For the past six years, our firm has been a lead sponsor of the
Corporate Counsel Women of Color (CCWC) annual conference.

In 2011, a new Firmwide Director of Diversity and Inclusion
was appointed and charged with tasks that are global in scope
and focus.
Minority, women, disabled, and LGBT lawyers continue to become
increasingly engaged at KL Gates by taking on leadership roles
that include service on the Management Committee, Executive
Committee, and Practice Group Coordinators.
Our firm is a member of the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity
(LCLD), an organization of corporate chief legal officers and
law firm managing partners dedicated to increasing diversity
throughout the legal profession. Pete Kalis is also a member of
its board of directors and serves as vice-chair of its Strategy and
Innovation Committee.
Our firm’s Women in the Profession Committee is a leader
in the profession with a mission to identify and promote
ways to develop our women lawyers’ advancement of

KL Gates was awarded the Women In Law Empowerment Forum
(WILEF) Gold Standard Certification in 2011, 2012, and 2013.
WILEF Certification emphasizes leadership roles achieved by
women partners, and firms are eligible for certification if they
successfully demonstrate that women represent a meaningful
percentage of the firm’s equity partners, highest leadership
positions, governance and compensation committees, and most
highly compensated partners.
The Human Rights Campaign awarded KL Gates a 100 percent
score in the organization’s 2012 Corporate Equality Index (CEI), and
named the firm a “Best Place to Work for LGBT Equality.” This
marks the second year in a row that the firm has achieved this honor.
KL Gates has a firmwide Pro Bono Committee, which oversees
the firm’s pro bono programs in collaboration with Pro Bono
Coordinators who direct the efforts in each of our 48 offices.
Our firm handles hundreds of pro bono matters each year. Firm
lawyers litigate civil rights cases, establish and advise nonprofit
organizations, assist such organizations in transactions, and
represent indigent persons in consumer, landlord-tenant, and
immigration matters.
