- Fibromyalgia affects 3 to 6 million Americans, with 80-90% being women who are usually diagnosed in middle age.
- It is characterized by widespread pain in the muscles and soft tissues. Common symptoms include fatigue, sleep issues, headaches, and tender points in various areas of the body.
- While drugs can help manage symptoms, natural therapies like exercise, stress reduction, and nutrition have shown more long-term promise for fibromyalgia sufferers. Regular exercise in particular can help reduce pain and fatigue and improve overall health.
Have you ever had one of those extreme headaches that ruthlessly affect your quality of work? If you are suffering from chronic widespread pain and sharp painful response to pressure, known as allodynia in medical terms, then you might be experiencing Fibromyalgia.
Fibromyalgia is a disease, which is difficult to diagnose. These slides include ACR criteria 1990 and 2010 with Wide spread pain index(WPI) and Symptom severity score(SSS)

Fibromyalgia syndrome is a common and chronic disorder characterized
by widespread pain, diffuse tenderness, and a number of other symptoms.
The word “fibromyalgia” comes from the Latin term for fibrous tissue (fibro) and the Greek ones for muscle (myo) and pain (algia).
Although fibromyalgia is often considered an arthritis-related
condition, it is not truly a form of arthritis (a disease of the joints)
because it does not cause inflammation or damage to the joints,
muscles, or other tissues. Like arthritis, however, fibromyalgia can
cause significant pain and fatigue, and it can interfere with a person’s
ability to carry on daily activities. Also like arthritis, fibromyalgia
is considered a rheumatic condition, a medical condition that impairs
the joints and/or soft tissues and causes chronic pain.
In addition to pain and fatigue, people who have fibromyalgia may experience a variety of other symptoms including:
-- cognitive and memory problems (sometimes referred to as “fibro fog”)
-- sleep disturbances
-- morning stiffness
-- headaches
-- irritable bowel syndrome
-- painful menstrual periods
-- numbness or tingling of the extremities
-- restless legs syndrome
-- temperature sensitivity
-- sensitivity to loud noises or bright lights.
Fibromyalgia is a syndrome rather than a disease. A syndrome is a
collection of signs, symptoms, and medical problems that tend to occur
together but are not related to a specific, identifiable cause. A
disease, on the other hand, has a specific cause or causes and
recognizable signs and symptoms.
A person may have two or more coexisting chronic pain conditions.
Such conditions can include chronic fatigue syndrome, endometriosis,
fibromyalgia, inflammatory bowel disease, interstitial cystitis,
temporomandibular joint dysfunction, and vulvodynia. It is not known
whether these disorders share a common cause.

Natural Treatments for Fibromyalgia, Diabetes, Lupus, Cancer, Multiple Sclero...Douglas Holt
Real Fibromyalgia, Treatment & Emotions
A Pituitary Endocrinology Perspective. Effective natural therapies for Fibromyalgia
Hot flashes, memory loss, and a weird polyneuropathy, polymyalgia or polyarthropathy (i.e. adds up to fibromyalgia)?
What is fibromyalgia? The great magical mystery illness! Pituitary endocrinology research.
Fibromyalgia really is…• Simply pituitary damage. • Causing a lack of several key hormones.
Few pituitary endocrinologists out there. Out of 150 endocrinologists there will be 1 true Pituitary Endocrinologist.
Fibromyalgic syndromes: could growth hormone therapy be beneficial?
Diabetes, Lupus, Cancer, multiple sclerosis, gout, rheumatoid arthritis, arthritis, lymphoma, glucose, osteoarthritis, type 2 diabetes, fatigue, chronic fatigue syndrome, dizziness, autoimmune disease, adrenal fatigue, polymyalgia rheumatica, depression, why am I so tires
Actual Causes of Fibromyalgia?
The pituitary secretes hormones that are essential to growth and reproduction. Hormones and vasculature.
Problems that can cause stalk or pituitary damage:
• Whiplash or any MVA
• TBI – even mild (Australian Rules Football would qualify)
• Air Bag Deployment to face or head
• Any Mild to Moderate Blows To The Head – heading a soccer ball! Any concussion!
• Sexual abuse as a child
• Stroke
• Tumors – if you can’t find anything else!
• Sheehan’s Syndrome
• Snorting or huffing drugs (i.e. cocaine)
• Radiation exposure (i.e. MD/DO/DC/DDS)
• Prolonged High Stress (i.e. MD/DO/DC/DDS)
Pituitary Dysfunction = Fibromyalgia = Maybe Even Multiple Sclerosis (MS)
Fibromyalgia Really Occurs from a Lack of Healing Hormones
Occurrence of pituitary dysfunction following traumatic brain injury. “subjects with a history of TBI frequently develop pituitary dysfunction, especially GHD.” (GHD=Growth Hormone Deficiency)
Lack of Testosterone is a problem, too.
Sage (Salvia officinalis), fennel (Foeniculum vulgare), lavender (Lavandula angustifolia), myrtle (Myrtus communis), peppermint (Mentha piperita), and blue yarrow (Achillea millefolium), in a base of sesame seed oil.
Symptoms of Inadequate Progesterone Production?
• Hot Flashes
• Day and Night Sweats
• Migraine Headaches
• Severe PMS
• Endometriosis
• Demyelination Problems
• TMJ Problems (not usually the only cause)
• Libido Problems
For diagnoses related to hypothyroidism, typical problems include fatigue, weight gain, depression, lethargy, dry skin, cold intolerance, voice change, change in menses, muscle cramps, or treatment of a thyroid condition.
Here’s the emotional tie in
• Depression, lethargy, fatigue.
• Lack of HGH causes PTSD, depression, fatigue, confusion.
• Low testosterone causes decreased libido, fatigue, depression.
• Lack of progesterone causes depression, fatigue, PMS.
“Progesterone prevents menstrual migraine headaches in women.”
Lack of Thyroid Causes Hair Loss
This ebook is packed with detailed information about the most effective means of treating Fibromyalgia. Experts and Researchers agree that a "Patient Directed" Fibromyalgia management program is the best treatment approach. While dozens of proven effective treatment options are discussed at length, the focus of this book is on the process of putting systems to use in researching, planning, implementing and managing the development of an individualized Fibromyalgia treatment program. Through the key concept of "Intelligent" Trial and Error - this ebook will teach you a more effective means of managing your Fibromyalgia on a daily basis.
Fibromyalgia and its management by cupping therapynium
Cupping therapy is especially beneficial for people suffering from fibromyalgia. If you have fibromyalgia, you know how tender your muscles and joints are. Even a vigorous massage can send your body into spasm. Cupping, however, is a non-irritating type of treatment. It will not exacerbate your muscle pain in anyway, or compound any of your fibromyalgia symptoms...

Lung Cancer: Artificial Intelligence, Synergetics, Complex System Analysis, S...Oleg Kshivets
RESULTS: Overall life span (LS) was 2252.1±1742.5 days and cumulative 5-year survival (5YS) reached 73.2%, 10 years – 64.8%, 20 years – 42.5%. 513 LCP lived more than 5 years (LS=3124.6±1525.6 days), 148 LCP – more than 10 years (LS=5054.4±1504.1 days).199 LCP died because of LC (LS=562.7±374.5 days). 5YS of LCP after bi/lobectomies was significantly superior in comparison with LCP after pneumonectomies (78.1% vs.63.7%, P=0.00001 by log-rank test). AT significantly improved 5YS (66.3% vs. 34.8%) (P=0.00000 by log-rank test) only for LCP with N1-2. Cox modeling displayed that 5YS of LCP significantly depended on: phase transition (PT) early-invasive LC in terms of synergetics, PT N0—N12, cell ratio factors (ratio between cancer cells- CC and blood cells subpopulations), G1-3, histology, glucose, AT, blood cell circuit, prothrombin index, heparin tolerance, recalcification time (P=0.000-0.038). Neural networks, genetic algorithm selection and bootstrap simulation revealed relationships between 5YS and PT early-invasive LC (rank=1), PT N0—N12 (rank=2), thrombocytes/CC (3), erythrocytes/CC (4), eosinophils/CC (5), healthy cells/CC (6), lymphocytes/CC (7), segmented neutrophils/CC (8), stick neutrophils/CC (9), monocytes/CC (10); leucocytes/CC (11). Correct prediction of 5YS was 100% by neural networks computing (area under ROC curve=1.0; error=0.0).
CONCLUSIONS: 5YS of LCP after radical procedures significantly depended on: 1) PT early-invasive cancer; 2) PT N0--N12; 3) cell ratio factors; 4) blood cell circuit; 5) biochemical factors; 6) hemostasis system; 7) AT; 8) LC characteristics; 9) LC cell dynamics; 10) surgery type: lobectomy/pneumonectomy; 11) anthropometric data. Optimal diagnosis and treatment strategies for LC are: 1) screening and early detection of LC; 2) availability of experienced thoracic surgeons because of complexity of radical procedures; 3) aggressive en block surgery and adequate lymph node dissection for completeness; 4) precise prediction; 5) adjuvant chemoimmunoradiotherapy for LCP with unfavorable prognosis.

Describe the pathway and mechanisms of olfactory signal transmission from the olfactory receptors to the brain.
Illustrate the biochemical cascade triggered by odorant binding to olfactory receptors, including the role of G-proteins and second messengers in generating an action potential.
Identify different types of olfactory disorders such as anosmia, hyposmia, hyperosmia, and dysosmia, including their potential causes.
Key Topics:
Olfactory Genes:
3% of the human genome accounts for olfactory genes.
400 genes for odorant receptors.
Olfactory Membrane:
Located in the superior part of the nasal cavity.
Medially: Folds downward along the superior septum.
Laterally: Folds over the superior turbinate and upper surface of the middle turbinate.

New Directions in Targeted Therapeutic Approaches for Older Adults With Mantl...i3 Health
i3 Health is pleased to make the speaker slides from this activity available for use as a non-accredited self-study or teaching resource.
This slide deck presented by Dr. Kami Maddocks, Professor-Clinical in the Division of Hematology and
Associate Division Director for Ambulatory Operations
The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center, will provide insight into new directions in targeted therapeutic approaches for older adults with mantle cell lymphoma.
STATEMENT OF NEED
Mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) is a rare, aggressive B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) accounting for 5% to 7% of all lymphomas. Its prognosis ranges from indolent disease that does not require treatment for years to very aggressive disease, which is associated with poor survival (Silkenstedt et al, 2021). Typically, MCL is diagnosed at advanced stage and in older patients who cannot tolerate intensive therapy (NCCN, 2022). Although recent advances have slightly increased remission rates, recurrence and relapse remain very common, leading to a median overall survival between 3 and 6 years (LLS, 2021). Though there are several effective options, progress is still needed towards establishing an accepted frontline approach for MCL (Castellino et al, 2022). Treatment selection and management of MCL are complicated by the heterogeneity of prognosis, advanced age and comorbidities of patients, and lack of an established standard approach for treatment, making it vital that clinicians be familiar with the latest research and advances in this area. In this activity chaired by Michael Wang, MD, Professor in the Department of Lymphoma & Myeloma at MD Anderson Cancer Center, expert faculty will discuss prognostic factors informing treatment, the promising results of recent trials in new therapeutic approaches, and the implications of treatment resistance in therapeutic selection for MCL.
Target Audience
Hematology/oncology fellows, attending faculty, and other health care professionals involved in the treatment of patients with mantle cell lymphoma (MCL).
Learning Objectives
1.) Identify clinical and biological prognostic factors that can guide treatment decision making for older adults with MCL
2.) Evaluate emerging data on targeted therapeutic approaches for treatment-naive and relapsed/refractory MCL and their applicability to older adults
3.) Assess mechanisms of resistance to targeted therapies for MCL and their implications for treatment selection
Ethanol (CH3CH2OH), or beverage alcohol, is a two-carbon alcohol
that is rapidly distributed in the body and brain. Ethanol alters many
neurochemical systems and has rewarding and addictive properties. It
is the oldest recreational drug and likely contributes to more morbidity,
mortality, and public health costs than all illicit drugs combined. The
5th edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders
(DSM-5) integrates alcohol abuse and alcohol dependence into a single
disorder called alcohol use disorder (AUD), with mild, moderate,
and severe subclassifications (American Psychiatric Association, 2013).
In the DSM-5, all types of substance abuse and dependence have been
combined into a single substance use disorder (SUD) on a continuum
from mild to severe. A diagnosis of AUD requires that at least two of
the 11 DSM-5 behaviors be present within a 12-month period (mild
AUD: 2–3 criteria; moderate AUD: 4–5 criteria; severe AUD: 6–11 criteria).
The four main behavioral effects of AUD are impaired control over
drinking, negative social consequences, risky use, and altered physiological
effects (tolerance, withdrawal). This chapter presents an overview
of the prevalence and harmful consequences of AUD in the U.S.,
the systemic nature of the disease, neurocircuitry and stages of AUD,
comorbidities, fetal alcohol spectrum disorders, genetic risk factors, and
pharmacotherapies for AUD.

2.
3. Fibromyalgia is a complicated condition. Many physicians who are not familiar with this disorder feel there are no clear-cut answers. However, people need effective relief, support and guidance.
4. FIBRO: from fiber or fibrous – tissues. MY: from myo – meaning muscle. ALGOS: from algia – meaning pain. IA: meaning state of, or condition. Here is how the word “Fibromyalgia” breaks down:
5. Fibromyalgia simply means a condition which is characterized by pain in the muscles and soft tissue fibers of the body.
6. • It is the third most prevalent rheumatologic disorder (after osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis). • It represents 5% of family practice office visits and 20% of rheumatism visits. Incidence of Fibromyalgia:
7. • Approximately 90% of Fibromyalgia patients are women between the ages of 40 and 60 years with an average age of 49. • Of the 10 to 20% of cases that affect males, the presentation (of symptoms and care of) is no different than that for women. Incidence of Fibromyalgia: Source: Cox, James, M., Low Back Pain: Mechanism, Diagnosis and Treatment , Chapter 7, pg. 251

14. So you can see if the types of symptoms you have are related to Fibromyalgia, please fill out this survey with me now:
15. If you do, let me tell you what it means. If you have more than one symptom, or the one symptom you have occurs more than once per week, you have a situation you should be concerned about. It’s never normal to have a symptom. A symptom is your body’s way of communicating to you that something is not right and needs to be checked. Do you have more than one symptom?
16. Would you check your car if the engine light went on? Symptoms are a warning that something is wrong. There is no such thing as a normal symptom. You would check your car to make sure it did not get worse. Your body deserves the same attention.
17. Today you have two choices regarding your health. You can do the same things you’re currently doing, and get the same results, or you can try something new and do something different and get a different result. The Choice is Yours.
18. If I could show you today how to get rid of your problems by doing something natural and affordable, would you do it? Raise your hand if you would.

21. Source: Modified from Wolfe, F., et al, by the American College of Rheumatology. People with Fibromyalgia will also have tender points at these locations on their body.
22. If you experience tenderness in any number of these locations, it may indicate that you are suffering from Fibromyalgia. Only by being examined by a trained physician, can the diagnosis be properly made.
23. The following trigger points of Fibromyalgia appear in this diagram in order of frequency. Source: Sabley, B.J., Malic Acid and Magnesium for Fibromyalgia and Chronic Pain Syndrome , 1999, p. 16.
24. A Chiropractor, because he or she works with their hands, can recognize and detect these tender points.
25. 1. A drug-free approach: natural therapies that support the body’s innate ability to heal itself, or 2. 26. Elavil ® , Endep ® , and Flexeril ® are widely used at night to modulate sleep disturbance. However, it appears that in long-term therapy the benefits may be lost and the side effects are often daunting. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as Motrin ® , Aleve ® , Advil ® , including generic ibuprofen, and acetaminophen, etc., are often not sufficient to relieve the aching and discomfort. Drugs only mask the symptoms.

30. • Trauma or stress The causes of Fibromyalgia include: • Irritated nerves • Lack of exercise • Nutritional deficiencies, or • Toxicity
31. A multifaceted healthcare treatment plan including exercise therapy, stress reduction, nutrition and Chiropractic care, has shown the most promise for Fibromyalgia sufferers. Source: Cox, James, M., Low Back Pain: Mechanism, Diagnosis and Treatment , Chapter 7, pg. 251
32. Let’s take a look at the following natural approaches, which have proven to be effective in handling the problem of Fibromyalgia.
33. Research has indicated that more than 80% of patients with Fibromyalgia are not physically fit. Source: Goldman, J.A., “Hypermobility and Deconditioning: Important Links to Fibromyalgia/Fibrositis,” South Med J 1991; 84: 192-1196 1. Exercise
34. Although it is understandable that Fibromyalgia patients do not want to exercise because of fatigue and pain, if they do so, the prognosis is greatly improved.
35.
36. A recent study followed 40,000 post-menopausal women for seven years. Those who regularly engaged in moderate activities had a 41% longer lifespan than those who did not exercise. Source: Journal of the American Medical Association, as featured in Consumer Reports on Health , April 1998.
37. A seven-year study by the University of Minnesota involving 12,000 men found that those who walked or did similar exercise for an average of just 20 minutes a day were 37% less likely to die of coronary disease than those who exercised less than that. Source: Journal of the American Medical Association, as featured in Consumer Reports on Health , April 1998.
38.
39. Many Fibromyalgia patients remember a specific triggering event associated with an abrupt onset of the symptoms of Fibromyalgia. 2. Stress Reduction
40. These events often include physical stress, such as an illness or a virus; or emotional stress, such as marital difficulties, loneliness, job dissatisfaction, boredom, lack of purpose in life, etc.
41. Stress is destructive to the body due to the over release of hormones from the adrenal glands. The adrenal hormone cortisol acts like cortisone and reduces inflammation. When under prolonged stress, one’s immune system becomes weakened and this, along with cortisol imbalances, can contribute to the symptoms of Fibromyalgia.
