2. Currently pursuing a double major in Broadcast Communications and
Journalism at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, Claire Canon has
already amassed a substantial history of volunteerism and social
involvement. Before going away to college, Ms. Canon served as a
longstanding member of her hometown Key Club.
3. A youth organization sponsored by Kiwanis Club International, Key Club
International is dedicated to providing valuable community service while
emphasizing its core values of leadership, character building, caring, and
inclusiveness. The organization was founded in 1925 to initiate a
preliminary junior service club within a single Sacramento, California,
high school. From this modest beginning with only 11 charter members,
Key Club has grown to include more than 250,000 youth members in 30
countries.
4. Key Club members assist the Kiwanis organization in its overarching
mission to help children everywhere. Acts of service commonly
performed by the Key Club include cleaning up public parks and
organizing charitable clothing and food drives. Every year, Key Club
International partners with its sister nonprofits the March of Dimes,
Children’s Miracle Network, and UNICEF to further the efforts of Major
Emphasis, a collaborative project with a mission to serve the needs of
children on an global scale.
