that

is, the date it was originally issued. One
of the matters that I’ll discuss during this
review is the status of your beneficiary
designations. If they need updating, and
they often do, I can complete the
paperwork during that appointment.
I look forward to meeting with each of you
to discuss your family’s needs.

Our Principles
All the good works we do are informed by our four core principles:
Charity - Our Catholic faith teaches us to “Love thy neighbor as thyself.” Members
of the Knights of Columbus show love for their neighbors by conducting food drives
and donating the food to local soup kitchens and food pantries, by volunteering at
Special Olympics, and by supporting, both spiritually and materially, mothers who
choose life for their babies. Knights recognize that our mission, and our faith in
God, compels us to action. There is no better way to experience love and
compassion than by helping those in need, a call we answer every day.
Unity – None of us is as good as all of us. Members of the Knights of Columbus all
know that – together – we can accomplish far more than any of us could
individually. So we stick together…we support one another. That doesn’t mean that
17. pdfcrowd.comopen in browser PRO version Are you a developer? Try out the HTML to PDF API
individually. So we stick together…we support one another. That doesn’t mean that
we always agree or that there is never a difference of opinion. It does mean that –
as a Knight of Columbus – you can count on the support and encouragement of
your brother Knights as you work to make life better in your parish and community.
Fraternity – The Venerable Michael J. McGivney founded the Knights of Columbus,
in large part, to provide assistance to the widows and children left behind when the
family breadwinner died – often prematurely. The Order’s top-rated insurance
program continues to do this today, as do individual Knights, who last year gave
more than 10 million hours of their time to assist sick and/or disabled members and
their families. In the Knights of Columbus, we watch out for and take care of one
another.
Patriotism – Members of the Knights of Columbus, be they Americans, Canadians,
Mexicans, Cubans, Filipinos, Poles, or Dominicans, are patriotic citizens. We are
proud of our devotion to God and country, and believe in standing up for both.
Whether it’s in public or private, the Knights remind the world that Catholics support
their nations and are amongst the greatest citizens.

A few hours after John Paul II was declared a saint by Pope
Francis in Rome on April 27, 2014, the U.S. shrine dedicated to
his life and legacy that is sponsored by the Knights of Columbus
was officially renamed in Washington, D.C. During a ceremony
near the shrine’s entrance, a sign was unveiled with the facility’s
new name – Saint John Paul II National Shrine.
